Will the International Business World Learn Chinese?
OR

English Language Education in China
Despite the Importance placed by Central Government on the English, The Language Knowledge performance is poor and is really struggling.
Beijing is placing a strong emphasis on learning English. It's estimated there are now 90,000 native English teachers in the country, and that
the private English training market exceeded 5 billion US dollars in 2014.
Advancing to the highest levels of education also requires strong English skills, with 25% of the Gao Kao Score being based on English
proficiency, and universities and employers outright denying some applicants who don't test well enough in English.
Many National & International reports declare that Chinese Students Excel at Learning English Grammatical Structure through rote
memorization, however they nonetheless struggle to speak the language orally due to a lack of emphasis on conversation &
Vocabulary Comprehension.
What is Rote Memorisation Learning? – It is a Repetition Learning Process that involves mechanical repetition of something so that it is
remembered, often without or completely disregarding a real understanding of its meaning, significance or creativity of application.
English Language has to be recognized as an important tool for engaging in:
Scientific International Integration, Economic Development, Commercial & Technological Co-operation Cultural Exchange
With the rest of the Western World and hence for facilitating the modernization process of China as an Economic Global Super-Nation.
75% of Chinese Population believes that better English skills amount to unquestionable success. Lacking English skills have also stymied
Chinese researchers' ability to collaborate with colleagues worldwide. Only 12% of published scientific studies in China cite international
collaboration, compared to over 60% in higher English proficiency countries like Sweden, Poland, Germany and Denmark.
Most Chinese regard proficiency in English as a national as well as a personal asset (Cortazzi & Jin, 1996; Adamson, 2001; Hu, 2002a; Jin
& Cortazzi, 2003). On the national level, English language education has been viewed by the Chinese leadership as having a vital role to
play in national modernization and development.
Currently, China is an exam-based society, only those who make the highest scores are the ones who "succeed" in life. This results in
rampant exam cheating (test cheating is a national sport in China).
Obsession in Chinese Education System with the preparation for Tests such as CET Band 4 and CET Band 6, neglect to cultivate the students
Skills of pronunciation, comprehension and communication. Western Universities have a concern and complained that most Chinese students,
who attend to study at their campuses, have passed CET Band 4 and even 6, but they couldn't speak, write, or understand well in English.
Chinese children are found to lack creativity & Imagination as a result of the national obsession with Rote Memorisation learning.
It Kills IMAGINATION & CREATIVITY in Children & Students.
Rote Learning Creates next HUGE PROBLEM for Chinese Education System.
Despite the fact that Chinese students start at early age learning the English Language, there is widespread criticism of the teaching and
learning techniques. Schools in China are evaluated and financed based on test results. This causes teaching to be geared towards the test
skills. Students focus on rote-memorization (written and oral spelling repetition) as the main learning strategy. These methods, which fit very
well with the Chinese way of learning, have been criticized as fundamentally flawed by Western Educationalists and Linguists.
Furthermore, newly learned words are seldom put into use in speech or conversation.
Global English Proficiency Index (EPI) earlier this year, ranked China near the bottom of all tested Asian countries and in the bottom third of
th
all countries ranked globally. As low English Proficiency country, China landed as 11 lowest of the 12 Asian countries and regions ranked.
The report believes that Chinas' rote education system is not well suited to learning foreign languages, and that Chinese government need to
address the issue if they want to see English Proficiency rise.

d) English Language Program Development Team
CHALENGE
Education of English Language predominantly the spoken one, has to be recognized as the most important tool for China to engage in
Economic Development, Commercial & Technological Co-operation, Scientific International Integration and Cultural Exchange with the rest of
Western English Language Education Specialists concluded that, In general, the Chinese teachers have a weak grounding in pedagogy,
lacked professional competence for the English Language Education and know very little about recent developments in foreign language
international education. The teachers themselves agree that there was an urgent need for them to upgrade their professional competence.
On the individual level, proficiency in English can lead to a host of economic, social and educational opportunities; that is, it can
provide access to both material resources and 'symbolic capital' (Bourdieu, 1991) for the betterment of personal well-being. For
example, it is a passport to higher education at home or abroad, lucrative employment in a public or private sector, professional
advancement and social prestige (Hu, 2002b, 2003; Jiang, 2003).
SOLUTION
1. Forget about Tests.
2. Include Creativity of Application in Rote Memorization Learning.
3. Start Teaching Chinese children 2 years old and up how, to speak
English, even before they learn how to read it.
4. Don't worry about spelling, 80% of native English don't know how
to spell however, they can talk in English. Chinese students know
how to spell but they don't know what they are spelling, what does
it mean and they can't talk.
OPPORTUNITY
Great Commercial Opportunity exists for Magic Koala English
Language Institute to modernize and transform Chinese English Language Education System. Utilizing Native English Early Childhood
Educators of Foreign Languages, to facilitate, adopt and develop advanced English Teaching Programs, Technics and Methods to implement
and train Chinese Teachers how to teach young children to speak English. Commercial implementation of the above findings in existing
government and private kindergartens and development of new Bilingual Kindergarten under the umbrella of Magic Koala English
Language Institute.

the Western World therefore, facilitating the modernization process of China as an Economic Global Super-Nation. The upmarket technics will
place less stress on “reading” “spelling” and “writing”, in favour of “listening” “conversation” “pronunciation” and “meaningful comprehension”.
Not All about Rote Memorisation Learning is Evil, Memorisation can be Good however, it has to be
combined with the Understanding of Meaning, and Creativity of Application.
