up a purple card from a sidesperson. With the purple card in your hand at the altar
rail, the communion minister will know that you require a gluten free wafer.
All baptized Christians, regardless of denomination or age, are invited to receive
Communion in the Anglican Church. If you do not wish to receive the bread and wine,
please come to the Altar, and cross your arms over your chest to receive a blessing.

This morning, we offer the Rite of Healing at both services. For those who wish, this is
an opportunity to pray specifically for healing. Since Biblical times, this prayer has been
accompanied by anointing with oil. At 8:30am, please proceed to the chancel steps
after you have received Communion. At 10:30am, please proceed to St. Andrew’s
chapel after you have received Communion.
Due to our much improved sound system, the technician who installed it has
suggested that people who wear hearing aids may need to turn them down or even
off during services.
Parables & Pints: The next installment of Parables & Pints will take place this
Tuesday, September 10th at 7:30 p.m. at the Tara Inn, 2365 Kingston Rd (near
Midland). Please join us as we share a pint (or soft drink) and discuss Jesus’
parable on the Sheep and the Goats (Matthew 25:31-46). All are welcome to
attend.
THANK YOU!!! TO ALL THOSE WHO ATTENDED, AND ALL THOSE WHO HELPED WITH,
VACATION BIBLE CAMP! From August 19-24th, we welcomed 15 young people to
Vacation Bible Camp. It was an exciting and action packed week as we learned
about Jesus and how Jesus brings true peace, true riches, true power, true love
and true hope! Special thanks to all those who helped with this ministry by
sharing their time, talent and energy especially: Maureen Rose Everatt, Lynelle
Forscutt, Freda Gearing, Jay Hanson, Julia Hanson, Sonia Halloran, Jan Main,
Sue O’Leary, Vivienne Radford, Andrew Reeves and Joan Mary Spencer and
Heather Wickenden.
Join us on September 18th for the 10am Wednesday service when our guest
preacher will be The Reverend Jo-Anne Billinger. Jo-Anne was a parishioner
and choir member here at St. Nicholas for many years before following the call to
ordained ministry.
Are you planning on attending Rev. Alison’s Induction at St. Martin’s on
Sunday September 22nd? St. Martin’s has contacted us, and they have limited
parking, and are arranging for overflow parking (with a bit of a walk to the church).
We will be renting a school bus to take us all there and back with no parking
concerns. If you would like a spot on the bus, please sign up on the bulletin board.
We expect the cost to be about $10 per person.
Why has the response to the readings changed? Through the season of
Pentecost, the Reader’s proclamation “The Word of the Lord” has been changed to
“Listen to what the Spirit is saying to the Churches.” The phrase “Listen to what
the Spirit is saying to the Churches” comes from the Book of Revelation. It serves as
a reminder and witness to the power of the Spirit at work in our life calling us to new
awareness of God’s word, activity and salvation.
Have you ever wished you had the opportunity to be a Server, Crucifer or Torchbearer?
If this is something you have always wanted to do, or even if you haven’t really thought
about it before, this is an invitation to any parishioners to speak to Rev’d Janet by
phone or e-mail at jrh@stnicholasbirch.com. The time commitment would be once
every 3 or 4 weeks.
Toward Healing and Reconciliation: Three evenings of Listening and Learning at the
Church of The Redeemer (162 Bloor St. W) Wednesday September 25, Thursday,
October 3rd, Thursday October 10. The Aboriginal Issues Working Group invites you to
participate in three powerful evenings of learning to deepen our understanding of the
issues of Residential Schools, that hopefully will lead to a place of healing and
reconciliation. Flyers are available on the Manderley bulletin board.

Bazaar News
Watch this space for information and ways you can help.
The Bazaar is set for November 2nd from noon – 3pm.
There will be a book table/room at the Bazaar, so if you’re thinking of getting rid of
some books, please hold on to them until closer to the Bazaar date. We’ll let you
know when to bring them in. Stephanie also plans to sell CD’s as well as books,
so if you want to make space for new music, here is your chance to clean out that
CD shelf.
Rev. Janet is available for conversations about life or faith, and to respond to
pastoral situations and pastoral emergencies. Please don’t hesitate to contact
her via email at jrh@stnicholasbirchcliff.com or by calling the church office at
416-691-0449 ext. 223 or in the case of an emergency at 416-648-1418.
A note from Carmine Lappano
To the congregation of St. Nicholas.
My wife and I would like to thank you all for such a wonderful
send-off the other day. We thank you again for your warmth
and support during our time here. God bless!
The Lappano family.

  • 2. Due to our much improved sound system, the technician who installed it has suggested that people who wear hearing aids may need to turn them down or even off during services. Parables & Pints: The next installment of Parables & Pints will take place this Tuesday, September 10th at 7:30 p.m. at the Tara Inn, 2365 Kingston Rd (near Midland). Please join us as we share a pint (or soft drink) and discuss Jesus’ parable on the Sheep and the Goats (Matthew 25:31-46). All are welcome to attend. THANK YOU!!! TO ALL THOSE WHO ATTENDED, AND ALL THOSE WHO HELPED WITH, VACATION BIBLE CAMP! From August 19-24th, we welcomed 15 young people to Vacation Bible Camp. It was an exciting and action packed week as we learned about Jesus and how Jesus brings true peace, true riches, true power, true love and true hope! Special thanks to all those who helped with this ministry by sharing their time, talent and energy especially: Maureen Rose Everatt, Lynelle Forscutt, Freda Gearing, Jay Hanson, Julia Hanson, Sonia Halloran, Jan Main, Sue O’Leary, Vivienne Radford, Andrew Reeves and Joan Mary Spencer and Heather Wickenden. Join us on September 18th for the 10am Wednesday service when our guest preacher will be The Reverend Jo-Anne Billinger. Jo-Anne was a parishioner and choir member here at St. Nicholas for many years before following the call to ordained ministry. Are you planning on attending Rev. Alison’s Induction at St. Martin’s on Sunday September 22nd? St. Martin’s has contacted us, and they have limited parking, and are arranging for overflow parking (with a bit of a walk to the church). We will be renting a school bus to take us all there and back with no parking concerns. If you would like a spot on the bus, please sign up on the bulletin board. We expect the cost to be about $10 per person. Why has the response to the readings changed? Through the season of Pentecost, the Reader’s proclamation “The Word of the Lord” has been changed to “Listen to what the Spirit is saying to the Churches.” The phrase “Listen to what the Spirit is saying to the Churches” comes from the Book of Revelation. It serves as a reminder and witness to the power of the Spirit at work in our life calling us to new awareness of God’s word, activity and salvation. Have you ever wished you had the opportunity to be a Server, Crucifer or Torchbearer? If this is something you have always wanted to do, or even if you haven’t really thought about it before, this is an invitation to any parishioners to speak to Rev’d Janet by phone or e-mail at jrh@stnicholasbirch.com. The time commitment would be once every 3 or 4 weeks. Toward Healing and Reconciliation: Three evenings of Listening and Learning at the Church of The Redeemer (162 Bloor St. W) Wednesday September 25, Thursday, October 3rd, Thursday October 10. The Aboriginal Issues Working Group invites you to participate in three powerful evenings of learning to deepen our understanding of the issues of Residential Schools, that hopefully will lead to a place of healing and reconciliation. Flyers are available on the Manderley bulletin board.
