This presentations is about the lessons that I have learned as I sought to reach my dreams. This also discusses my insights on why we should continue dreaming.
2. Presentation Outline
• Lessons I have learned
• Why Still Dream?
• What I Dream of
• Conclusion
3. Lord, saan ako pupulutin?
If I will be asked how difficult my ordeal has
been, I would say that I came to this point:
I can still remember very clearly that day when
the day before payday, I only had Php 60 in my
pocket.I came to my office just before lunch
time, and as I entered, it was as if a voice
whispered to me, “Do not buy food, someone
will offer.” I said to myself: “What are the
chances that that would happen?” So, I bought
food, and just as I finished eating, someone
really offered food!
That afternoon, I went to Ortigas to meet a client. I was so hungry and the only thing
that I could buy was the Php 5 yema. I felt so sorry for myself. Moreso, when I looked
up, I saw a billboard which read: “Praise the Lord”.
Much to my anguish, I said, “Lord, I cannot!” I just wanted to cry because despite the
anguish, my gut would tell me, just continue going on, chase that dream!
4. I have my share of hardships
I really dread the days when I would wake up in
the morning to see how hard the rain is
pouring. Even with my umbrella, I would be so
soaked when I reach the end of our street.
Worse, during rainy season, commuting can be
such an ordeal. Ramdam na ramdam mo na
dukha ka. Whenever the jeeps would come, all
those people waiting would race for a seat.
Much worse, while soaking in the rain, a vehicle
would suddenly speed in front of you and
splash water all over you.
I once joked to a friend that you’ll know if a
person doesn’t have a car if their umbrella is a
big deal to them. They would even comment
about the design, durability, etc.
5. I had my BIG QUESTIONS
Why did I have a very difficult life?
Why did God give me a father
who made our lives very
miserable?
God knows how much I pondered
on these questions with so much
anguish.
Why did God give me this very big
capacity to dream if I won’t ever
reach them? Why did God not
just give me a small mind so that I
will be just content with what I
have?
6. Why I created this Slideshare account
I don’t think that at the moment, my life has
the making of a material worthy of a
Maalaala Mo Kaya episode. But I am at that
point where things have made sense and I
am very sure that I will live a successful and
fulfilling life.
I do not however intend to be a success
guru. But I just want to share the lessons
that I have learned in my quest for reaching
my dreams.
They say: What profits a man if he gains the world and loses himself in the process?
While dreaming big is still essential to life, for me these are the most important:
1) God and my integrity
2) Good relationships with my family and the people around me
3) Eating three meals a day and simple pleasures
In the end, for as long as these things are in my life, I have much to be thankful for.
If I will have to lose any of these just for that big dream, I am not interested.
7. #1 - It’s Not About You
Ephesians 2: 10 - For we are God’s
handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to
do good works, which God prepared
in advance for us to do.
Jeremiah 1: 5 – Before I formed you in the
womb, I knew you, before you were born I
set you apart…
8. Only the inventor of an object knows exactly what
an object created is intended for. Before the Lord
started our lives, He saw our full potential.
Psalm 139:16- Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your
book before one of them came to be.
The Lord allows hardships in order to mold our
character. He is more interested in the formation
of our character rather than our comfort. I must
admit that this lesson can be very hard to swallow.
9. # 2 - No earthly dream can make you
100% happy. It can even complicate
your life.
Being in a position of power and
wealth can make you a target for
people who will want to pull you
down and/ or steal from you.
A very high position can involve
threats to your life.
Be happy with your simple life. A simple life is
the most worry-free life that you can live.
10. # 3 - Having the Right Foundations
This includes our
• Integrity
• Values and Convictions
• Strength of Character
• The Quality of our
Relationships
Will you still stand tall when
tested?
Where do you anchor your
personal security and
happiness?
12. #4 - Relationships and Values are more
important than Money and Results
Success can only give you much satisfaction. But if you defy
relationships just for that gain, you will never have peace.
In the end, it is only our family who will be there for us, no
matter what.
13. # 5 - No matter how difficult it is to
love them, your family is your
greatest blessing.
My father made our lives very miserable that it made me question
God’s goodness. Had it not been for him, I would not have learned
valuable lessons that have made me successful in my personal life and
career. Had it not been for my father, I would not have a ministry.
14. #6 - Experiencing Unconditional Love
and Acceptance predisposes people
to being grateful for whatever they
have.
No amount of success or money can
fill that void.
15. My Nephew, Andrew
Over the years, I have invested a great deal of
time with my 7 year old nephew Andrew. I
would visit him often and play with him. His
favorite thing to do is to race with me.
As he grew up, I noticed that my investment
yielded a great degree of influence on him.
He would laugh at my jokes as if I’m the
funniest person in the world. And indirectly, I
was able to teach him about money and
material things.
Andrew, will you still love Tita even if I don’t
give you anything?
Yes Tita
Why?
Because I love you!
Tita, my birthday is in May. Visit me everyday
and that’s your gift to me. Okay?
16. You know, Andrew, my client called today and told me
that he will invest Php 1,000,000. But since I
remembered that I promised to visit you, I told him
that I will meet him next week. Remember, that you
will always be more important =)
17. # 7 - Surround Yourself With Good
Counsel and Good Role Models
I am thankful for the fact I am
surrounded by people who are
successful in the family and
personal life and careers. I am also
thankful that I belong to a church
where there are many God-centered
families and good role
models.
They listen to me whenever I need
someone to talk to.They do not tell
me what I want to hear.
And because I look up to them, I
follow their advice.
18. #8 – Enjoy your daily life and its
simple joys
Ecclesiastes 5: 19-20
When God gives any man wealth
and possessions, and enables him
to enjoy them, to accept his lot
and be happy in his work---this is a
gift of God. He seldom reflects on
the days of his life, because God
keeps him occupied with gladness
of heart.
Act as if you can be happy even if you dream
will never come…
21. Dreaming leads us to seek God…
Jeremiah 29: 11- 13
For I know the plans I
have for you, declares the
Lord, plans to prosper you
and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope
and a future. Then you
will call upon me and
come and pray to me, and
I will listen to you. You
will seek me and find me
when you seek me with
all your heart.
22. What I Dream of
• That the Lord would always give
us the grace to keep our family
happy, well provided for and
edified. This can be such a big
challenge nowadays.
• That my God-given talents and
abilities would be used to the
fullest and for the good
23. • That I will be able to make
significant contributions to the
society
• That I will become a good role
model to the people around me
• To be able to Travel and see God’s
beautiful Creation
24. No Matter How BIG You Become,
Always Remember…
• Where you started
• All the people who have
helped you, especially
your family.
• How God took care of
you and how He has
always been faithful to
you
• THAT YOU ARE MERELY
GOD’S SERVANT
25. Love God with all your heart and put
Him above all things…
Even if you will never get your dream.
