Note: E - estimates
A study by National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom)-Deloitte shows that the contribution of the IT/ITes
industry to the country's GDP has gone up to a share of 5% in 2007 from a meagre 1.2% in 1998. Software exports from India
have increased and account for about 60% of India's total software revenue.
It is estimated that IT exports from India will touch around US$175 billion and the total revenue of the sector will be US$225 billion
in 2020. Besides being a key driver of global economic growth, the industry has been continuously providing massive employment
opportunities to millions of people across the country.

slowdown
and its impact on the
Indian
IT industry
16. A recent study by Forrester reveals that
• 43% of Western companies are cutting back their IT
spend and nearly 30% are scrutinizing IT projects for
better returns. Some of this can lead to offshoring,
but the impact of overall reduction in discretionary IT
spends, including offshore work, cannot be denied
• The slowing U.S. economy has seen 70% of firms
negotiating lower rates with suppliers and nearly 60%
cutting back on contractors. With budgets squeezed,
just over 40% of companies plan to increase their use
of offshore vendors
• The IT services and outsourcing market is currently
undergoing a structural transformation that will have
a profound effect on how IT service providers will
have to conduct their business
Customers have started to reduce project scope and /
or postpone new development. However, they are
also trying to move more work to lower cost offsite
locations, which could increase IT budgets towards
tangible cost saving measures.

quarter, Infosys got close to 37% of its revenues from
BFSI. This slipped to 34% of revenues in the March
2008 quarter. In the quarter ending December 2008,
BFSI showed a sequential growth of 4% in volume
•Wipro - India’s third-biggest software exporter, and
Cognizant, ranked sixth, have seen revenue from the
key Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI)
vertical rise by about a fifth between Oct-Dec 2007
andJuly-Sept2008
•April-June2008,Cognizant recorded the highest
growth from financial services vertical among the
offshore peers. This was mainly due to the type of
financial services clients in the portfolio and the
multiple operating levels (table above)
•TataConsultancyServices, for example, earned 42%
of its revenue in the second quarter of CY 2008 from
the BFSI
Impact of exchange rate on revenues
In IT sector, the margins are likely to be challenged
on account of the slowing growth in the US. Rupee
depreciation seems to be the only tailwind that the
sector enjoys. This can be evident from the fact that the
out of the increase in the IT export revenues for FY 2008
over FY 2007, almost half of the increase could be
attributed to the rupee depreciation during the same
period.
Pricing poised for decline in favour of volumes
Pricing has been difficult in this sector compared to
other sectors: On an average, the US financial sector has
driven bulk volumes through lower onsite pricing, higher
offshoring and aggressive volume discounts. It is safe to
infer that BFSI application business margins especially in
the top companies are a few percentage points below
the higher margin verticals like, say, energy. Hence,
a replacement of financial services business with
business from other verticals is likely to positively
impact the bottom line. A speedy replacement is
however, easier said than done.

20. I am very well aware of my talent and skill set. I know
that I am unable to write coding and develop projects
based on the customer needs and I am weak in
communication and logical thinking too……..
21. Prerequisites to become a networkprofessional
A networkadministratorshould have a strong background in math,
sciences, and computerscience, as well as experience working with
computers. Although a college degree in computerscience, systems
science, math, orengineering is not required to become a network
administrator, advancement is difficult without one.
Administrators should be familiarwith a variety of networkoperating
systems, including Microsoft, Novell, and Unix. Because computer
technology changes rapidly, administrators must constantly upgrade their
knowledge base.
22. Network administration requires good organizational and logical thinking
skills, both to set up and administer a network and to diagnose and solve problems.
Administrators must be able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines when
required. Because they may have to work with users who have little or no technical
knowledge, they must be able to communicate complex and unfamiliar ideas easily.
Several companies that produce network software also offer training and certification
in network administration.
25. adVantage of Vendor
CertifiCation
Certification demonstrates that a certified individual is
•more productive
•able to solve problems faster
•more confident with their solutions
•more professional in the workplace
•more respected by clients by showing that they have the most current
knowledge appropriate for the IT industry and this often aids to a salary
increase.
Salary surveys reveal the power of professional certification to boost
income when compared to vendor certification. ICCP certifications result
often in 10% to 20% increase in salary.
Many professional associations report between $14,000 to $15,000
differential between those certified when compared to those not
certified. Vendor certifications result in $4,000 to $5,000 increase
between those certified and those not.
26. Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer
The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) credential is the premier
certification for professionals who analyze the business requirements and design
and implement the infrastructure for business solutions based on the Microsoft
Windows® operating system and Microsoft Servers software.

class training on Microsoft networking and developer technologies. The
courses aggressively prepare students for degree tracks and certifications that
lead to careers as network administrators, programmers and system managers.
The Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certification helps validate that an
individual has the comprehensive set of skills necessary to perform a particular job role,
such as database administrator or enterprise messaging administrator. MCITP
certifications build on the technical proficiency measured in the Microsoft Certified
Technology Specialist (MCTS) certifications. Therefore, you will earn one or more MCTS
certifications on your way to earning an MCITP certification
27. The CCNA exam is the qualifying exam available to candidates pursuing a single-exam option for the
Cisco Certified Network Associate CCNA certification. The CCNA (640-801) exam will test materials from the

Networking Technologies (INTRO) course
CCNP- The Building Converged Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks
(BCMSN 642-812) is a qualifying exam for the Cisco Certified Network Professional CCNP and the Cisco
Certified Design Professional CCDP certifications. The BCMSN 642-812 exam will certify that the successful
candidate has important knowledge and skills necessary to implement scalable multilayer switched
networks. The exam includes topics on Campus Networks, describing and implementing advanced Spanning
Tree concepts
CCIP certification validates an individual's detailed understanding of the diverse networking
technologies in the service provider arena, including IP routing, IP quality of service (QoS), BGP, and MPLS.
CCIP candidates demonstrate skills in a range of functions from planning to troubleshooting service provider
networks.
28. A+ Certification is a CompTIA-sponsored testing
program that certifies the competency of entry-level computer
service technicians.
A+ certification signifies that the certified individual
possesses the knowledge and skills essential for a successful
entry-level (6 months experience) computer service technician,
as defined by experts from companies across the industry.
The program is backed by major computer hardware and software vendors, distributors, resellers and

39. The average annual salary for a network administrator during the
first decade of the new millennium was $85,000. Starting salaries
currently begin at $45,000; compensation for network
administrators with substantial experience and advanced training
in specialty fields ranges as high as $140,000 per year. These
figures frequently reflect a work week well in excess of 40 hours
since network administration is almost always a salaried position
rather than one compensated on an hourly basis.
Total compensation packages are higher than the figures stated.
As salaried employees, network administrators typically enjoy
benefits such as sick leave and vacation days, as well as medical
insurance and retirement packages.
45. Network administrator jobs are often advertised in
newspapers,
computer industry magazines
Internet job banks.
Some firms may offer to pay for the training of interested employees,
because those individuals are already familiar with the company's needs.
