In January 2013, I had a special opportunity to do Archaeological research in West Africa. I did
volunteer work, such as slag mound excavations, and survey work in late iron age and stone age sites in
Bassar, Togo. I helped Archaeologist, Dr. Philip De Barros, Senior Fulbright recipient 2013 with his
research in this area. The purpose of this research was conducted in order to develop a chronology of the
smithing and smelting (Bassar ) iron industry.
