organization. You want grant money to 
keep it going and to grow its programs.  

You want to help a lot of people in your 
community for a long, long time.

But first, you need to make sure your 
organization will appeal to funding 
organizations…

Then, write
descriptions of
the programs
you offer to
your clients
in your
community.


Contact an
attorney to file
for your IRS
501C(3)
status.


While you do all of this, you 
need a Board of Directors.  

Your Board will help you raise 
funds from their network and 
from your community.  



To appeal to funding organizations, it’s 
important to have 8 to 10 Board 
Members. Why? 

The more Board Members, the more 
solid your organization will become. 

Think of your

owner.

organization.

Their mission is to grow you 
into an effective manager or 
director of your organization.

Also, start attending the monthly luncheon meetings of 
AFPOC, the Association of Fundraising Professionals Orange 
County chapter. It’s a great networking opportunity, and you’ll 
learn much from the speakers for only $45 plus great food!
