5. The business case 1. BP – In July 2011 BP announced a £3bn investment in re-developing 2 North Sea oil fields but cannot find employees with appropriate STEM skills. 2. CBI – August 2011 – Over 40% of companies say they are having difficulty recruiting people with STEM skills.

6. CBI Katja Hall, CBI Chief Policy Director: “ The UK’s economic recovery will rely on businesses being able to access the talent they need to deliver sustainable growth. As the economy rebalances, we will need more highly-skilled employees, particularly for young people with STEM degrees, but businesses are struggling to recruit good graduates from the UK.”
