Strategies to Deal with Culture Shock • Anticipate it - do not let it take you by surprise. • Find out as much as you can about where you are going before you leave. • Identify familiar things you can do to keep you busy and active. • Manage stress, do not deny your symptoms and do not give in to them. • Monitor your drinking and eating habits. • Give yourself time to adapt. Making mistakes is a normal part of learning. • Discuss your experiences with your colleagues. • Expect the same symptoms when you come home. • Think about the positive aspects of culture shock. • Retain a sense of humour
