3. KIMIA UNSUR
Disebut gas mulia karena semua unsur pada golongan ini berwujud gas dan memiliki konfigurasi
elektron yang sangat stabil, sehingga akan sangat sulit untuk bereaksi dengan unsur lainnya. Unsur-
unsur gas mulia antara lain adalah helium (He), neon (Ne), argon (Ar), Kripton (Kr), Xenon (Xe), dan
Radon (Rn).
5. 1. SIFAT ANATOMIK
Pada sifat atomik, molekul-molekul gas mulia terdiri atas satu atom (monoatom). Unsur-unsur gas
mulia memiliki jari-jari atom yang semakin besar apabila dilihat dari atas ke bawah (helium ke radon).
Tapi, energi ionisasinya semakin kecil seiring dengan bertambahnya jari-jari atom, sehingga semakin
mudah melepaskan elektron. Unsur-unsur golongan ini memiliki elektron valensi 2 dan 8 yang
menandakan semua elektron pada kulitnya sudah stabil dan berpasangan.
6. 2. SIFAT KIMIA
Unsur-unsur gas mulia memiliki konfigurasi elektron yang stabil karena semua elektron pada kulit
terluarnya sudah berpasangan/penuh. Hal ini menyebabkan gas mulia cenderung sulit bereaksi
dengan unsur lainnya. Namun, saat ini sudah ada beberapa unsur gas mulia yang dapat bereaksi
dengan unsur lain yang sangat elektronegatif, yaitu xenon dan kripton. Selain itu, konfigurasi elektron
yang stabil ini juga menyebabkan gas mulia biasa digunakan sebagai penyingkatan konfigurasi
elektron bagi unsur lain.

7. 2. SIFAT FISIKA
Berdasarkan sifat fisisnya, gas mulia memiliki titik leleh dan titik didih yang sangat rendah. Titik didih
dan titik leleh unsur-unsur gas mulia lebih kecil dari suhu kamar (25°C), sehingga seluruh unsur gas
mulia berwujud gas. Titik leleh dan titik didih unsur-unsur gas mulia dari atas ke bawah (helium ke
radon) akan semakin bertambah seiring dengan bertambahnya massa atom dan jari-jari atom.
Kerapatan (densitas) unsur-unsur gas mulia juga akan semakin bertambah dari atas ke bawah.

periodik yang memiliki lambang He dan
nomor atom 2. Helium tidak berwarna,
tidak berbau, tidak berasa, tidak beracun,
hampir inert, berupa gas monatomik, dan
merupakan unsur pertama pada golongan
gas mulia dalam tabel periodik.
