Sandi Wassmer gave a presentation on inclusive design at the Google Campus in London. She discussed the 10 principles of inclusive design: equitable, flexible, straightforward, perceptible, informative, preventative, tolerant, effortless, accommodating, and consistent. The principles aim to create user experiences that welcome all people without discrimination, provide choices that consider different users and contexts, and design in a way that is obvious, minimizes complexity and errors, conveys information meaningfully, and follows standards and conventions.

4. Principle one: Equitable
Be welcoming, don't discriminate.
Create different & equally valuable user
experiences.
Aesthetics matter.

5. Principle two: Flexible
Provide choice.
Consider users, locations & devices.
Think who, how, why, what, where & when.

6. Principle three: Straightforward
Be obvious, not ambiguous.
Add value, not complexity.
Good design is as little design as possible.

7. Principle four: Perceptible
Don't assume.
Make sure your design is fit for purpose.
Convey information meaningfully.

8. Principle five: Informative
Let people know where they are & how
to find what they're looking for.
Be timely, predictable, uncomplicated
and precise.

9. Principle six: Preventative
Provide easy to follow
instructions & guide gently.
Minimise user input errors.
Design great forms.

10. Principle seven: Tolerant
Handle errors respectfully
& make it crystal clear.
Let people know they've succeeded.

11. Principle eight: Effortless
Don't make users do any heavy lifting.
Efficiency + Effectiveness = Effortlessness

12. Principle nine: Accommodating
Be approachable, unobtrusive & uncluttered.
Give people room to manoeuvre.
Be responsive to devices of all
shapes & sizes.

Follow standards, conventions
& best practices.
Be familiar & memorable.
