Part 1: This week, you’re exploring your communication skills.
Think of a time when effective or ineffective communication
affected your success at home, school, or work.
In paragraph 1, describe what happened, in detail.
In paragraph 2, explain how strong communication contributed
to or could have improved the situation’s outcome. Be specific.
Remember to answer each part of the question in 2 paragraphs.
Each paragraph should be 5-7 sentences with limited
grammatical errors (total 10-14 sentences). Also, respond to at
least 1 of your peers (at least 1-2 sentences).

Hello Class, A time when communication affected me was while
I was at work. My team and i were told we had to stack boxes of
product on a pallet but was not told it had to be a certain way.
There was a certain pattern the boxes were supposed to be
stacked. We were not informed of this mistake until we were
completely done. We had to completely restack the boxes. This
was the result of ineffective communication. If the
communication was stronger then we would have known the
correct way to stack the boxes. Having a diagram of the pattern
would have helped a lot and we would have wasted time by
redoing the pallet of product.

Week 6 Discussion Question
Part 1: Your Sales Pitch
Top of Form
From football teams to Fortune 500 companies, recruiting
superior talent is essential to fueling a team’s successful
growth, as you see from Coach’s story of getting John Riggins
to rejoin the Redskins. However, convincing someone to join
your team can be a tricky business.
This week we look at ways to effectively recruit … with key
insights that’ll help you convince someone that they need to
join your team!
Imagine you’re preparing to recruit someone to be part of your
team. Name three things you would try to do or use in your
sales pitch to close the deal. Why do YOU think those things
would help you land your recruit?

Hello Professor and classmates. In this week's discussion we
will discuss the best ways to build a quality team. The best way
for me to really connect with this question is relating it to an
actual situation I have already been in. When creating a team
for a our critical care unit at work I worked closely with our
owner to pool together a large list of what we thought were
quality candidates for each position available. Then, we started
with brief phone interviews to get a little better feel of those
candidates weeding the numbers down to live interview
candidates from there. This allows for us to ask a couple of key
questions to see a little more of the personal side of each
candidate to see if they possess any of the values you are
looking for. Many of our candidates came from recruitment sites
and current employer referrals so we were pretty sure we had a
pretty good starting point. Next, during interviews we started
with letting the applicant discuss a little bit about themselves.
Then we inform them of exactly why this team is being created
and what team members will be expected to do. It takes a very
special person both skilled as well as being compassionate and
dedicated to be successful in hospice. So if this person still
seems like they bring what we need to the table it is time to
kick it in high gear. We begin to let them know about company
benefits, continued education offers, and pension available
within our organization. Often times the best employees want to
hear about how impressed you are by some of their
accomplishments and give them time to feel you really know a
lot about them as well. Often times at this point both sides feel
confident about which way they want to go. I know using this
process worked very well for us and continues to work well as
we have a valued team that has stuck it out long term.

Good afternoon class,
While both papers have merit and well thought out, educated
arguments, I more closely align with Professor Stinneford's
interpretation of cruel and unusual punishment. I believe that
the death penalty and capital crimes are identified within the US
Constitution as an expectation of what is acceptable punishment
for crime. With that said, it needs to be used for only those
crimes that are the most violent and reprehensible acts with
definitive evidence that the one convicted committed the
offense. I don't believe the standard should be applied to what
was acceptable in 1791 when the amendment was ratified as it
must be a living document that is applied to what is currently
acceptable through the morals and values of the nation
collectively. With new technologies and innovations should
come a more current application of what is cruel and unusual
and what is not. There is a reason that these items have evolved
and our justice system is no different. We should always be
pushing for what is the most effective way to hold people
accountable for their actions and make sure it is acceptable to
the majority.

Based on week 13 reading assignment and research from three
(3) academically reviewed journal articles, describe an IT or
similar business project you have done, are currently doing or
would like to do. This should be original and not copied from
the internet. In your discussion, provide information on the
following:
1. What is that project? Provide complete description. Consider
using PPM.
2. What was the scoop, deliverable, and results of the project?
3. What constraints did you experience and how did you/will
you handle them?
4. If you had to do the same project again, what changes will
you recommend?
(Students must use academically reviewed articles only).
Wikipedia and other internet articles will not be accepted.
Use full APA throughout (use in-text citations and a APA
reference list).
Read and respond to at least two (2) of your classmates'
posts 150 words minimum. In your response to your classmates,
consider comparing your articles to those of your classmates.
Research from academic articles must be included in your
responses to classmates post.
Below are additional suggestions on how to respond to your
classmates’ discussions:
· Ask a probing question, substantiated with additional
background information, evidence or research.
· Share an insight from having read your colleagues’ postings,
synthesizing the information to provide new perspectives.
· Offer and support an alternative perspective using readings
from the classroom or from your own research.
· Validate an idea with your own experience and additional
research.
· Make a suggestion based on additional evidence drawn from
readings or after synthesizi ng multiple postings.
· Expand on your colleagues’ postings by providing additional
insights or contrasting perspectives based on readings and
evidence.

Information technology has become an integral part of the
global community as well as every business practices around the
world because of rapid industrialization as well as
globalization. The aim of effective project management is to
make sure that all the project profile, selection criteria and
business value works towards the common goal of success in the
organization in the market among its competitors(de Oliveira
Moraes & Barbin Laurindo, 2013). A project is a set of tasks or
a massive endeavor that consists of people, resources and
technology to implement an IT project solution in any
organization. It should consider having start and end dates with
all the phases tightly integrated with each other.
The Information technology project which I am
currently a part of is re-designing a legacy insurance system
into a web-based portal. In any insurance industry, there are a
lot of perks to be considered while designing the user interface
for the consumers and the insurance agents. There are various
modules in the legacy system among which this project is
focused on re-designing the APH which is known as the actual
production history module. There are a set of smaller chunks of
enhancement project portfolios that consists of close to 1000
rules for the development of the APH web-based portal.
The scope of the project is confined to the APH
module to be incorporated in a newer version of the web-based
portal for the insurance agents which consists of the deliverable
of creating 800-1000 business insurance rules which includes
API design, forms layout, automated calculation, data
integration and population etc. The result would be that all the
insurance business rules have been identified, reviewed,
updated and stored in the repository along with the newly
designed a web-based portal for the APH module. The major
constraints that I faced was understanding the insurance policy
logic, complex calculations and lengthy business rules with
multiple scenarios and the troubleshooting steps that I took was
to divide the longer rules into sub-rules, gather any previous
systems design or artifacts to get clarity of my thoughts,
reached out to legacy users and systems owners to understand
the complexity level of those business rules.
If I had to do the same project again, I would create a
centralized repository for business rules thus implementing
transparency, visibility, accountability as well as responsibility
among all the project members to have some level of maturity
and understanding of the complexities of the rules, system
design as well as the user interface of the whole APH module
web-based portal.

IT Project
I would like to work on an IoT or Internet of Things project in
the future. It is quite important to note that the Internet of
Things is an emerging field and its potential is being understood
and explored as time is passing. In fact, even though numerous
researches have already been performed on it, its potential is
still unexplored. In the future, I would like to work on a project
that is concerned with the adoption of IoT devices in the
organisation. The project itself would prove to be quite
beneficial for the organisation as it would enable the business to
achieve the efficiency and effectiveness that is generally not
possible through traditional means (Burke, 2013).
In the project, there would be several phases. The very first
phase would be the determination of different tools and
techniques that need to be considered and adopted. The second
phase is specifically concerned with the communication of the
objectives of the project with the employees. Meanwhile, the
third phase of the project is specifically concerned with the
implementation of the project. The last phase of the project is
all about ensuring that the required results are achieved and the
desired performance is achieved in an efficient manner. When
the project is implemented in an effective manner, it would
enable the business to not only deliver optimal performance but
it would also ensure that the predetermined results are
achieved (Meredith, Shafer, & Jr, 2017).
In the implementation of the project, there is a possibility that
issues in terms of resistance from employees might be
experienced. However, this issue or constraint can be
effectively handled when proper communication is established
between the management and the employees. It would ensure
that the employees are able to comprehend why the project is
being implemented in the first place and how it would benefit
them. Even though I have not really worked on the project
myself, it is important to note that if I ever get the opportunity
to work on the same project again, I would make sure to not
make the same mistakes and evaluate all the risks before
implementing the necessary strategies to mitigate them (Seddon,
Calvert, & Yang, 2010).

Think of a time when effective or ineffective communication affected your success at home, school, or work. In paragraph 1, describe what happened, in detail. In paragraph 2, explain how strong communication contributed to or could have improved the situation’s outcome. Be specific. Remember to answer each part of the question in 2 paragraphs. Each paragraph should be 5-7 sentences with limited grammatical errors (total 10-14 sentences). Also, respond to at least 1 of your peers (at least 1-2 sentences). • 3. I was at work. My team and i were told we had to stack boxes of product on a pallet but was not told it had to be a certain way. There was a certain pattern the boxes were supposed to be stacked. We were not informed of this mistake until we were completely done. We had to completely restack the boxes. This was the result of ineffective communication. If the communication was stronger then we would have known the correct way to stack the boxes. Having a diagram of the pattern would have helped a lot and we would have wasted time by redoing the pallet of product. Bottom of Form Bottom of Form JGR200: The Power of People Week 6 Discussion Question Part 1: Your Sales Pitch Top of Form From football teams to Fortune 500 companies, recruiting superior talent is essential to fueling a team’s successful growth, as you see from Coach’s story of getting John Riggins to rejoin the Redskins. However, convincing someone to join your team can be a tricky business. This week we look at ways to effectively recruit … with key insights that’ll help you convince someone that they need to join your team! Imagine you’re preparing to recruit someone to be part of your team. Name three things you would try to do or use in your sales pitch to close the deal. Why do YOU think those things would help you land your recruit?
  • 4. Part 2: Student Respond (Respond Kindly to the Student below) Elizabeth Farley RE: Your Sales Pitch Top of Form Hello Professor and classmates. In this week's discussion we will discuss the best ways to build a quality team. The best way for me to really connect with this question is relating it to an actual situation I have already been in. When creating a team for a our critical care unit at work I worked closely with our owner to pool together a large list of what we thought were quality candidates for each position available. Then, we started with brief phone interviews to get a little better feel of those candidates weeding the numbers down to live interview candidates from there. This allows for us to ask a couple of key questions to see a little more of the personal side of each candidate to see if they possess any of the values you are looking for. Many of our candidates came from recruitment sites and current employer referrals so we were pretty sure we had a pretty good starting point. Next, during interviews we started with letting the applicant discuss a little bit about themselves. Then we inform them of exactly why this team is being created and what team members will be expected to do. It takes a very special person both skilled as well as being compassionate and dedicated to be successful in hospice. So if this person still seems like they bring what we need to the table it is time to kick it in high gear. We begin to let them know about company benefits, continued education offers, and pension available within our organization. Often times the best employees want to hear about how impressed you are by some of their accomplishments and give them time to feel you really know a lot about them as well. Often times at this point both sides feel confident about which way they want to go. I know using this process worked very well for us and continues to work well as we have a valued team that has stuck it out long term.

  • 6. Part 2: Student Response (Respond kindly to the student below) Sean Lundry RE: Week 6 Discussion · 5 Good afternoon class, While both papers have merit and well thought out, educated arguments, I more closely align with Professor Stinneford's interpretation of cruel and unusual punishment. I believe that the death penalty and capital crimes are identified within the US Constitution as an expectation of what is acceptable punishment for crime. With that said, it needs to be used for only those crimes that are the most violent and reprehensible acts with definitive evidence that the one convicted committed the offense. I don't believe the standard should be applied to what was acceptable in 1791 when the amendment was ratified as it must be a living document that is applied to what is currently acceptable through the morals and values of the nation collectively. With new technologies and innovations should come a more current application of what is cruel and unusual and what is not. There is a reason that these items have evolved and our justice system is no different. We should always be pushing for what is the most effective way to hold people accountable for their actions and make sure it is acceptable to the majority. The aim of effective project management is to make sure that all the project profile, selection criteria and business value works towards the common goal of success in the organization in the market among its competitors(de Oliveira Moraes & Barbin Laurindo, 2013). A project is a set of tasks or a massive endeavor that consists of people, resources and technology to implement an IT project solution in any organization. It should consider having start and end dates with all the phases tightly integrated with each other. The Information technology project which I am currently a part of is re-designing a legacy insurance system into a web-based portal. In any insurance industry, there are a lot of perks to be considered while designing the user interface for the consumers and the insurance agents. There are various modules in the legacy system among which this project is focused on re-designing the APH which is known as the actual
  • 10. production history module. There are a set of smaller chunks of enhancement project portfolios that consists of close to 1000 rules for the development of the APH web-based portal. The scope of the project is confined to the APH module to be incorporated in a newer version of the web-based portal for the insurance agents which consists of the deliverable of creating 800-1000 business insurance rules which includes API design, forms layout, automated calculation, data integration and population etc. The result would be that all the insurance business rules have been identified, reviewed, updated and stored in the repository along with the newly designed a web-based portal for the APH module. The major constraints that I faced was understanding the insurance policy logic, complex calculations and lengthy business rules with multiple scenarios and the troubleshooting steps that I took was to divide the longer rules into sub-rules, gather any previous systems design or artifacts to get clarity of my thoughts, reached out to legacy users and systems owners to understand the complexity level of those business rules. If I had to do the same project again, I would create a centralized repository for business rules thus implementing transparency, visibility, accountability as well as responsibility among all the project members to have some level of maturity and understanding of the complexities of the rules, system design as well as the user interface of the whole APH module web-based portal. It is quite important to note that the Internet of Things is an emerging field and its potential is being understood and explored as time is passing. In fact, even though numerous researches have already been performed on it, its potential is still unexplored. In the future, I would like to work on a project that is concerned with the adoption of IoT devices in the organisation. The project itself would prove to be quite beneficial for the organisation as it would enable the business to achieve the efficiency and effectiveness that is generally not possible through traditional means (Burke, 2013). In the project, there would be several phases. The very first phase would be the determination of different tools and techniques that need to be considered and adopted. The second phase is specifically concerned with the communication of the objectives of the project with the employees. Meanwhile, the third phase of the project is specifically concerned with the implementation of the project. The last phase of the project is all about ensuring that the required results are achieved and the desired performance is achieved in an efficient manner. When the project is implemented in an effective manner, it would enable the business to not only deliver optimal performance but it would also ensure that the predetermined results are achieved (Meredith, Shafer, & Jr, 2017).
  • 12. In the implementation of the project, there is a possibility that issues in terms of resistance from employees might be experienced. However, this issue or constraint can be effectively handled when proper communication is established between the management and the employees. It would ensure that the employees are able to comprehend why the project is being implemented in the first place and how it would benefit them. Even though I have not really worked on the project myself, it is important to note that if I ever get the opportunity to work on the same project again, I would make sure to not make the same mistakes and evaluate all the risks before implementing the necessary strategies to mitigate them (Seddon, Calvert, & Yang, 2010).
