Subject: FW: Rumble strips
Chuck, I would like to remove the rumble strips from the job site. We have not had to use them yet. Leahy has
been managing the course rock entries well to maintain excellent jobsite containment of sediment and tracking
has been almost nonexistent. It is a tight jobsite and getting more restricted all of the time. The rumble strips
are large cumbersome and the potential of slicing a tire if not hit straight on is quite high. I will continue to keep
a close leash on traffic activity. Are you ok with this plan?

2. WestPodiumTrafficBarricade Alternative
WhenI assignedtothe WestPodiumthe planat AlmaGardenswas to use plasticbarricades aroundthe
buildingon3 sidesaspart of the trafficcontrol measuresatconsiderable expensetoHCIin the
neighborhoodof $30k. I reviewedthe existingplananddevisedanalternate planandproposeditto
Tony Piscitellowhowasveryreceptive tothe change. Please readthe copiedemail below tosee howI
managedthissituation.
Todd,
Let’sstart with: 130LF of concrete barriersfor4-months(Oct.2014 to Feb.2015) @
$20.65/LF x 4-mos/18-mos= $597 (rented,placed&removedbyLeahy)
160 LF of concrete barriersfor18-months(Oct.2014 to April 2016) @
$20.65/LF = $3,304 (rented,placed&removedbyLeahy)
276LF of plasticbarriersfor18-months (Oct.2014 to April
2016) @$57.50/LF = $15,870 (purchasedandownedbyHCI)
Total Initial Barrier Order $19,771
If necessary,we will finetune the final quantitiesinthe field.
Thanks,
Tony

Tony,by limitingthe plasticsectionstoonlythe parkingsectionatthe AlmaGardens(plus18’ westand
18’ East for turnradius) the numberof LF plasticbarricade purchasedisreducedto276’ total. That is
46 plasticbarricades 6’ long$350 each whichwill cost$16,100. That leaves320 LF of concrete barriers
for the remainderwhichwillbe 10’sections$206.50 each for18 monthsfora total of $6,608. The
combinedtotal is$22,708 whichwill save close to$10,000. In additionitispossible thatmore costcan
be reducedbyreturningsome of the barricadesearly. Once the curbs are placedonthe looproad about
15 concrete barrierswill nolongerbe needed. The plasticbarricades willarrive justintime if ordered
now,I recommendthatLeahybe directedtoproceedwiththe revisedquantities.

HCI has receivedthe plasticbarricades (theyare currentlynotarentable item) purchasedthroughKen
LeahyConstructionInc.and theyare in use at thistime. The concrete barrierportionof cost proposal
has beensetupand isreadyto be usedbuthas not beenstartedyetbecause Iam managing
the plasticbarricades insuch a waythat the needforthe concrete barricadeshasnot beenneeded. We
are currentlywell underhalf the original estimatedcostsfor barricades andI furtherintendtolimitthe
use of the rentable barricades tothe bare minimumtoeliminate evenmore costs.
3. WestPodiumWestEntry Plan
WhenI was assignedtoWestPodiumthere wasdirectiontoremove about120LF of existing9’sidewalk
(inlike newcondition) tothe northof the projectby the swale androck it to create a construction
entrance. Thissectionof sidewalkwouldhave beenanextracostnot includedinthe contract. This
removal wouldhave broughtconstructionactivitiesclosertoNECherryDrive therebyincreasingthe risk
of contaminantexposure atthe Citystreet.(AlmaGardenLoopisa private road anyminoramountof
sand andgrit not bumpedoff atthe rock entrance usuallytracksoff before CherryDrive.) Todate the
sidewalkhasnotbeenremoved, the constructionentrance wasbuiltatthe endof the fire access
road. It ismy intenttosave the demo, rocking, removal andsidewalkreplacementcostsandreplace
only2 panelsthathadlightpostsinthem. This ispotentiallya$10-15k costsavingsto the projectas
well asa savingtime onthe schedule.
These are some of the examplesof howIhave beenstrivingtomake thisasuccessful project,Ihave
workedhardat it, and will continuetobe a diligenttothatend.
