1.1 INTRODUCTION
what is a Google Glass?
The Google glass is a glass with a Smartphone in
it and it brings together the world of internet and the real world.
The Google glass consists of a microphone, a camera, and a
screen.

2. TECHNOLOGIES USED
The technologies used in the Google glass are as follows:
>.Wearable computing.
>. Ambient intelligence (A m I).
>.Smart clothing.
>.Eye tap.
>.Smart grid technology.
>.4G technology.
>.Android operating system
Wearable computing: The wearable computers are also called as the
body-borne computers and they are tiny electronic machines and this
type of wearable applied science has been advanced for general
purposes, also for the unique purposes and for advancing media. These
types of devices are uniquely useful for the applications that need the
support of very complex computation.
Ambient intelligence: The ambient intelligence refers to the electronic
surroundings that are sensitive and responsive to the presence of the
people. In the world of ambient intelligence, the machines function or
operate in concerned to support people in doing their day to day life
activities and tasks in the simple and natural way by availing data and
intelligence that are present in the network connecting these machines.

Smart clothing: The smart clothing is the coming generation of
decorative clothing, it brings together the modern fabric technology and
digital technology and this means that the clothes are made with modern
signal transfer fabric applied science installed with digital machines.
Eye tap: An eye tap is a machine that is worn in the opposite of the eyes
and this eye tap plays the role of a camera to record the scenes available
to the eye and along with that it acts as a display to superimpose a
computer produced image on the genuine scene available to the eye.
Smart grid: A smart grid is an electrical grid that avails the
combination of data and the communication applied science acts on the
data like the data about the behavior of suppliers and consumers and
much more.
4G technology: The 4G technology is the fourth generation of the
mobile communication standards and it is an advanced form of third
generation technology i.e. 3G standards. A 4G system furnishes mobile
ultra-broadband internet access to laptops, smart phones and other
devices.
Android operating system: Android is a Linux-based operating system
for the mobile machine like smart phones, tablets, and android is
powered by Google and has a big community of developers for writing
applications i.e. apps and increases the functionality of machines.

3. HOW DOES IT WORK?
How Does It Work?
The design of the Google glass has the following:
Video display
Camera
Speaker
Button
Microphone
Video display: The video display is helpful in displaying the data.
Camera: The Google glass has a front camera for capturing the images
and videos.
Speaker: The speakers are also designed in the Google glass to make it
a hands-free wearable machine.
Button: A single button is furnished at the side of the frame and it
makes the Google glass to function with the input of physical touch.
Microphone: A microphone is also present and it is useful for the
telephonic exchange of information.

4. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES.
Advantages of Google Glass:
The advantages of the Google glass are as follows:
1.> It does not need any Bluetooth or camera when the glass is switched
on.
2.> It will furnish detailed data and satisfying results on the queries
made by the people.
3.> It does all the work that a smart phone is capable of doing.

4.1 Disadvantages of Google glass.
Disadvantages of Google Glass:
The disadvantages of the Google glass are as follows:
1.> The Google glass gives an awkward look among the people.
2.> It does not give any indication while capturing the images and acts
like a hidden camera.
3.> It causes many problems when used on the roads.
4.> It does not have the feature of public security.
5.> It has a huge competition in the market.

5. FUTURE OF GOOGLE GLASS
It seemed like the nascent augmented reality industry was on a
roller coaster at the start of the year. Things looked bad when Google
announced that it was terminating sales of its Glass headset in favor of
developing some new version to be announced at some time in the
future. (Possibly in a galaxy far, far away.) But then the future looked
bright again when Microsoft unveiled its HoloLens AR headset at a
razzle-dazzle press event in late January.
But the truth is that well before the debut of Holo Lens, the
AR ecosystem had been moving away from Google’s model of always-
available wearable computing and toward the idea that AR headsets
should be—at least for now—something you use only for specific tasks.
At the Consumer Electronics Show (Ces) in Las Vegas just after New
Year’s, most of the capabilities advertised a few weeks later by
Microsoft for its HoloLens prototypes were already on display on the
show floor (albeit spread among several exhibitors), and they were
mostly doing industrial and enterprise work.
One example was a US $5,000 industrial headset from San Francisco–
based Osterhaut Design Group. Unlike Glass, whose single display is
tucked away at the far side of the frame, occupying a small corner of the
wearer’s field of view, ODG’s binocular system delivers graphics front
and center. Flipping down a sunglasses-like visor blocks the wearer’s
view of the outside world and converts the headset from augmented
reality to virtual reality. (A $1,000 consumer version is planned for
release later this year.)

Augment, headquartered in Oulu, Finland, eliminated the need for voice
commands—always tricky in noisy work environments—with a system
that can recognize hand gestures. I used it to play rock-paper-scissors,
but ultimately the technology should allow a wearer to see a keyboard or
industrial controls overlaid on the palm of one hand and “press” them
using a finger from the other hand.
At the Moverio demo by Ingrain , of Vancouver, Canada, a scale model
of an electric generator sat on the table. Once I put on the glasses, I
could look at the model and highlight a particular part, causing a 3-D
representation of that piece, overlaid on the generator, to pop up. The 3-
D models tracked the changing perspective as I turned and moved my
head, albeit with some jitter in the image.
Finally, I used the Moverio glasses to look at a pump mechanism using
an app made by Scope ar, based in Edmonton, Alberta. Looking at the
pump through the Moverio glasses allowed me to watch a series of
instructions for performing maintenance, with virtual tools such as a
wrench overlaid on the areas where they would be used on the real
pump, plus an animation of the required motion.
And even though Holo Lens is targeted firmly at the consumer,
Microsoft’s presentation emphasized its usefulness for physical tasks.
Like the AR instruments at CES, the HoloLens makes no attempt to
emulate Google Glass’s minimal intrusion into the wearer’s field of
view: The headset looks like a pair of ski goggles. The system can track
eye movements, listen to voice commands, and follow hand gestures
much as a Microsoft does. (Alex Kipman at Microsoft developed both
the kinect and the Holo Lens.)

6. CONCLUSION
Google Glass hopes to be one of the newest and most innovative
technologies in recent times. The world of wearable computers and
augmented reality has barely been introduced, and Glass intends to be a
pioneer into this field in the same way that the iPod was in the electronic
music player industry. Although Google Glass is still in the development
process and far from the production phase, there are already numerous
of capabilities and applications that could be very useful for consumers,
such as live video and data streaming. Users will be able to utilize email,
video chat such as Skype, and social networking services such as Twitter
and Facebook. However, not all is perfect with Google Glass. The ever-
present fear of security threats, such as theft and malware, must also be
taken into consideration. Some precautions have already been taken to
thwart thieves; however steps of protection against malware have not yet
been discussed by Glass’ designers. There are also potential ethical
problems, such as privacy issues that may come up with the use of
Google Glass. While production and sale of Google Glass for the public
will not occur for at least a few years, many consumers will be enviously
waiting for the chance to get their hands on one. Google Glass will
definitely be a very exciting new development in the field of information
technology, and will have a significant impact on the direction that the
technology industry follows in the future.

  • 5. 1.1 INTRODUCTION what is a Google Glass? The Google glass is a glass with a Smartphone in it and it brings together the world of internet and the real world. The Google glass consists of a microphone, a camera, and a screen. BPPIMT, KOLKATA 2
  • 6. 2. TECHNOLOGIES USED The technologies used in the Google glass are as follows: >.Wearable computing. >. Ambient intelligence (A m I). >.Smart clothing. >.Eye tap. >.Smart grid technology. >.4G technology. >.Android operating system Wearable computing: The wearable computers are also called as the body-borne computers and they are tiny electronic machines and this type of wearable applied science has been advanced for general purposes, also for the unique purposes and for advancing media. These types of devices are uniquely useful for the applications that need the support of very complex computation. Ambient intelligence: The ambient intelligence refers to the electronic surroundings that are sensitive and responsive to the presence of the people. In the world of ambient intelligence, the machines function or operate in concerned to support people in doing their day to day life activities and tasks in the simple and natural way by availing data and intelligence that are present in the network connecting these machines. Smart clothing: The smart clothing is the coming generation of decorative clothing, it brings together the modern fabric technology and digital technology and this means that the clothes are made with modern signal transfer fabric applied science installed with digital machines. Eye tap: An eye tap is a machine that is worn in the opposite of the eyes and this eye tap plays the role of a camera to record the scenes available to the eye and along with that it acts as a display to superimpose a computer produced image on the genuine scene available to the eye. Smart grid: A smart grid is an electrical grid that avails the combination of data and the communication applied science acts on the data like the data about the behavior of suppliers and consumers and much more. 4G technology: The 4G technology is the fourth generation of the mobile communication standards and it is an advanced form of third generation technology i.e. 3G standards. A 4G system furnishes mobile ultra-broadband internet access to laptops, smart phones and other devices. Android operating system: Android is a Linux-based operating system for the mobile machine like smart phones, tablets, and android is powered by Google and has a big community of developers for writing applications i.e. apps and increases the functionality of machines. The design of the Google glass has the following: Video display Camera Speaker Button Microphone Video display: The video display is helpful in displaying the data. Camera: The Google glass has a front camera for capturing the images and videos. Speaker: The speakers are also designed in the Google glass to make it a hands-free wearable machine. Button: A single button is furnished at the side of the frame and it makes the Google glass to function with the input of physical touch. Advantages of Google Glass: The advantages of the Google glass are as follows: 1.> It does not need any Bluetooth or camera when the glass is switched on. 2.> It will furnish detailed data and satisfying results on the queries made by the people. 3.> It does all the work that a smart phone is capable of doing. Disadvantages of Google Glass: The disadvantages of the Google glass are as follows: 1.> The Google glass gives an awkward look among the people. 2.> It does not give any indication while capturing the images and acts like a hidden camera. 3.> It causes many problems when used on the roads. 4.> It does not have the feature of public security. 5.> It has a huge competition in the market.   • 12. 5. FUTURE OF GOOGLE GLASS It seemed like the nascent augmented reality industry was on a roller coaster at the start of the year. Things looked bad when Google announced that it was terminating sales of its Glass headset in favor of developing some new version to be announced at some time in the future. (Possibly in a galaxy far, far away.) But then the future looked bright again when Microsoft unveiled its HoloLens AR headset at a razzle-dazzle press event in late January. But the truth is that well before the debut of Holo Lens, the AR ecosystem had been moving away from Google’s model of always- available wearable computing and toward the idea that AR headsets should be—at least for now—something you use only for specific tasks. At the Consumer Electronics Show (Ces) in Las Vegas just after New Year’s, most of the capabilities advertised a few weeks later by Microsoft for its HoloLens prototypes were already on display on the show floor (albeit spread among several exhibitors), and they were mostly doing industrial and enterprise work. One example was a US $5,000 industrial headset from San Francisco– based Osterhaut Design Group. Unlike Glass, whose single display is tucked away at the far side of the frame, occupying a small corner of the wearer’s field of view, ODG’s binocular system delivers graphics front and center. Flipping down a sunglasses-like visor blocks the wearer’s view of the outside world and converts the headset from augmented reality to virtual reality. (A $1,000 consumer version is planned for release later this year.) BPPIMT, KOKATA 9
  • 13. Augment, headquartered in Oulu, Finland, eliminated the need for voice commands—always tricky in noisy work environments—with a system that can recognize hand gestures. I used it to play rock-paper-scissors, but ultimately the technology should allow a wearer to see a keyboard or industrial controls overlaid on the palm of one hand and “press” them using a finger from the other hand. At the Moverio demo by Ingrain , of Vancouver, Canada, a scale model of an electric generator sat on the table. Once I put on the glasses, I could look at the model and highlight a particular part, causing a 3-D representation of that piece, overlaid on the generator, to pop up. The 3- D models tracked the changing perspective as I turned and moved my head, albeit with some jitter in the image. Finally, I used the Moverio glasses to look at a pump mechanism using an app made by Scope ar, based in Edmonton, Alberta. Looking at the pump through the Moverio glasses allowed me to watch a series of instructions for performing maintenance, with virtual tools such as a wrench overlaid on the areas where they would be used on the real pump, plus an animation of the required motion. And even though Holo Lens is targeted firmly at the consumer, Microsoft’s presentation emphasized its usefulness for physical tasks. Like the AR instruments at CES, the HoloLens makes no attempt to emulate Google Glass’s minimal intrusion into the wearer’s field of view: The headset looks like a pair of ski goggles. The system can track eye movements, listen to voice commands, and follow hand gestures much as a Microsoft does. (Alex Kipman at Microsoft developed both the kinect and the Holo Lens.)   • 14. 6. CONCLUSION Google Glass hopes to be one of the newest and most innovative technologies in recent times. The world of wearable computers and augmented reality has barely been introduced, and Glass intends to be a pioneer into this field in the same way that the iPod was in the electronic music player industry. Although Google Glass is still in the development process and far from the production phase, there are already numerous of capabilities and applications that could be very useful for consumers, such as live video and data streaming. Users will be able to utilize email, video chat such as Skype, and social networking services such as Twitter and Facebook. However, not all is perfect with Google Glass. The ever- present fear of security threats, such as theft and malware, must also be taken into consideration. Some precautions have already been taken to thwart thieves; however steps of protection against malware have not yet been discussed by Glass’ designers. There are also potential ethical problems, such as privacy issues that may come up with the use of Google Glass. While production and sale of Google Glass for the public will not occur for at least a few years, many consumers will be enviously waiting for the chance to get their hands on one. Google Glass will definitely be a very exciting new development in the field of information technology, and will have a significant impact on the direction that the technology industry follows in the future.
