The document summarizes the process of downsizing an office space from 750 square feet to 12x12 square feet over a weekend. It involved extensive culling of books, using Ikea furniture for storage solutions, converting to ebooks for space savings, and elbow grease to organize the smaller space. In the end, the document indicates the smaller office space is functional despite the author's exhaustion from the downsizing process.
3. The old office- part 2
The “library/office” space- 10 foot high storage and bookcases. This pic
is kind of an optimistic fib- this is what it looked like after staging and
sadly not what it EVER looked like on a daily basis.
4. Somehow I had to fit all 750sq ft of
that into this 12x12 space:
6. Then started culling. Lots of culling.
This is 1/3 the books that went…
ultimately there were 2 carloads.
And all of this was in the
drawers and cabinets
7. Ultimately, I determined there were
three things crucial to success.
#1- Ikea. We don’t have one in New Orleans, but we have a
service that picks orders at the Houston store and delivers them
for a fee.
I didn’t think to get pictures of the stacks of boxes but
love the warning: best assembled in the buff with a buddy?
8. #2. I resisted this for years, but the
time has come.
I’m usually the techie in
the house, but my
husband’s had one of
these since the first
generation. I’ve been
the holdout, but in the
name of being able to fit
in my office, I’m going
to have to convert.
On the other hand, I
can see it being
addicting to get the
Sigh.
book you want that
second…
9. #3- There’s no substitute for elbow
grease
I’m exhausted at the end of the weekend, but seem to
have what appears to be a functional space.
10. Now I don’t have any excuse! Back to work tomorrow.
Ah well.
