Having clear lines of communication is important in a business, but that can
become tricky when an employee needs to report a superior for misconduct. We
interviewed nearly 400 full-time employees to learn a couple of things:
• Are employees uncomfortable with reporting their boss?
• What methods are businesses using for employees to file such a formal
complaint?
• What methods for filing a formal complaint against their boss would make
employees most comfortable?

Only 32 percent of respondents said they would feel “very comfortable” with filing
a complaint against their boss.

retaliation, the most often filed charge to the EEOC in 2013.

channel was to file a formal complaint, or that they didn’t have one.

Seventy-five percent of respondents said that being comfortable with filing a
formal complaint was “very” or “moderately” important to their job satisfaction.
