  1. 1. Hi! I am Tahani Tahmid. I have a little brother who is in class 6 and a cousin in class 9. Even a few days back, they had to do their classes and coaching online. So from their experience, I got to know about the major problems in online classes and coaching that hampers the overall contribution of these. I have given my suggestions keeping their experiences in mind to make “The Online Batch” of 10 Minute School a 10 on 10.
  2. 2. Distractions For kids giving attention to something boring like study is already difficult and the attention span is even less in online classes and there’s easy chances of distractions. Lack of Recognition The amount of confidence boost children gains while being praised in a classroom full of students knows no bound. However, in online classes students can hardly gain the feeling of recognition. As a result their urge for doing well and studying hard decrease due to lack of incentives. Isolation Children feel lonely and isolated in online classes. And this issue is even more in coaching because children rarely know their classmates. So there’s no sense of competition or scope for improvement. Lack of engagement As the attention span is even less in online classes, soon the students feel bored and get distracted by other things like scrolling, playing games etc. Problems of class 6-8 students in online class
  3. 3. • Distractions • Isolation • Lack of recognition • Lack of • Impossible to cover all topics in class Due to lack of time and other issues, it is almost impossible for any teacher to cover everything in class for a senior class like 9/10. • Application of learned topics As the topics in higher classes are more difficult, mere understanding of them is not enough if the application is not shown. However, due to time constraint, the applications are not possible to be shown in class. Problems of class 9/10 students in online class
  4. 4. Along with the existing features, I have given some suggestions that might enhance student engagement and experience Solutions:
  5. 5. B e f o r e c l a s s j o u r n e y - S u g g e s t i o n s .  Notifications about upcoming tests, quizzes, homework etc. along with class notifications so that students can prepare well for them  Provide an updated calendar with all classes and deadlines so that the students can stay on track and can manage their schedule accordingly.
  6. 6. In Class Journey (Suggestions) G a m i f i e d l e a d e r b o a r d Tr a c k i n g I n v o l v e m e n t i n c l a s s Group Work
  7. 7. Group Work  For both groups of students, group work can be a very effective step. It not only increases engagement, reduces sense of isolation but also students get to know and apply the ideas of all students together which brings out the best outcome and create a longer lasting impact.  This can be done by creating breakout room and giving similar problems taught in class or creative questions etc.  Students will be given specific time to discuss among themselves and after that one student from each group will be randomly asked to discuss with the rest of the class.
  8. 8. Gamified Leaderboard  The leader board will be constantly present at one side of screen from the begin of the online class.  The leaderboard will be updated continuously for any kind of progress like joining the class in time, giving correct answers, engagement in class and group work etc. At the end of the class the whole screen will display the leaderboard.  This type of gamification will improve student’s engagement and enthusiasm for doing class.
  9. 9. C h a t r o o m s Separate chat rooms can be created so that students themselves can discuss their problems and get to know each other. C e n t r a l h u b A central hub can be maintained where students can informally share their own notes, ideas, resources related to course etc. This will be especially effective for students of class 9-10. After class Journey After certain intervals like week or month, learners earn virtual rewards (Badges and Experience points) for their overall performance in the total period of time. V i r t u a l r e w a r d s
  10. 10. T r a c k i n g A b s e n t e e i s m For children of class 6-8 it is very important to ensure their attendance so that they do not miss certain lesson which may hamper the upcoming lessons. For this reason, it is necessary to track their absenteeism and inform their parents about their attendance. As students from different schools would be present, it is likely that they would have exams in different time. Before exams some students might need problem solving or extra help. A provision of help line before exam or based on necessity special class for a group of students can be included. After class journey H e l p l i n e b e f o r e e x a m
