Description:
The Massachusetts Teachers' Retirement Board (MTRB) provides retirement,
disability and survivor benefits for the state's 130,000 active and retired public school
educators. It maintains financial and demographic data for all members’ districts, reported
monthly by over 400 public school and charter schools.
The MTRB e-Retirement system has been designed as a fully integrated information
management system with a Web browser front end that enables MTRB to meet increasing
demands by providing the highest quality service to all active and retired members, as well
as external customers. This system also provides robust security measures, better backup
facilities, cost reduction, maintenance, routing via email/ fax etc. and addresses other
imperative issues currently problematic to MTRB. The system is a “web based business
application” based on 3-tier architecture having Web based client (HTML), Application server
(Web logic Server 7.0) in the middle tier and Host (Sun Solaris machines). The middle tier
comprises of EJB components (EJB 2.0), which use the application server to interact with the
host. The system is supported by Oracle 10g database.
