UN PROGRAMA DE CINE Uno de los pocos políticos coherentes del país
de los carros robados y los corazones contentos repetía tres veces una
palabra poco valorada tanto en la política como en la cultura: programa.
Porque cumplir promesas siempre es más difícil que tomar atajos,
porque esos contenidos de calidad suponen un esfuerzo que no siempre
se quiere realizar, que algunos negocian. Cuando no mienten directa-
mente, a sabiendas. Y la vida sigue igual. Aunque sea un escándalo.
Tenerife Shorts aspira a marcar diferencias desde su programación, con
una serie de obras que definan el festival. Y este programa cuidadosa-
mente seleccionado entre la producción mundial del cortometraje, de
calidad contrastada o como una apuesta arriesgada, cuesta más que ir a
la tómbola.
Sabemos que no se estila. Que un evento internacional a veces es rela-
tivamente internacional. Que, también en cultura, el programa puede
ser lo de menos, basarse en obras de poco calado, refritos o no tener
relación alguna con el evento en cuestión. Durante cuatro días proyecta-
remos en competición una quincena de estrenos en España, de los que
algunos de ellos son también estrenos europeos o internacionales. Y ese
logro sólo es posible desde el conocimiento, el entusiasmo y el esfuerzo
del equipo de Tenerife Shorts.
No queremos ser menos por estar más lejos o por no contar con apoyos
donde se toman las decisiones en la isla. No valen las excusas. Tenerife
Shorts simboliza una ilusión. Sin padrinos, sin red, pero sabiendo que el
público va a apreciar el trabajo realizado al crear un festival de cine en
la ciudad, modesto por presupuesto pero al máximo nivel en contenidos.
En esta segunda edición nos hemos mudado al otro lado del puente, nos
alojaremos en el Teatro Guimerá gracias a un acuerdo con el OAC, sin
duda, el marco perfecto para un festival de cine. Y esperamos que sea
nuestra sede por muchos años.

A PROGRAM OF CINEMA One of the few coherent politicians from the
country of stolen cars and pleased hearts constantly repeated three
times a word little valued in politics, such as in the cultural field:
program. Since to keep one’s word is always harder than taking short-
cuts, because those contents of quality suppose an effort which is not
always easy to make, and some people will never make this effort. When
they don’t lie directly, fully aware that life remains the same. Even if a
scandal bursts.
Tenerife Shorts aims to make a difference with its program, with a series
of works that define the festival. And this program has carefully been
selected from a list of world-wide short film productions of contrasting
quality as a risky bet, harder than raffling. We know it’s not stylish. We
also know that an international event is relatively called international.
Again, in the cultural field, the program could count less, based on
works of little quality, repetitions, or without being related to the event
in question. During four days we will project in the competition more
than a fortnight of premieres in Spain, some of which are also European
or international first releases. And this thing couldn’t have been possible
without the knowledge, the enthusiasm and the efforts of the Tenerife
Shorts team.
We don’t want to be outdone because we live farther away, or because
we don’t count on support from the ones who are in charge in the
island. Excuses don’t count. Tenerife Shorts symbolises an illusion. It is
a festival without sponsors, without a support system, but knowing that
the audience will appreciate the work done to create a film festival in
town, modestly financed, but of great quality of content.
Starting this second edition, we have moved on the other side of the
bridge, we are hosted by the Theatre of Guimerá thanks to an agreement
with OAC, a place which is, without doubt, the best framework for a film
festival. And in the end we expect it to be our venue for many years.

María Victoria Pérez Afonso (Las Palmas de
Gran Canaria, 1963). Licenciada en Ciencias
de la Educación por la Universidad de La
Laguna, compagina su vida profesional como
docente con su entusiasmo por los proyectos
culturales, en especial por todos aquellos
vinculados al cine. En octubre
de 2007 entró a formar parte
de la Asociación de cine
Vértigo, colectivo que preside
desde mayo de 2012. Bajo su
mandato, además de garan-
tizarse la continuidad de las
actividades que ya organi-
zaba la Asociación (como
su cine fórum mensual en el
CICCA o Ibértigo – Muestra
de cine iberoamericano de
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria),
destacan la consolidación
de Colón Cinema, programa
mensual de proyecciones de cine iberoameri-
cano que tiene lugar en el Museo Casa de Colón,
el Ciclo de Cine Japonés, y de Visionaria,
Concepto de isla, una Muestra – Concurso de
cortometrajes que busca generar un foro de
debate intelectual sobre Gran Canaria a través
del cine.
María Victoria Pérez Afonso (Las Palmas de
Gran Canaria, 1963). She holds a Bache-
lor’s degree in Education Sciences from Uni-
versity of La Laguna, she mixes her profes-
sional life as a teacher with the enthusiasm
for cultural projects, especially for all that
are linked to cinematogra-
phy. In October 2007 she
became part of Asociación de
cine Vértigo, an organisation
she leads since May, 2012.
Besides continuing the activ-
ities which the organisation
has done before (for instance,
the monthly cinematography
forum at CICCA or Ibértigo - a
Latin American Film Show-
case at Las Palmas de Gran
Canaria), stand out projects
such as the consolidation
of Colón Cinema, a monthly
program of Latin American screenings which
take place at Museo Casa de Colón, the Series
of Japanese Cinematography and Visionaria,
Concept of the Island, a sample, yet compe-
tition of short films which tries to generate a
forum for intellectual debate regarding Gran
Canaria through cinematography.

Mahmoud Reza Sani es un cineasta iraní. Ha
realizado más de 60 cortometrajes, documen-
tales, reportajes y series de televisión. En 2000
fundó Arvandan. Su debut en el cine, Siyamo,
una canción poética de paz
que cuenta la búsqueda de su
amada en la devastación de un
Afganistán Posttalibán ganó el
gran premio Cesare Zavattini
en el Festival Internacional de
Cine Pobre Primero en Gibara,
Cuba, en 2002. Ha impartido
varios talleres de cine por el
mundo y ha sido miembro del
jurado en festivales de cine de
varios países. En 2010 fundó
la Escuela Internacional de
Cine de Viajes y Creación,
ITACFIS. Es también el autor
del libro En obras: Lecciones cinematográficas
de Abbas Kiarostami. Mahmoud fue también
el Presidente del Festival de Cine Ibn Arabi
(2010-2013, IBAFF, Murcia, España).
Mahmoud Reza Sani is a filmmaker from Iran.
He has made more than 60 short films, docu-
mentaries, features and tv serials. In 2000 he
founded Arvandan. His debut film, Siyamo, a
poetic song of peace that tells
the search for his beloved in
the devastation of a post-
Taliban Afghanistan won the
Cesare Zavattini grand prize
at the First International Cine
Pobre Festival in Gibara,
Cuba in 2002. He has been

María González-Calimano Espinosa realiza
estudios de FP II Imagen y Sonido, en la espe-
cialidad Realización de Programas de Televi-
sión. Se dedica a la fotografía
profesional y trabaja como
foto-fija y en producción con
varias productoras audiovi-
suales. Ha sido comisaria de
varias exposiciones de cine y
fotografía. Primer premio del
Certamen de Videocreación
de Canarias (1989) con el
vídeo Shoe Love. Premio al
mejor cortometraje canario
en el II Festival Interna-
cional de Cine Digital de La
Palma (Festivalito 2003) con
el vídeo Historia de Lucía.
Desde 1993 trabaja en la Filmoteca Canaria,
entidad de la que es responsable desde el
año 2005.
María González-Calimano Espinosa studied
Image and Sound, specialising in Television
Production. She works in photography as a
stills technician and is a pro-
ducer with a number of audio-
visual production companies.
She has been the organiser of
a number of film and photo-
raphy exhibitions. She won
first prize in the Canarian
Video-creation Competition
(1989) with the video, Shoe
Love. She won the prize for
the best Canarian short in
the Second International
Festival of Digital Cinema in
La Palma (Festivalito 2003)
with the video, Historia de
Lucía. Since 1993, she has been working at
the Canarian Film Archive, of which she has
been the head since 2005.

Sinopsis
Omar, un obrero de la construcción, recibe
un extraño mensaje de voz en su móvil. A
pesar de que nadie habla en el mensaje, él
alcanza a escuchar la melodía de una canción
en medio del ruido de la grabación. Desde
ese momento, Omar inicia una búsqueda
para encontrar el nombre de la canción en
un intento de recordar la vida que alguna vez
tiene con su familia.
Omar, a construction worker, receives a
recorded message in his cell phone from an
unknown caller. Even though nobody speaks
in the message, he vaguely recognizes the
melody of a song amidst the noise of the
recording. From that moment on, he will
start a search to find out the name of that
song in an attempt to remember the life he
once had with his family.

Un joven fotógrafo y su ayudante sugieren
fotografiar a nómadas tibetanos. De trasfondos
diversos, más o menos exóticos, las familias
se presentan al fotógrafo. A través de estas
fotos, el fotógrafo tejerá vínculos únicos con
cada uno de los distintos pobladores.
A young photographer and his assistant
suggest to Tibetan nomads to photograph
them. On diverse and more or less exotic
backgrounds, families present themselves to
the photographer. Through these shots, the
photographer will weave unique links with
each of the various villagers.

Sinopsis
2065. El planeta entero sufre los efectos del
cambio climático. Uno de los pocos sitios
que aún quedan habitables es la Antártida,
donde grandes multinacionales construyen
ciudades privadas. Hebe y Ciro vuelven a
estar juntos. Ella busca el amor. Él busca su
propia identidad.
