NHS activity and performance summary: February and March 2019

  2. 2. A&E performance against the 4 hour target decreased this month, and more patients spent longer than 12 hours in A&E. The number of patients waiting over 8 weeks for diagnostic services decreased and the number waiting over 14 weeks for therapy services also decreased. The percentage of patients waiting less than 26 weeks from referral to treatment increased and the number waiting longer than 36 weeks decreased. The average number of daily referrals received increased over the month. The percentage of patients starting treatment within the target time decreased for patients on the urgent pathway and for those not on the urgent pathway. Average daily calls to the ambulance service decreased compared to last month; performance met the target, but was slightly slower. The number of delayed transfers of care increased this month.
  3. 3. 85.2% of patients newly diagnosed with cancer via the Urgent route started treatment within target time (62 days), down 0.3 percentage points from January. 97.5% of patients newly diagnosed with cancer not via the Urgent route started treatment within target time (31 days), down 0.3 percentage points from January. Referral to Treatment Times February 13,272 patient pathways had been waiting over 36 weeks to start treatment in February, a decrease of 868 since January.

NHS diagnostic and therapy service waiting times February 3,458 patients were waiting over 8 weeks for diagnostic services in February, a decrease of 534 compared to January.

  8. 8. Ambulance services March The percentage of red calls arriving at the scene within 8 minutes in March 2019 was above the 65% target but down 1.2 percentage points from 72.4% in February 2019.
