Factual Diary Week 2
I spent parts of my Christmas break filming the black and
white scenes for my factual documentary web series showing
John Snow’s life and discovery of cholera. The process took
two days in my holiday, on the first day I filmed my dad (as
John Snow) doing experiments on anaesthesia and cholera in
my house or near the water pump. On the second day I filmed
my dad re-enactment John Snow’s past in the York Castle
Museum Victorian town recreation exhibit.
The work went good overall, but filming in public places did
mean people would constantly walk in front of the shot giving
me a short time window to film. For my low budget, setting
scenes in the past are the best part of this weeks production
because of how convincing it looks showing a Victorian
setting. Some of the editing still needs improvement because
I ran out of footage and filled it with footage of or to do with
John Snow in certain areas.
Because this project wasn’t too ambitious, I didn’t face many
problems, the only one I did was people walking into the shot
when I was trying to film all the time. I fixed this problem by
waiting for the public places were I was filming to be empty
enough to film the scene as quickly but effectively as
possible.
My plan for this coming week is to finish editing my project
and finally interview one of my interviewees if they don’t all
back out last minute like most of the time. My main
interviewee is heather Sherman who I’m going to interview
tomorrow with the help of Brody, once I’ve gotten that
footage I can edit it all together and do my evaluation.
