Structure of a wiki
Wikis are structured by chapters, sub chapters, and pages. The landing page of the wiki (directly on the group tab)
provides a structured overview of the entire wiki. The wiki description is displayed above the first chapter along
with the title of the wiki.
At the top of the wiki you have links to manage the
chapter and page order and edit the wiki.
New wiki pages can be created from this overview
and assigned to an existing chapter or create a new
one.
Main chapters are highlighted in blue, sub chapters
are displayed within their main chapters with a light
gray background, and a preview of each page’s content is displayed in line.
Direct links to view “more” of the content on the
page or to go directly in to edit the page are available up front for each wiki page.
Chapters and sub-chapters can be expanded or collapsed from this overview. Simply click on the chapter name to expand/collapse.
The “mini table of contents” is displayed on the left-hand side of the wiki. Chapters, sub-chapters and pages are all
hyperlinked so you can access them directly from the table of contents. This can be used for quick navigation to/
from any page or chapter in the wiki.
Chapters are bold and displayed with an arrow icon to
indicate the pages and sub-chapters contained within
them.
Sub-chapters are also bold and displayed with an arrow
icon, but are further indented under the main chapter
Click the main Chapter (ie. Wood Coatings Interface
Workshop) to view all sub-chapters and pages inside
the main chapter.
Click a subchapter to view only the pages in that single
subchapter.
Click a page to view and edit that page by itself. All
group members have permission to edit wiki pages and
chapters.
Create a page
From the main wiki tab, click the button “Create wiki page”
Since a wiki page is not limited to a specific printed page size, it can be used for as much content as is needed. The
page “titles” acts more like a divider between sections within the chapter or sub chapter.
The title will automatically be displayed in the mini Table of Contents. The body text can be pasted from other
sources such as website or word documents. Basic formatting tools are provided for bolding, text alignment, headers, sub headers, inserting table and images.
If copying from other websites, images will be automatically inserted to the body fields.
Insert Images
There are two ways to add images to your wiki page.
1. To embed an image directly from another online site, click the
Image icon
to open the Image Properties. Once you have found
the image online, copy the image URL (displayed on the top of
the browser or by right-clicking the image) and paste into the field
‘URL’ in the Image Properties box.
The two fields “width” and “height” can be used to adjust the size
of the image as it is displayed on the wiki page.

2. To upload an image from your computer or another source, scroll down to right below the body field.
Click “choose file” to browse your computer. When you have picked the image, click “upload”.
Once the image is uploaded the
button to Insert in the wiki page
will appear.
The image will automatically be
inserted in it’s original size. If you
need to change this, you can resize
in the Image Properties
Layout - text & images
Image alignment can be used to wrap text on the left or right side of the wiki page. Set the alignment by rightclicking the image and accessing the Image Properties.

Vertical and Horizontal spacing (displayed as Vspace and Hspace in the Image Properties) can be used to ensure
that there is adequate spacing between the images and where the text wraps.
Insert Tables
Tables can be used for more advanced layout option.
In this example we will show you how to use
a single-columned table to create a simple
time-table for an event as displayed in this
sample.

To begin, click the table icon

to open the Table Properties box.

Set the number of Rows you need and 1 Column. Additional rows and columns can always be inserted later.
Rick-click a cell to access the Cell Properties. Here you can set the background color, custom border color and
choose the alignment for text and images inside the cell.

Add in the text and save.
Formatting options
Some in-line formatting options are available when creating wiki pages.
The Format dropdown gives you options for changing to various heading styles, ‘Normal’
text format and the ‘Normal(DIV)’ format. The DIV format has smaller spaces between
lines and paragraphs, while the default Normal is a full paragraph spacing.

Option to bold, italics, underline, or strike through text.
Option to set the text alignment left, center, right or justified.
Cut or copy selected text.
Paste from word (will keep most formatting), Paste (regular), and Paste as plain text (best
used when copying from other websites to remove unwanted background or text colors).
Insert tables, insert images.
Add or remove hyperlinks from text & images.
Bullet points and numbered lists, advanced options available to select types of numbers
(ie. Roman, Alpha, Decimal etc.)
Type of bulleted lists options. Circle, disc, square.
Increase/ decrease indent.
Set paragraph text as block quote.
Comments
When viewing a single wiki page, you are able to leave comments and reply to other members’ comments. Comments are displayed in-line below the wiki page. Any member of the group can leave comments on the wiki page.
Revision tracking
Every page has full revision tracking and comparison. You can revert to any previous revision. Move the radio buttons around to select two revisions for comparison and click “show difference”

The two revisions will be displayed with changes highlighted in red. The current revision is displayed inline below
for further comparison.
Chapter & Page order
The wiki chapters, sub-chapters and pages can easily be reordered. Pages can be dragged and dropped into new
chapters, or move a whole chapters with all their pages and sub-chapters in one click.
Pages are identified with an icon, chapters can be edited or deleted here. Deleting a chapters will not delete the
pages contained within.
