Philosophical Terms

• Philosophy - from Greek words
“philos” (love) and “sophia” (wisdom);
ancient Greeks used the term to mean
“love of wisdom”
- in contemporary era, Philosophy is a
field of discipline which utilizes reason to
address various concerns of the world

• Human person - a creature with the
ability to reason; a rational species; the
object and the subject of Philosophy
• Reason - the power of thinking,
understanding, inferring in a logical or
systematic manner

• Knowledge - awareness of something
• Wisdom - knowledge of what is proper
and reasonable; ability to scrutinize and
discern
