”
“The way to happiness: Keep your heart free
from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply,
expect little, give much. Scatter sunshine, forget
self and think of others. Try this for a week and
you will be surprised.”
―BY NORMAN VINCENT PEALE, THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING
3
Key Lessons from “The Power of
Positive Thinking”:
How to find that Inner-peace that
every human being craves for
Author advises people to utilize their
most precious and pleasant memories,
move from noisy places and find a quiet
and peaceful one.
The next step is to remain thoughtless
for at least 15 minutes each day. This
doesn’t mean that thoughts would not
occur, but you have to ignore them and
change them with more optimistic ones,
that is the whole key to a blissful inner
state.
Difference between negative
and positive thinking
Your background shapes your thoughts
and your thoughts affect your inner
feelings.
This simple logic leads you to a
realization that negative thoughts are
responsible for anxiety and failures,
while positives ones are representatives
of Godly nature and energy that
contribute to overall success and
happiness.
Actualize your goals by praying
Every person is familiar with that old-
school saying- “Hard work pays off,”
and almost anything is possible if a
significant amount of effort and energy
are pointed towards an ultimate goal.
According to “The Power of Positive
Thinking,” every person that is
subjected to praying must go through
three key phases:
“Prayers” – Develop a daily habit.
“Visualization” – Visualize the thing you
want to become or to have.
“Actualization” – Realize these goals.
4
7 CORE LESSONS:
 Lesson#01 believe in yourself
 Lesson#02 overcoming feeling of
inferiority and self-doubts
 Lesson#03 Having a peaceful and
relaxed mind
 Lesson#04 expect the best and get it
 Lesson#05 don’t believe in defeat
 Lesson#06 break the habit of worry,
start solving the problems
 Lesson#07 power of using
imagination/affirmation/prayers
5
Lesson#01 Believe In Yourself:
 You can be successful and happy by developing reasonable confidence in
your own powers.
 Self-confidence leads to self-realization and successful achievements’.
 When you believe in yourself you will be able to release your inner powers
and when your personality is inclined towards positivity you start to draw
success towards you.
6
Lesson#02 Overcoming Feeling of
Inferiority and Self-Doubts:
 Inferiority and self-doubt fills your mind with overflowing faith by developing
tremendous faith in God and that will give you a humble yet soundly
realistic faith in yourself.
 Another way is to prepare and imprint on your mind a mental picture of
yourself as being successful keep this picture in your mind’s eye without
wavering.
 Make sure to picture success and all that you want because your mind will
seek to bring into your life that what you think constantly. So, keep away
thinking of failure or negativity.
7
Lesson#03. Having a Peaceful and
Relaxed Mind:
 A primary method for gaining a mind full of piece is to practice emptying
the mind.
 The author recommends a mind emptying practice at least twice a day
more often if necessary practice emptying your mind of fear, hate, guilt,
regret, insecurity feelings.
 Your mere attempt at this practice tends to give relief when pressure and
tension are mounting up on you, you fail to derive from life its true essence
you got to remember to slow down and relax.
 One of the simplest method for reducing tension is to practice the easy
desert attitude do everything more slowly less hectically and without
pressure.
8
Lesson#04 Expect The Best and Get It:
 Get the habit of expecting the best and not the worst by training to belief
think positively to have faith in either God or yourself.
 Commit to change your mental habits to belief instead of disbelief, learn to
expect not to doubt by this you bring everything into the realm of
possibility.
 To learn to belief is of primary importance.
 It is the basic factor for succeeding in any situation when you expect the
best you release a magnetic force in your mind which buy a law of
attraction tends to bring the best to you.
9
Lesson#05 Don’t Believe In Defeat:
 If you are thinking thoughts of defeat get rid of such thoughts for as you
think of defeat you tend to get it adopt the I don’t belief in defeat attitude.
 Don’t go crawling through life on your hands and knees have defeated
stand up to your obstacles and do something about them you will find that
they don’t have half the strength you think they have.
 You can do this when you have faith, faith in GOD, faith in yourself. Faith is
the chief quality you need, it is enough in fact it is more than enough.
10
Lesson#06 Break The Habit of Worry,
Start Solving The Problems:
 Worry; in its simplest definition is an unhealthy and destructive mental
habit.
 You were not born with the worry habit but you acquired it so you can
change it just like any other habit you have to practice the opposite of
worry which is faith.
 With all the strength you can generate start practicing faith.
 Solving problem belief that if there is a problem there is a solution.
 Keep calm and be relaxed.
 Be intense blocks the flow of creative thought power and your brain cannot
perform efficiently under stress.
11
Lesson#07 Power of Using
Imagination/Affirmation/Prayers:
Imagination
Picture yourself as
succeeding and don’t build
up any obstacles in your
imagination by giving in to
fearful thoughts.
Affirmation
Affirm what you want if
you feel fearful to do
something affirm to
yourself that you can do
it.
Prayer
Set aside few minutes
every day to for prayer.
No need to say anything
but simply practice the
presence of GOD.
Then pray orally in
terms that are familiar to
you no need to try to
address GOD how other
do.
12
Criticisms:
 Peale's work came under criticism from various mental health experts,
theologians, and academics.
 One general criticism against Peale’s book was the lack of verified
sources.
 The Power of Positive Thinking includes many personal narratives that the
reader has no way of validating.
 The book includes stories about “a business executive”, “a man, an
alcoholic”, “a famous trapeze artist”, “a friend of [Peale’s], a Midwestern
businessman”, and other unnamed individuals which cannot be verified
from the information Peale presents with each narrative.
