  3. z PHARMACIST  Pharmacist is the one who is licensed to prepare and dispense medications, counsel patients, and monitor outcomes pursuant to a prescription from a licensed health professional.  Pharmacists work in both community and hospital pharmacies.  The pharmacist who works in hospital is considered as hospital pharmacist.
  4. z HOSPITAL PHARMACIST ;  dispenses medications.  Educates and counsel patients.  Provides drug information services.  Provides advanced training in an area of patient care.  Screens, monitor and advices for self-treatment with OTC products sold without prescription.  Develop policies and procedures.  Purchases drugs and supplies.  Monitors drug use in the hospital.
  5. z PROFESSIONAL RELATIONS- A pharmacist can promote his profession by following: 1. Maintaining professional relation with physicians, medical research staff ,clinical and nursing staff or other health care professions in the hospital or employing institution. 2. Maintaining professional relation with medical representative and suppliers. 3. Maintaining professional relation with general public and patients. 4. Maintaining professional relation with pharmaceutical industry. 5. Participating in teaching and information services of hospital. 6. Participating in activities of professional associations.(NPW,World pharmacist’s day) 7. Organizing educational services for the public. 8. Participating in hospital administrative works. 9. Provides services through various hospital committees.

  7. z PARTICIPATING IN TEACHING AND INFORMATION SERVICES OF THE HOSPITAL In order to be in touch with constant development of health profession, all the members of health care team are required to be educated and provided with latest information . continuing education programs for staff publishing pharmacy bulletins, newsletters maintaining hospital library establish and run drug information centre publishing hospital formulary.
  8. z ORGANIZING EDUCATIONAL SERVICES FOR THE PUBLIC No treatment is possible without use of medication, educating the patient about its proper use, storage b, side effects if any, has to be carried out by pharmacists. Effectively pharmacists have to prepare display boards, banners and other propaganda materials . Pharmacists can also arrange audio visual presentation using slides, short films and appeal vedios by popular personalities which are well received by rural people.
  9. z PARTICIPATING IN ACTIVITIES OF PROFESSIONALASSOCIATIONS All the pharmacist must join as a member of professional association of the area of practice . These associations usually carry on the work of popularizing the profession by various themes of professional day celebrations like world pharmacist day , national pharmacy weak . Only by participating in professional association meetings. pharmacists can correct any deficiency in its activities or inaction or direct its course of action. There are many professional associations in India in our pharmacy field, among them Indian Pharmaceutical Association and India pharmacy graduates association are the major associations.
  10. z PROFESSIONAL RELATION WITH RESEARCH STAFF Through clinical research is carried out by exclusive organization established for the purpose of research , hospitals also play an important role in research activities. Research for new drugs or new indication for old drugs ,drugs suspected of ADR. In all these researches pharmacist can provide background information gathered through hospital DIC. As a clinical pharmacist work involves pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics study of drugs used by patients , he / she have lot of opportunities to do research on these subjects.
  11. z PROVIDING SERVICE THROUGH HOSPITAL COMMITTEES Pharmacist can play an active role in various committees of the hospital especially in PTC , antibiotics committee, infection control committee etc. pharmacist must strive hard to put in his best possible service through the activities of these committees. Many hospital pharmacists are correctly servicing on such committee like- current practice committee safety committee infection control committee antibiotic committee administrative policy committee.
  12. z ORGANIZING DRUG REHABILITATION AND CONSULTATION PROGRAMS A hospital pharmacist has to organize or participate in drug rehabilitation and consultation program , as he is considered as expert and custodian of drugs. Hence misuse or abuse of drugs by patients or public provide his inner consciousness.
