We use a coaching style of consulting
to assist stakeholders in identifying
the causes of their concerns and
crisis. The 5Echo team agree the
‘rules of engagement’ covering all

For too many, consulting is mistakenly a short
conversation before a project commences, but
not with 5Echo.
Consulting is the all-important foundation for
any successful project. It is not only a time for
rapidly building a sustainable relationship
based on trust, but also a time to identify and
agree key critical information needed for the
success of the project. Keeping an open mind,
listening to understand both emotions and
points of view, and asking appropriate
questions designed to identify information and
confirm understanding, are all key to ensure our
mutual success.
After each meeting our consultants will
summarise the key points from within our
meeting to ensure that our interpretation of the
discussion is aligned with yours. We will then
follow up with a written summary via email
along with the agreed Action Items. Normally
this will be within 24 hours of the meeting.
5Echo consultants may also call upon a range
of diagnostic assessment instruments
appropriate to the assignment. However, this
will, of course, only be with our client’
permission. It may even be appropriate to call
up our vast network of Strategic Alliance
Partners to assist with special needs. In our
experience, the consulting process is unlikely a
once-off initial event. There is usually a need to
revisit items as the project progresses as new
information or unforeseen crises occur. We
believe in sustainable learning partnerships to
ensure long term success of any project.

Coaching may occur for a number of reasons. It may
be required to assist with highly performing
individuals in time of personal or work-based crisis,
or it may be required to assist people to improve their
own performance so that they can progress in the
organisation. Whatever the reason, coaching has
been proven to be beneficial if applied appropriately
by qualified and experienced coaches. Unfortunately,
there is still a great deal of confusion around
coaching and how it should be applied for the benefit
of the individual and the organisation.
At 5Echo, we define coaching as “a trusting
conversation where an experienced coach helps the
person being coached to clarify their goals and
challenging their plan to achieve them.” Coaching
works on a blend of motivating, energising, decision
making, co-creating plans and integrating results.
We believe that the coaching is a business
relationship built on creating independence. We also
believe that coaching must demonstrate tangible and
sustainable improvements in the client. It is business
focused and ensures that the individual’s
improvement impacts positively in the business and
the team. Coaching can also be in a 1:1 situation as
well as in groups or teams, depending on the
outcomes required of either intervention.
To achieve this, we consider that the fit between the
coach and the client is mandatory if mutual trust is to
be achieved between the involved parties. This is
critically important to ensure that true feelings are
expressed, information is openly shared and for
when the pressure is applied in the coaching
relationship. To maximise this, 5Echo coaches are all
certified coaches and bring with them considerable
business and life experience. They use these
attributes assist the coaches to navigate through any
resistance, conflict, negativity and blame, to emerge
from the coaching with clarity, commitment and a
clear plan of action.
We will generally provide the organisation and, if
appropriate, the respective individual being coached
with a selection of available 5Echo coaches. Once
shortlisted, the stakeholders meet to ensure that
there is a fit between those involved and before a
final decision is made as to who the most
appropriate coach may be. The coach may be
augmented or replaced during the coaching
assignment at the request of the client organisation.
Our coaching assignments are bound by mutually
agreed rules which are tailored to each project and
confirmed in writing.

Ever wondered whether a person possesses the

external candidate over others? Alternatively,
where the ‘talent’ is within your organisation and
where it is not? These dilemmas are faced by
many leading organisations on a regular basis,
however, those same organisations often lack
the internal capability to address these issues
successfully.
5Echo believes in promoting the promotable,
employing the employable and focusing staff
development budgets where they will have the
most impact for your business. All of this
requires a ‘fact-based-approach’ using a
formally agreed assessment process based on
expected workplace performance activities.
Our consultants are experienced in the conduct
of Assessment Centres designed to provide you
with a level of comfort in the often difficult
choices you need to make. In essence,
Assessment Centres take the guess work and
emotion out of the difficult employment related
decisions.
5Echo consultants will visit your workplace to
obtain background information including the
reason for the Assessment, job information and
workplace competencies to be assessed. They
will take this information away and produce a
plan for your comment and eventual approval.
We generally find that the Assessment will
include a range of activities rather than simply
one. Most common of these are technical
assessments, role plays and interviews. The
complexity, duration and content depends on
the role for which the person is being assessed.
In our experience, the number of candidates in
an Assessment Centre varies from one to more
than 100.
A formal report is provided to our clients after
the final assessment which highlights strengths
and areas of perceived weakness. In addition,
we provide Individual Development Options for
each candidate if required.

The core of Team 5Echo met in a leading
international airline group - all passionate about
people development. We are like the 'A' Team in
Aviation - very experienced (totalling about 100 years
with 3 entrepreneurs consulting globally out of
Brisbane, Sydney and Singapore) but with our own
quirky skills. We work as a team to listen to our
clients, echo their reality and desired futures, and
partner to co-create a way to get there through a
variety of on-the-go interventions.
While in the Middle East - like the sifting sands of the
desert, things change very quickly. Working for the
fastest growing (ambassador of the nation) airline in
the world at the time, we learnt that The Plan is a
series of Contingency Plans. When we are deployed
to work with any station or team in the business (with
over 8 subsidiaries diversely ranging from FMCG for
Luxury Brands - the group’s Duty Free subsidiary;
Customer Service & engineering - the group’s
Aviation Services; Luxury and mass catering; Airport
Operations and Customer Experience - the Group’s
Hub and International Airport; the budget airline
subsidiary ...... list goes on), we may have to drop
everything and go! We are experts at helping people,
processes and the organisations they are in,
transform under crisis. We are all experts in our
personal lives at one level or another in evolving for
the better under pressure! We are experts at Re-
modelling our Reality towards a Desired Future.
We had planned for the most senior in our team -
Mark - to resign and set up in Bangkok as our base
(he has his strongest network there), and for the
remainder to deploy as projects build that require our
services. The other 4 were to stagger our joining as
the company grew with Mark.
As the Universe has it - since we bode well under
crisis - Yvonne was exited from her contract earlier
than expected and became the first to leave the
group. She decided to aim for Kuala Lumpur (being
more familiar with the culture and had very solid long
term network she could quickly activate from there) -
as our epicentre of global activities (all of us had
global clients) that was within 8 hours' flight time
from majority of our client network - from The Gulf to
Australia/NZ , SEA, Asia Pacific including China and
the Far East.
