Relca® PD-805 is the next generation of a matting resin developed by Stahl. It is a 100% clean resin: no formaldehyde, no amines, no solvents, no heavy metals content that allows Relca® PD-805 to be well positioned in the market as a matting agent able to fulfill high restrictive legislations that many coatings have
to overpass nowadays (HAP’s).
When added to wood, metal and plastic, coatings not only become harder and more durable, their anti-blocking and wetting abilities are also enhanced.

17. Chemical Resistance
Relca® PD-805 does not have porosity particles, therefore, chemical stains like ink
and coffee show better performance than with other conventional matting agents.

19. Blocking Resistance
Keeping surfaces separated.
It is well known that matting agents improve blocking resistance. Relca® PD-805 at
same matting level works better than organic and inorganic matting agents, although
values for the inorganic one are also good.
Blocking Resistance Test Method
300 Wet microns of product (formulated
with suitable coalescent, thickener and
defoamer) are applied on Leneta chart.
After 16h drying at room temperature,
50 x 50 mm strips are cut, stacked face
to face and left at 50ºC for 2h under a
pressure of 0.2 kg/cm2.
The force needed to separate the two
strips is measured with a dynamometer
and value given in Newtons (N).

21. Adhesion
Improving the surface attraction.
Relca® PD-805 improves the molecular interaction of water-based coatings with
substrates, resulting in better adhesion because hydroxyl groups interacts with other
chemical groups (i.e. oxide, hydroxyl or carboxylic groups) on multiple substrates.

for 10’, 20’ and 30’ and check adhesion every 10’. Organic and inorganic matting agents
delaminated after 10’ while Relca® PD-805 not.
22. Anfeuerung
Wood coatings that use Relca® PD-805 are easier to apply, adhere better, and last
longer. It can improve the penetration and wetting on wood coatings and also give
desired "solvent-based" look, so-called anfeuerung.

23. Weak Points Relca® PD-805
Whitening. Relca® PD-805 is highly recommended to be used as a
matting agent for rigid substrates. Flexes can cause whitening.
24. Water & Ethanol Double Rubs Resistance
Coating surface (in terms of losing matting effect) using a 2K acrylic system with
Relca® PD-805 is extraordinary lasting. After 2000 double rubs water 1kg of weight
pressure, no change in the shade surface. Also using Ethanol 48% it can resist more
than 200 double rubs with 30% Relca® PD-805.

25. Abrasion & Micro Scratch Resistance
Tougher surfaces last longer.
Abrasion and micro scratch resistance are key in the water-based coatings industry.
Better abrasion and micro scratch resistant coatings last longer and require less
frequent recoating.
Rota Hub Scratch Test
In this procedure 1kg Hammer covered in Scotch Brite pads and moved linearly fifty
times across a surface area. In this case, too, the loss in gloss is used for evaluation.
Using between 20-30% Relca® PD-805, gloss
loss after micro scratch test is minimized.
26. Pencil Hardness
Relca® PD-805 improves hardness of coatings – making them tougher and
more durable. As a result, coatings can better resist knocks and scratches
giving lasting performance to the coating system and higher protection to
substrate full stop at the end.
