Action for genomic integrity
cigarettes, hair dye ingredients, UV light, all affect health in part due to effects on genomic integrity, our molecular heritage, so to speak. Our cells need saving and future generations need protection too. see more in the site!

Introducing AGiR: Action for Genomic integrity through Research
1.
2. Some definitions:
Genome: the total genetic content
of an organism
Genomes have integrity when all their genes
function correctly!
Mutations are permanent changes in the genome.
Research: systematic investigation to improve understanding.
5. Genomic integrity
Each of us carries a ‘patchwork’ of many mutations in our DNA!
Some give us our father’s eyes or our grandmother’s smile.
As long as the cells function correctly, all is ok!
When something goes wrong, a possible cause is the loss of
genomic integrity (i.e. copy number variations, deletions, mutations)
Damage to nucleic acids, RNA included, can have grave consequences.
Repair is crucial, but in many cases, such repair is quite error-prone,
potentially leading to the generation of new mutations.
6. Genomic integrity
The protection of genomic integrity
is therefore more readily facilitated
by preventing pollution of the
environment by genotoxic
substances.

Information
To provide information and
promote research
11. Aims of AGiR
To spread information &
pursue targeted research!
12. Aims of AGiR (2 years)
To spread information &
To increase by 30% public awareness of genomic integrity and risks for it.
pursue targeted research!
To identify quantitative and reliable measures of genomic integrity, robust enough
to start a clinical study.
