Level Design Document
Abandoned manor is the first map of our game, dedicated to the theme as a horror story focused in the Creepypasta
series called “TheHolders”. The game itself occurs in any city in any country where you can find a mental institution
where all happens, the 2538 objects are cometogether once again. The chaos can be checked when we leave the map
and face the destroyed town.
1. Time: We have a deadline to be 30th
2. Tech: Unreal Engine 4
3. Limitations: Lack of assets, we must use the Assets from Unreal Marketplace.
4. Requirements: An abandoned manorwith an old style, the manor must provide the feeling of a chaotic place
where some incident happen. The game is dark and the manor must be dirty and irregular in his geometry.
5. Purpose: Introduce the story of The Holders and also what happened in this place.
6. Gameplay: Exploration, the player must explore the whole environment and find the way to the exit. A couple
of items could be integrated to provide a more rich experience in the exploration term.
7. Theme: Abandoned Manor.
Thetime seems pretty soon in order to create the environment, the engine used is well known and was used in a couple
of examples before, even the team has experience using the programming aspects, so every puzzle or even the items
can be achieved in a really short amount of time (Specially if we count the thesis project where we design an inventory
system). The limitations forces to use to include so many elements to create the originality in the level. Using assets
from a marketplace is a double blade sword, because they provide us a really good quality assets but it also gives us a
problem to not be an original piece of art and it can be used for any other developer in the world for a game. Anyway
the assets, the engine and the requirements fits so well with the purpose to introduce the story of this world in chaos
with the 2538 objects from “The Holders” are together again. Is a really well scenario to explain every single detail of
this world before and after the reunion.
Gameplay is a really hard decision because this kind of game known as “First Person Exploration Games” (FPEG), are
known for some part of the audience as a “Walking Simulator”. Anyway the monologue of the main character must be
the key to achieve the feeling of the story with also a really good concept of an abandoned manor with an old style
(We will use a style between the ends of the 19th
Century to the beginning of 20th
Century). We will have photo
references to include in our game. The manor itself will be designed with an original form using as a base some
blueprints of other manors that I found in the web.
The Theme probably will be changed in middle of the development due to the so big concept about an abandoned
manor, we are not making a horror game, but it will include some elements of horror. We are doing an exploration
game with an isolated man in this town trying to figure what kind of disaster happened.
