Synthetic fabrics like polyester and acrylic became popular as they were easy to
care for and more affordable to produce. Some designers further created
dresses made from plastic( vinyl or pvc) that could simply be wiped clean
and disposable paper dresses, but these did not take off as much,
because of their ability to tear . It became popular during the 1960s due
to movies like Baby Doll.

In 1964, French designer André Courrèges introduced the "space look", with trouser suits,
white boots, goggles, and box-shaped dresses whose skirts soared three inches above the
knee. These were mainly designed in fluorescent colours and shiny fabrics such as PVC and
sequins.

Seamless pantyhose were introduced in the 1960s. Before pantyhose, women wore girdles
and suspender belts to keep their nylon stockings from falling down. During the 60s, it was
not proper to show bare legs and it was not fashionable to see the tops of stockings when
wearing mini skirts. Pantyhose were the perfect fashion alternative to stockings.
Additionally, in the late 1960s tights became just as popular. Usually seen in solids, patterns
or with glitter, tights were the perfect complement to a dress or mini skirt.

Rock bands such as The Who, The Small Faces, and The Kinks emerged from the Mod
subculture.
• The Mods were known for the Modern Jazz .
• The Mods dress style was often called the City Gent look. Shirts were slim, with a

comfortable. Seen in tie-dyes, free-flowing skirts and beads, the hippies' psychedelic style was
as unique as their personalities. They often wore flowers in their hair and painted their face or
bodies with peace symbols or other meaningful designs. The late 60s brought a whole new set
of trends. Most were modeled after the hippie movement and were casual and relaxed. Women
