The new governing coalition has pledged to continue improving access to government-held data as part of its 'Big Society' initiative. It says it will increase access to government-held data "through a 'new right to data' for citizens to ensure government data is published". The government also said, "We will ensure that all data published by public bodies is published in an open and standardised format, so that it can be used easily and with minimal cost by third parties.“ Specific proposals include; Require all public bodies to publish job titles on line of every member of staff. All councils to publish meeting minutes and local service and performance data. All councils to publish items of spending above £500 and to publish contracts and tender documents in full. The aim is for Bristol City Council to follow the model set by authorities such as Lichfield, London and Kent to create its own open data portal.
