The blog and all four activities focus on the topic ‘The Environment’. Each of the
tasks challenges the student to learn about the power of images, text, animation
and, not less important, imagination through the use of web 2.0 tools to create
different presentations with the aim of persuading the audience (their families,
classmates, teachers and the rest of the school community) about the dangers
of pollution so that our lifestyles start changing towards a more environmentally
sound behaviour.

This web 2.0 tool produces orchestrated video pieces from photos, video clips
and music. In a fast and easy way, you can turn your simple photos to videos
including text. A free video only lasts 30 seconds so eight is the recommended
number of photos to be included. After the the video has been created, you can
share it by e-mail with your friends, upload it to youtube or even to your own
blog or wiki.

Animoto is particularly useful because it adds animation to simple photographs.
Students’ and teachers’ projects can benefit from it by making them more
appealing through the addition of a video instead of plain images. The fact that

it is easy to learn how it works adds up to it and makes it a useful and
entertaining tool to use in the education field.
Activity 1:
Pair work.
Let’s use Animoto to create a 30-second video with powerful images that will
impact the audience and leave them thinking about what and how we can start
changing the way we treat our planet our and STOP POLLUTION.
Objective/s and content: to create a 30-second video using text and up to
twelve images. The video must include a sound track and be embeded in our
blog for a class presentation.
Assessment criteria: Present your video to the rest of your classmates who will
give you their peer review by posting a message on the blog. The teacher will
evaluate this production individually and then give you an overall mark for your
four presentations.

This tool allows you to express yourself through drawing, writing and speaking.
You only have to register to be able to create your own works of art online. The
mouse and keyboard on your computer are required to draw and add text to
your sketch. You can record your voice while you create your sketch by allowing
the microphone and loudpeakers. The sketches are recorded while you work on
them and once they are finished you are allowed to publish them. Later, you
can view them as videos!

Activity 2:
Individual work.
We are going to use this Web 2.0 tool to create a sketch about the importance
of reducing, reducing and recycling.
Objective/s and content: By means of a sketch using this tool, you are required
to create a slogan to promote REDUCING, REUSING and RECYCLING. The
sketch must include drawing and text and could or could not incluce the
recording of your voice.
Assessment criteria: Present your sketch to the rest of your classmates. You
will be assigned two peer reviewers who will post their messages on our blog
for you. The teacher will evaluate this production individually and then give you
an overall mark for your four presentations.

Eslvideos is a Web 2.0 tool which allows you to choose any video you like from
the web by copying the embeded code and then create a listening
comprehension quiz or a grammar quiz based on it. It only requires you to
register and the rest is not only easy but also completely for free!

Pair work.
Let’s use Eslvideos to create a listening comprehension quiz related to any
environmental problem.
Objective/s and content: Watch one of the following videos on Youtube, choose
one you like and create your quiz. Your video must not be longer than five
minutes and it must contain explanations. Prepare a listening comprehension
quiz, providing a minimum of three and a maximum of five questions. There
must be only one correct answer for each question.

Assessment criteria: Pairs will exchange their quizzes and solve them. After
that, they will provide their peer review on our blog based on the quality and
content of the video and the accuaracy of your questions. The teacher will
evaluate this production and then give you an overall mark for your four
presentations.
WORDLE www.wordle.net
Wordle is a tool used for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide.
The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the
source text. You can tweak your clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color
schemes. The images you create with Wordle are yours to use however you
like. You can print them out, or save them to the Wordle gallery to share with
your friends.

Activity 4:
Individual work.
Objective/s and content: You must create an advertisement in Wordle using
isolated content words that can be related to the topic “The Environment”. The
words included do not need to be organised in any particular way because the
effect desired upon the reader is to make them create connections among the
words.
The ads will be printed out to be displayed at school and they will also be
published on our blog.
Assessment criteria: After printing the Wordle documents, the class will take a
vote on them to choose the best advertisement. As well as with the previous
three presentations, the teacher will assign an individua mark to this production
and finally she will give provide you with an overall mark for all four
assignments.
