The document discusses feedback received from intended audiences on creative works. For a horror trailer, surveys found that the target audience of 15-25 year olds preferred isolated lake settings, knives as weapons, and typical teen characters. Feedback on early cuts of the trailer suggested filming more shot types and changing font colors to red for a more horror feel. Incorporating this feedback led to a more successful final trailer. Similar feedback improved a magazine cover design and film poster. The creator found this feedback invaluable for meeting industry standards.
2. PLANNING
Before we created our horror trailer we handed out surveys to our targeted
audience which was people aged between 15 and 25; this allowed us to
understand an idea of what people of our age group would want to be
included in horror films. We mainly wanted to focus on the genres of
horror, weapons and location that people would feel would be most
3. FEEDBACK FROM QUESTIONNAIRE
From our feedback we found out a lot
about our intended audience, one thing
being that they are structuralist as their
favourite location would be an isolated
lake which is a very stereotypical setting
for a horror trailer. Therefore we
decided to set our trailer round an
isolated lake. As well as this we chose a
knife as our weapon choice and a
conventional group of teens as the
characters.
4. FEEDBACK FROM TRAILER
During our editing stages we constantly asked our media group
(people of our intended audience) and our teachers for advice on
how to improve our trailer. We received a lot of feedback to help us
improve our trailer some of which included:
• Going out and filming more shots as they didn’t feel was enough
shot types throughout the trailer. They recommened filming for
extreme close up shots as these are used frequently in horror
trailers.
• We were also told to change the font colour of our tone cards to
red against black as this portrays the horror genre more and adds
to the gore aspect.
We took on this advice and
proceeded with these
improvements and feel that the
trailer became more successful
due to this, as we were able to
make a sequence of fast quick
cuts when the moment of
disequilibrium arose.
5. FEEDBACK FROM MAGAZINE COVER
When I finished my first draft
of my magazine cover I was
given advice on how to
improve it, this was:
• Make the strap line at the
top smaller and move the
title up so less of her face
is covered.
• Change the colour of the
background as grey isn’t a
colour Empire use.
• Darken the colour of the
cover lines as the yellow
is slightly too bright.
• Add more text into the puff
to fill the space more.
6. AFTER FEEDBACK
I took on the advice
from the first draft of my
magazine and changed
it completely to match
their advice. I feel this
improved my magazine
and made it look more
professional. The blue
background makes all
the other colours stand
out and the title being
moved up makes the
eye contact with the
audience more
prominent.
7. FEEDBACK FROM POSTER
The advice I received from my film poster was:
• Move the image down, and the critic review to
the top to fill more of the black empty space.
• Change the links at the bottom to red to match
the ‘or’ on the title.
I took on this advice and
changed my poster, and feel it
turned out really successful and
am really please for the overall
out come as I could see my
poster along side industry
standard film posters. The final
outcome is presented here.
