Systems of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SSCP) Knowledge-Action Network (KAN) is a global network of researchers and practitioners interested in ways that systems of sustainable consumption and production can be created, nurtured and contribute to a more sustainable world. SSCP KAN works to advance a more systemic approach to SCP, and to encourage and enable an urgent transformation in theory and practice to SCP systems.

Systems of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SSCP) Knowledge-Action Network (KAN) is a global network of researchers and practitioners interested in ways that systems of sustainable consumption and production can be created, nurtured and contribute to a more sustainable world. SSCP KAN works to advance a more systemic approach to SCP, and to encourage and enable an urgent transformation in theory and practice to SCP systems.

  1. 1. What is Future Earth? A global network of scientists, researchers, and innovators collaborating for a more sustainable planet. Mission: To accelerate transformations to global sustainability through research and innovation. Vision: for people to thrive in a sustainable and equitable world. • Officially announced at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20, 2012), to be created as a global initiative to strengthen the interface between policy and science. • Builds on more than three decades of global environmental change research by Global Research Projects. • Became fully operational at the end of 2015. • Currently governed by the International Science Council, the Belmont Forum of funding agencies, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization(UNESCO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations University (UNU), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum. Strategy How Future Earth Works • Focus on a systems-based approaches to understanding complex Earth systems and human dynamics across different disciplines. • Use this understanding to underpin evidence-systems-based policies and strategies for sustainable development. Mechanism Develop the knowledge and tools that government, communities, and companies need to meet the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. KNOWLEDGE-ACTION NETWORK on Systems of Sustainable Consumption and Production Goal: Promote a more systemic approach to sustainable consumption and production and enable a transformation in theory and practice. Challenge: - Address whole provisioning systems: • consumption practices • production conditions • life-cycle impacts • economic, political, social, and cultural imperatives that impel consumerist lifestyles - Strengthen collaboration between research and practice to move toward more holistic and systemic approaches and solutions.   • International offices: Building transformations to a more sustainable world is a task that falls to the entire planet. Future Earth also recognizes that each region of the globe also faces unique challenges, so we have 5 global hubs, 4 regional centers and offices, and 16 national and local organizations that propel research toward unique solutions to make progress on sustainability.
