What are the basic subjects of learning
• Language
• Numbers
• The why and how of things or phenomena
• Facts
What are the other aspects learned?
• Behavior, style----soft, angry, amiable, caring, joyous,
scolding and the dress sense, the mobility, smile,
• Interpersonal relationship----how students interact with
each other and interact with teachers, how teachers
interact with each other
• Deductive/inductive logic----if blocks can be stacked why
not matchboxes; if my papa comes home for lunch then all
papas must be coming home for lunch
• Intrapersonal behavior----knowing about self
How do children learn?
• Listen
• See/observe
• Do/imitate/apply
They may use each individually or in twos or together
• Cognitive—knowledge or think
• Affective---Attitude/feel
• Psychomotor—kinesthetic (skills)—do
The Role of teacher in the context of these impacts
• Once you have accepted to be a teacher, you cannot look at
it as a job
• What you have is children who are like clay and look up to
you to be molded and shaped
• A teacher who can answer all questions and is perfect to be
emulated
What is it that they do with the learning?
• Express
• Discover
• Deduce/ derive—logic
• Apply
CHILDREN LEARN SEVERAL TIMES MORE THAN WE TEACH
What are the long term impact that you create?
How children use language later in their life?
• Explain, present, negotiate, write, express complex
phenomena, articulate ideas, ask, …..
How do children use their mind to discover, derive and
deduce things?
• Relate one phenomena to another, apply one logic to
another,
How children feel about themselves as persons?
• I can do this, I am like this, I look like this,
So what do they expect of us teachers?
• Innovative ways of learning—Make things easy/interesting
to learn
• Encourage them/Love them
• Tell them stories/Entertain them/Play with them
• Give them as much visual and ‘do’ exercises as much as
possible
What could be your most important contribution
• All research on Education points to one element which
facilitates learning:
LANGUAGE
• Mother Tongue or English or whichever is the medium

  • 5. The Role of teacher in the context of these impacts • Once you have accepted to be a teacher, you cannot look at it as a job • What you have is children who are like clay and look up to you to be molded and shaped • A teacher who can answer all questions and is perfect to be emulated
  • 6. What is it that they do with the learning? • Express • Discover • Deduce/ derive—logic • Apply CHILDREN LEARN SEVERAL TIMES MORE THAN WE TEACH
  • 7. What are the long term impact that you create? How children use language later in their life? • Explain, present, negotiate, write, express complex phenomena, articulate ideas, ask, ….. How do children use their mind to discover, derive and deduce things? • Relate one phenomena to another, apply one logic to another, How children feel about themselves as persons? • I can do this, I am like this, I look like this,
  • 8. So what do they expect of us teachers? • Innovative ways of learning—Make things easy/interesting to learn • Encourage them/Love them • Tell them stories/Entertain them/Play with them • Give them as much visual and ‘do’ exercises as much as possible
  • 9. What could be your most important contribution • All research on Education points to one element which facilitates learning: LANGUAGE • Mother Tongue or English or whichever is the medium
