Using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel limits your ability to model your system across the entire lifecycle. Innoslate goes beyond these tools and offers a single source of truth. At our webinar, "Go Beyond Microsoft Office With Innoslate." Dr. Steven Dam shows you how Innoslate will improve your system by performing more than Microsoft's tools can.

5. Do you use Microsoft Office for
systems engineering?
• The simple answer is yes. We frequently use
this set of publication tools to develop
documents, create presentations, and make
complex calculations.
• Why do you use it? Because it’s likely a set of
tools available to you. It may be the only set of
tools available to you.
• So, what is Microsoft Office missing?

6. What are its limitations for systems engineering?
• Each MS Office tool was designed to support the publication process
• Word to create the documents
• PowerPoint to create graphics (diagrams/models)
• Excel to make calculations
• Project to manage the program tasks
• In systems engineering we do all these things too, but we also do much more. We…
• Analyze and derive new requirements and maintain traceability.
• Conduct functional analysis to understand the processes & derive more functional
requirements.
• Conduct simulations to derive performance requirements.
• Conduct risk analyses.
• Note: It’s not that you can’t do many of these things in MS Office; it’s that it takes so much
longer when you don’t have a fully functional SE tool and becomes much more difficult to
verify and validate in the design phase.

7. How does Innoslate replace Microsoft
Office for systems engineering work?
• Most of us have been using Office for many years and young
professionals have grown up with it.
• When we designed Innoslate, we wanted to provide some of
the functionality of MS Office but be able to export to Office
for publication.
• Innoslate views that provide Office-like functionality.

8. Documents View vs. MS Word
• Innoslate’s
Documents View
enables the user to
create and manage
many different
document types
using built-in and
custom templates.

9. Documents View vs. MS Word
• In each document
type, the user can
create Statements and
Requirements that
contain text/graphical
information.
• It also provides for
reuse, traceability,
requirements quality
analysis, baselining, …

10. Documents View vs. MS Word
• You can even
autogenerate key
diagrams to
enhance
understanding of
the document
content.

12. Diagrams View vs. MS PowerPoint
• Innoslate’s Diagrams View
enables the user to create
and manage many different
diagram types.
• Innoslate follows rules that
enable the auto-generation
of other diagram types from
data provided in a diagram.
• Many diagrams come with
rule checkers and other
diagnostics.

17. What else can Innoslate do that MS Office can’t?
• Discrete Event and Monte Carlo simulation of complex dynamic
models that include cost, schedule, and performance factors
• Test Center with Test Suites that contain Test Cases with status
roll-ups
• Branching and forking
• Redaction
• Compilations View provides means to view any entity type in a
document-like form
• Direct integrations with GitHub (round-trip), MATLAB, and STK

18. How do Innoslate and MS Office work together?
• MS Office features not contained in Innoslate
• Innoslate exports to MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project.
• Use MS Office to create the “pretty” publications you need.
• Store the results as Artifacts in Innoslate. You can use the same
Artifact that contains the Innoslate entities to store the “final”
product.
• Innoslate also provides a “round-trip” with MS Excel.
