- Looking at the Norway – Rotterdam volumes, we see a year on year growth in TEU shipped. Meaning that more and more shippers and logistic service providers are choosing ship instead of truck and that transshipment to Norway via Rotterdam is increasing. But what is the reason PoR has become the biggest container port of Europe? To answer this question we have to look at the role PoR plays within the supply chain.
- If we focus on containers we have 2 or actually 3 roles we play in the Supply Chain. Gateway Transshipment hub Shortsea hub Rotterdam Shortsea Fast Hub is a fast, flexible and reliable intra -European hub, with added value activities in 1 port area, with the opportunity to switch between different modalities via land and sea. Play Short Movie We as PoR indeed have a fortunate geographical location next to the North sea and inland rivers, which gives us a competitive advantage However, continuous investments are needed to maintain this position also in the future. Investments are needed in, for example, a state of the art port community system, sustainability, modal shift, inland terminal network but also in partnerships with different parties in the supply chain. In the following sheets I want to highlight a few area’s PoR is investing in in order to strengthen its position in the supply chain and ad more value to its customers.
