  • With the launch of XTM v10.0 in October last year we introduced our initial integration with TAUS DQF. This first phase of the integration sent translator productivity data to the dashboard. Now at the end of 2016 we released XTM v10.1 which included an enhancement to the integration to send results of LQA tests preformed in XTM. So today I would like to describe to you how that integration works and the benefits it brings to XTM users.
  • So what are the benefits of using XTM and TAUS together?

With the XTM TAUS DQF integration you can track the productivity of your linguists and compare the results against industry averages. With this information you can improve the planning of your localization projects and make more informed decisions. Identify productivity bottlenecks and overcome them with training or new tools for your localization team.

You can evaluate the quality of your translations with the Dynamic Quality Framework. Analyze the reports to find the best translation providers or continuously develop the competency of your internal team.

And as you make greater use of machine translation and post editing for high volume documentation projects you can run comparative MT tests to choose which MT engine best suits your needs. Keep an eye on the performance of the process, increase the throughput and reduce translation costs by using the most effective MT engine.
  • You can enter the configuration details at 3 levels

Firstly at the system level. This is the default account that will be used if no other accounts have been created.

You can then disable the TAUS integration for selected customers or store a specific customer’s data in a separate TAUS account by editing the TAUS settings in the customer record

To store the data sent to TAUS for specific users then enter their account details in their XTM record.
  • Project data sent to TAUS includes:
    Name
    ID
    Date/time created
    Source language
    Target languages
    Workflow
    The number of segments
  • XTM sends an email to the translator telling them they have a new task which they can view in their task list.
  • As the translator is working within XTM Editor, for each segment we send the source and target text to TAUS DQF, and the time spent on the segment
  • XTM automatically emails the QA expert when the translation is complete and they can perform the LQA task.
They log on and select the task.
  • In the LQA step of the workflow there is an additional section for each segment that can be expanded to show the error categories.
  • When the corrector spots an error the select the issue from the hierarchical list clicks on the severity which are represented by the blue, orange and red buttons.
The error details are then stored in XTM and sent to DQF
  • When the quality specialist has finished they can download an LQA report as an Excel file from XTM.
  • The LQA scores and punctuality results are stored in XTM in the linguist’s record.
  • These settings are used when the system or customer decision is made only on system or customer level) are configured to use TAUS and LQA is selected in the workflow editor.
  • Productivity
    Words per hour
    Percentage of segment origin
    Normalised Edit distance
    Time spent per language
    Time spent per segment origin
  • Quality
    Percentage of segments with errors
Error density per language / Errors per 1000 words
    Weighted errors per language
    Errors per category and severity
  • Allowing to choose different options for different projects/customers
required by TAUS (for now we set default values)
to indicate when the document should be treated as wrong/poor (TAUS API gives such possibility but we could also build it into XTM).
