Position - 5th Generation offshore Systems Engineer (Instrument tech/Electrician/E.T)
Duties - As Systems engineer I was expected to take a lead role over the electricians and maintain the
Instrumentation and cyber systems.
Electrical Duties included preventative and reactive maintenance in the following areas.
GE switch gear (generate switching plans as required), Gutor UPS, HVAC (including recovery,
repair, vacuum and re-gassing), air compressors (planned and lead project to convert from relay
logic to PLC controlled), AC motors and Vacon variable frequency drives, Caterpillar emergency
generator, Lighting, portable appliance testing and Forklift truck.
Systems engineer duties included preventative and reactive maintenance in the following areas.
SCADA system (cLink/iFix), Siemens step 7 and Allen Bradley PLC’s (This also entailed writing
new code for additional equipment or to improve the efficiency of existing), all pressure, flow,
level and temperature instrumentation (Including calibration and installation), Gas analysis
equipment (Calibration and repair), motor vibration analysis, Profibus, fibre optic and Ethernet
communications, ensure all servers and PC’s remained operational and all CCTV equipment.
General duties also required to maintain critical spares and sourcing/purchase of parts for projects.
Familiarity with SAP, generate and maintain results databases for all testing. Calibration of all
instrumentation and test equipment.

Period - April 2006 to December 2012.
Position - Offshore Senior Electrician (Cat B CEP)
Duties - Preventative and reactive maintenance of all electrical and instrument equipment within the
drilling scope. I am familiar with all systems pertinent to that scope, such as Seimens S5,
Mitsubishi PLCs, Bauteil SCRs, GEC Alsthom Gemstart 3, ICIS intelligent motor control, Varco
and Maritime Hydraulics equipment. Liaise with 3rd
party vendors and ensure installation safety
procedures are followed. Perform supervisor stand in duties when required.
The main drill floor equipment I have experience with on this platform is DDM (MH-650-DC-
2M), Drawworks (National 1625E), Mud pumps (National 14-P-200).

Position - Service Engineer (Multi-disciplined).
Duties - To maintain and repair all drilling package equipment supplied by Maritime Hydraulics. This
required mechanical and electrical fault finding and repair on equipment such as Hydraulic and
electrical Derrick Drilling Machines, Pipe handling equipment, Access baskets etc.

Period - October 1997 to August 2005.
Position - Electrician then Engineering Team Leader.
Duties - Electrical and instrument installation, maintenance, calibration and repair of production machinery
and ancillary plant such as Plastic injection moulding equipment, Robotic equipment, Coating and
slitting machines, ultra sonic welders etc. During my time here I was responsible for several new
process equipment installations including the writing of the PLC programs. Supervise the
installation and commissioning of new equipment by in-house and third party teams. Supervise
maintenance team and ensure effective maintenance routines are developed and instigated and all
company safety procedures are followed.
