6. WHAT IS MICROSOFT EXCEL?
Microsoft Excel is a computer software program
compatible with multiple operating systems. It used to
build and manage data, spreadsheets and workbooks. Its
main features are:
Tables
Graphs
Charts
Calculations
Pivot tables
Macro-programming via Visual Basic for Applications
(VBA)
7. THE IMPACT OF EXCEL ON MODERN
DATA COLLECTION AND MANIPULATION
• 1985 – Microsoft Excel introduced on the market
• Currently – Most-used spreadsheet program worldwide
• Used for formula-based calculations and other mathematical functions
In his article “Microsoft Excel For Teachers - Ideas for Using Microsoft Excel Worksheets
in the Classroom”, Fareed Siddiqui, PhD, explains
“Teachers can extract several benefits from Excel worksheets in
the classroom. […] [P]reparing lesson plans, grading papers,
creating graphs or tables and many more can be carried out
effectively and efficiently by using Microsoft Excel Worksheets
(2014).”
