2. What is center and periphery?
The periphery in
postcolonial literature
refers to those that are on the margins of society.
The centre in
postcolonial literature ca
n be taken to represent
those groups in society who
have power and discursive
tools.
3. Center and periphery into
post colonial discourse
Center and Periphery are probably two most
contested terms in postcolonial studies, as they
represent the biaristic geography of colonialism
but at the same, if used uncritically, also tend to
normalize this view of colonialism in which the
European powers constitute the center while the
colonies are seen as the periphery or as the
margins.
4. What does this stand for?
The main functional elements of
the world system model depend
on the integration of constant
accumulation of capital and class
societies with a spatial approach,
which classifies states according
to their position in the division of
labor.
5. Three fold
hierarchies
The structurally developed
centers where the most
productive and profitable
economic activities may be
found, income levels are high
and social ability is norm
Peripheries, conversely, at the
bottom of the scale in terms of
productivity, profit and
wealth;
between them, there are semi-
peripheral areas, which are
some times closer to centers
and other times more akin to
peripheries.
How to situate center and periphery?

"Hindi cinema is
unrealistic and it is a
mistake for people to
view it as representing
India. It is Indian only
in imagination and
aspiration," said
