1. PREFACE
__________________________________________________________________
The European school needs to use technology to teach children and future European citizens how
to access and respond to different contents on the Internet and computer in a responsible and safe
way. The Internet and the computer have become new mediums nowadays which belong in our
everyday tasks and almost everyday activities at school, such as the use of didactic games on
computers for students or daily e-mail scanning for teachers.
Therefore, teaching about the safe use of the Internet and knowledge of the dangers are crucial in
our role as teachers in schools. For this purpose, we had set the aim of our partnership among
Slovenia, Spain and Turkey: to raise awareness and teach all students to use computers in a safe
and responsible way with different activities, as we named our project Think before you click. We
also engaged other teachers and parents to take part in our project.
A comparison of the state of Internet safety and drawbacks in all partner countries and integrating
the theme in all school’s work plan were the starting point of our partnership tasks. It also helped
us to set activities that would enable the students to have a more active part in the process as they
will help each other and the adults too. This common ground demanded the use of different
methods to achieve our goals: debating, creating posters, interviewing, organizing different
workshops (for example, students help to teach the elderly or younger students to use computers
and the Internet), etc. while sharing new teaching methods, exchanging good practices or solutions
to problems and materials with other teachers from the project, disseminating the results to other
colleagues, parents and wider community.
In all schools participating in the project, we had realized that we did not yet have fully adequate
written policies about online behaviour at school, the safe use of the Internet and steps or others
measures taken to deal with dangers on the Internet. For that reason, we created an e-Behaviour
code for schools which set standards to follow a certain netiquette and rules while using any data
processing machines and online networks in our schools.
Simultaneously, we made sure that our project would connect people of different ages, cultures,
languages and countries, deepened the ties between all of them and thus bridge the generation gap
successfully. Moreover, the project provided a unique opportunity for students to broaden and
improve their knowledge about Europe, different countries and languages. They were also able to
interact with peers and adults from different parts of Europe and thus got a very close view of what
European citizenship and cooperation is all about. We also think that the project helped students
to embrace the idea of Europe as a unity and to learn how to respect and appreciate social and
cultural diversity in Europe too. It also helped them to develop different organizational and
interpersonal qualities and skills which will be of key importance in their future lives and careers.
This bulletin is the final product of our project and cooperation. It contains the results of the
project’s activities, documents, analyses, photos and pictures. Consequently, we know that the
results will help us in our future work.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone that has participated in our project: our head teachers,
teachers and colleagues, students, parents, representatives of other institutions and everyone that
helps us to realize the goals, activities of our theme and project.

2. PARTNERS IN THE PROJECT
__________________________________________________________________
Primary school of Rodica, Domžale, Slovenia______________________
The school is located in the suburbs of the town of Domžale,
in the centre of Slovenia. This school year it is attended by
about 640 pupils, aged 6 to 15, from the local communities of
Jarše, Rodica, Vir and Domžale. In the last years the number
of migrant students from former Yugoslav republics and
Albania has been increasing. In addition, pupils with special
educational needs are integrated into regular (mainstream)
classes.
One of the school's aims is to provide a safe learning
environment in which staff and students can work together,
flourish and achieve high standards. Therefore, our students
are encouraged to participate in a range of extra-curricular
activities, projects, voluntary work and special programmes
for the gifted and talented pupils.
Moreover, our school has been an Eco, Unesco and Healthy
school for many years, which means we take care of the
environment and promote a healthy lifestyle. Our school's
vision is also to be a school open to the world.
In recent years, we have already participated in many
international projects: ACES, Youth in Action, Comenius
Multilateral and Comenius Regio (from 2009 to 2011).
We believe that by participating in the Comenius project many
of our goals and vision can be met.
Primary school Rodica hosted two project Comenius meetings
in March 2013 and March 2014.

PRIMARY SCHOOL: CP SON CANALS, Palma de Mallorca,
Spain
Son Canals is a public school attended by 265 students, aged 3
to 12 (pre-school and Primary Education).
It is located in Palma de Mallorca (Balearic Islands), in an area
with a lot of immigration, especially from China, Morocco,
South America and Sub-Saharan Africa. In fact, a big part of
our students are immigrants (33%) and among the ones
considered to be Spanish (because they were already born here),
67% has immigrant families.
We use three languages to communicate at school: Catalan and
Spanish (both official languages in our community) and
English, but most of our students speaks other mother tongues
at home.
English is becoming more and more important every day in our
school curriculum. For this reason, participating in European
projects gives us the opportunity to go on working in this
direction, providing our school with a European dimension.
Students with special educational needs are integrated into
regular classes. Due to difficult social situations, we have a
bigger number of them each year.
We are also an eco-school, participating in projects related to
the environment care and have won some prizes.
We have participated in some International classes, as guests in
some European schools:
2011-12: A meeting in Munich (Germany) for a week (2
teachers and 6 students in the 6th
grade class participated in it)
2012-13: A meeting in Kuopio (Finland) for a week (2 teachers
and 6 students in the 5th
grade class participated in it).
Son Canals hosted two meetings in this Comenius project in
June 2013 and December 2013.

PRIMARY SCHOOL: 75.YIL İLKÖĞRETİM OKULU,
Bucak/Burdur, Turkey
75.Yıl Primary School is located in suburbs of Bucak/Burdur.
There are 32 staff serving 440 students aged 6-15. Most of our
students are from the disadvantaged areas of Bucak. These
areas are Üzümlübel, Alkaya, Çamlık, Seydiköy,
İncirdere,Dağarcık. In addition, there is also a class for
students with special needs and we have two teachers in
charge of their integration into regular classes.
In this project, we had hosted all the partners at the third
project meeting on the third week of April in 2013.On 23rd
of
April, we celebrated "Children's Day" which is an important
national feast for us. In this way our partners and their pupils
will learn how we celebrate our feasts and traditions.
Besides, we had arranged a picnic in which all the students had
taken part in actively, they had helped each other and they had
shared their own traditions.
75.Yıl Primary School hosted two project Comenius meetings,
in April 2013 and May 2014.

3. THE PROJECT THEME AND OBJECTIVES
__________________________________________________________________
The title of our project was Think Before You Click. The aim of the partnership ad project was
to raise awareness of children and the whole school community (teachers and families) about the
safe and responsible use of the Internet. With our project we drew attention to the dangers of the
internet and offered solutions on how to protect yourself against those online threats and ensure a
safe online environment. We had also informed all the participants and wider community about
the safe measures to be taken from now on, published them on the blog or stationery written
posters which were displayed around the schools and in our new e-behaviour code brochure.
The concrete objectives of the project were:
- to promote, ensure and raise awareness about safe Internet use with different activities and
reduce the risks on the Internet;
- to compare different kinds of violence, especially cyber ones among students with different
activities and programmes addressing all participants and to prevent all kinds of violence;
- to make an e-booklet titled " e-Behaviour Code" containing codes of behaviour on the Internet
(rights, duties and guidelines for a safe use) written by our students with the help of teachers and
other experts;
- to present the project results to a broader (European) community (we believe that every person
in the world can use our project results in combating cyber violence and feel safer on the Internet
– such as an e-booklet, results of the questionnaires, tips how to prevent cyber bullying etc.);
- to increase and intensify the feeling of being members of a wider community such as the
European Union;
- to ensure peer learning (learning from good practice experiences);
- to connect people of different ages, cultures, languages and countries, and to deepen the ties
between all of them;
- to promote respect and tolerance towards other cultures and to one another;
- to bridge the generation gap;
- to promote voluntary work, intergenerational help among students, teachers, parents, elderly
and the local communities;
- to involve parents and other adults in the school life and project activities,
- to develop a spirit of cooperation and friendship;
- to acquire skills in foreign languages and new technologies which are a necessity in current
times;
- to get to know other cultures and accepting thereby the European dimension;
- to enrich the educational offer of the school;
- to enhance interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills;
- to promote teaching with the use of ITC technologies;
- to enhance communicative language skills;
- to reinforce cooperation among schools involved in the project;
- to enrich the traditionally used methods of teaching;
- to exchange the experiences and pedagogical materials with other teachers;
- to participate in the project as an important milestone in the promotion of schools;
7
_____________________________________________________________________________________
- to promote European cooperation in education among students, their parents and local
authorities by providing others with information about the project (e.g. website, organisation of
different school events and workshops).
4. THE PROJECT ACTIVITIES AND OUTCOMES
(the results of the project)
__________________________________________________________________
COMPARISON OF THE STATE OF THE SAFE USE OF THE INTERNET
AND CYBERBULLYING IN PARTNER COUNTRIES' SCHOOLS
ANALYSES OF THE INTERNET SAFETY AND CYBERBULLYING
QUESTIONNAIRE FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS
The purpose of the online questionnaire at the beginning of the project was to determine the initial and the
real situation of internet safety and knowledge of drawbacks of the internet in all schools of partner
countries. The questionnaire included questions and giving opinions for students and parents about the
general use of computers and Internet, the safe use of the Internet and the dangers of Internet, including
cyberbullying.
The main results of all partners are published in this publication and in a separate document as an
international comparison. The questionnaires are available online:

J6dEsyQ3c6MA#gid=0 (questionnaire for parents).
The results in Slovenia:
In Slovenia, the sample was consisted of students from 6th
to 9th
grade and their parents, because this age
group uses more often computers and the Internet for various purposes, so the sample was more
representative.
Student results:
95% of Slovenian students of the Primary school Rodica have internet connection at home (and most of
them computers in their rooms) and 66 % use it every day, while 5 % do not have internet connection at
home.
8
_____________________________________________________________________________________
32 % use the Internet less than on hour a day and 24 % one to two hours per day. Most of students (65%)
use the Internet for social network sites and they are on these sites every day; others use it for
entertainment or playing computer games.
Most of students can help others to learn how to use the computer, internet or how to stay safe on the
internet.
However, most of them think they could not recognize dangers on the Internet; nonetheless, they do take
precautions (for example: they do no give personal information, they are careful about „fake“
profiles,…etc.)
59 % of students think you can get addicted to the Internet and most of them know someone who uses it
too much. Generally, they agree that there are better ways to spend their free time besides the internet:
meeting friends, playing sports, etc.
68 % of students have talked with someone (parents) about the safe use of internet, 59 % think they know
a lot about it.

Most of them stay safe with the help of other students and adults who teach them how to use the Internet
and mobile phones in a safe way (54% ) or by visiting Internet pages promoting the safe use of Internet
(45%).
Students shares their opinions about the use of the Internet and what they like or not about it:
Most of them think they have enough information about cyberbullying, but they do think there is a lot of
cyberbullying on the Internet, but almost half of them would like to learn more about it. 24 % of students
know someone who has been bullied on the Internet. 12 % have been bullied, usually by text messages.
They feel stressed, worried and afraid. For most of them, cyberbullying has lasted from one to two weeks
or even a few years.
They have also suggested different solutions to the problem of cyberbullying, like helping the victims of
cyberbullying, blocking the person who is bullying or telling parents about the problem.
Parent results:
Most of their children (89%) use the internet less than one hour per day, often instead of watching TV
(30%), but almost never instead of exercising or sleeping. According to the parents’ opinion, their
children’s favourite activities on the Internet are listening to music and social networking.
77 % of their children use social networking sites. Almost every parent have talked about e-safety with
their child.
10
_____________________________________________________________________________________
More than half of parents have enough knowledge about computers, the Internet; however, most of them
(72%) would like that the school provides education to parents, especially on topics:
 Cyberbullying
 How to set up privacy settings on social networking sites
 Impacts of media on my child’s behaviour
 How to help my child think critically about media
 Effects of media on my child’s health and development
32 % of their children have already talked to a person on a social network sites who they do not know.
Nonetheless, the majority of parents know the amount of personal information that their child displays on
their social networking profile page and they have checked their child’s digital footprint on a computer.
69 % of parents think that the teachers need better training to deal with bullying and also cyberbullying.
Parents are worried about any kind of violence, however, the most growing apprehension is about internet
violence. Nonetheless, their biggest concern is still physical violence.
Also, the parents propose some solutions to the problem of cyberbullying on the Internet. They propose to
help the victims with open discussion about the problems, preventive actions or reporting the bully to the
legal authorities. The punishments suggested by the parents are very similar to their propositions about
helping a victim of cyberbullying; however, they also encourage volunteer work to ensure that the
cyberbully will learn to help others.

The results in Spain:
In Spain, the 5th
graders and 6th
graders (10-12 years old) and their parents participated in this task, because
they are the eldest students in their school and use more often computers and social nets. Teachers in their
school considered the rest of students were too young to answer this questionnaire. It was a nice experience
for everybody because it became their first questionnaire online ever. Anyway, it has to be taken into
account that almost half of the Mallorca’s families of their school do not have internet connection at home.
For this reason this kind of activities cannot be compulsory at school.
Student results:
On the whole we received 58 questionnaires, but just 56 were valid.
Most of them were 11 years old, and they were more or less the same percentage of girls (27) and boys
(29).
CONCLUSIONS:
 Almost 80% has internet access at home and they usually use it in common places, such as the
dining room or the living room. Those who have not it usually use it through cell phones or
cybercafés.
 A great part of students (almost the 50%) uses internet every day and an important number of
them (27%), more than once a week. 60% uses it about 2 hours a day.

 57% of our students uses social networks more than once a week. We think it is a very high
number if we take into account they are illegal at this age. But the positive part is that almost
everybody knows all contacts there. The ones they do not know personally are usually famous
people like footballers.
 All of them have heard about the dangers on the internet, because since the project started, we
have been talking about it. For this reason, some police officers were invited to come to the
school to talk about it. 97% of students think that this talk was really useful.
 According to the results, they trust their parents. In case of a problem on the web, they would talk
to them first and also to a teacher or to a police officer.
 They think the most important advantages of internet are: being in touch with others (chats,
emails, Skype, networks,…). A lot of students are foreigners so they use it to be in touch with
their relatives; having fun (computer games, games, music, YouTube, films,…); having a big
information source where to find whatever they want.
 From their point of view, the biggest disadvantages are: virus; problems with the internet access;
hackers; unknown people being in contact in social networks,
 96% thinks there are lots of interesting things to do apart from surfing the internet: meeting
friends; playing with them; doing sports; going on excursions; …
 15% of our students has been threatened specially through SMS, but it was something which
lasted a week. Most of them thinks cyberbullying is a big problem these days. But at the same
time they think they have enough information to cope with this problem, although they would like
to go deeper in it.
For most of them, cyberbullying is related to students threatened other students. They are worried
about it.
20% of students know someone who has been threatened, 80% do not.
* Just 16% thinks they could be an internet addict in the future. In fact, 83% of students knows
somebody who uses internet too much.

In our school, a lot of parents are not used to new technologies. To be honest, we have to say that it was
the first time they did a questionnaire online. It has been a nice experience for them, but not many could
do it. Most of them were done by mothers.
Participants: 29 (23 mothers and 6 fathers). 13 were 5th
graders’ parents and 16 6th
graders’ parents.
CONCLUSIONS:
 Along the questionnaire, they have shown their worries about the dangers on the internet. In fact,
they have shown us their satisfaction about the school participating in this project. They are very
happy about it. According to them, they are really worried about dangerous people on the web
and about how easy it is to have an access to those pages for adults which are not appropriate to
them, especially the ones about sex.
 Most of them, 64%, confesses they are not ready to avoid these dangers. They do not have a
specific knowledge and would like the school to help them in this sense, especially at the time of
developing a critical use of it and installing safe systems at home. 96% thinks it is a great idea
that the school educates about internet safety.
 They said their children are connected to internet, but not too much. All of them coincided in less
than 4 hours last weekend.
 Just 7% knows about the fact that their children have talked to unknown people sometimes. We
suppose it is because the children explained it to them.
 68% knows their children use social networks and 12% knows they have had some problems with
them. 82% of parents is conscious about the great amount of information their children leave in
these places but they still allow them to use them.
 76% says they have talked about the dangers of internet with their children and 67% usually
checks what the children have been doing on the internet, revising the historical movements. Just
8% has found inappropriate information sometimes.
 According to their answers, a lot of problems could be avoided by: talking about them and
providing with more information; spending time talking to their children and supporting them;
giving them more education about these technological tools; …
 If there are other students in the school threatening others, most parents think: teachers should
talk to their parents very seriously and make them understand how harmful their actions are for
the victims. Some of them think they should be sacked.
The results in Turkey
234 students from 6th to 8th grades of the primary school in Turkey filled out the online questionnaires.
Most of them were boys (62%).
Student results:
The majority of students do not have internet connection at home (60%); however the majority of students
use the Internet once a week, one third of all students use it every day.
Most of students (63%) use Internet for homework. Other students use it for social networking (especially
Facebook), gaming and music. Nonetheless, they rather use mobile phones (51%) for communicating than
the Internet or Facebook.
The majority of students did not talk about the safe use of internet. However, if they would have problems
on the Internet, especially cyberbullying, they would talk with their parents.
Students have different choices about the use of the Internet:
14
_____________________________________________________________________________________
42 % of students know that there is a lot of cyberbullying on the Internet; however, the majority (58%)
thinks cyberbullying is not the most important problem on the Internet. The majority of the students think
that the most harmful violence is still physical violence, while at least 18 % think that cyberbullying can
be a harmful problem.
The majority of students have not been cyberbullied (95%), only 5% were.
Parent results:
88 % of the parents would like the school to provide education for parents about cyberbullying and
internet safety.
According to parents, Internet addiction is the most alarming danger among all violence.
The majority of parents (56%) had a conversation about e-safety with their children. In addition, 56 % of
parents have checked their child’s internet history and %15 have found harmful material in the web
history.
All the parents think that teachers should be better trained to deal with cyberbullying.
Parents have also suggested some propositions of punishment for cyberbullying: boot camps, counselling
or exclusion from schools.
15
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Questionnaire and feedback in the final phase of the project:
Students completed the questionnaire and gave feedback on their progress in achieving the objectives of
the project.
Pupils gave opinions about the proposed activities that would help them to raise awareness about
problems and cyberbullying on the Internet and provide them skills to use the internet in a safe way, to
behave online in a proper way and to use adequate steps to protect themselves against the dangers of the
Internet and other types of computer misuse.
The results in Slovenia:
78% of Slovenian students liked the proposed activities about internet safety and cyberbullying. Also,
98% of students think that rules on the Internet are compulsory. 41 % of students have used the rules that
were presented and taught in the school also at home. Learning about internet safety helped the students
to follow rules at home, as 57 % of students were more careful using the Internet at home. However,
others did not use the rules from the proposed activities at schools, because 56% of them already knew
and used the rules of internet safety at home.
Students’ ideas and propositions were used to create rules of school’s netiquette which were presented in
every classes and pinned as a poster in every classroom in the school. In generation gap workshops, older
students helped the younger students to use the Internet in a safe away and they taught them about the
dangers on the Internet and how to be careful when using a computer.
The results in Spain:
100% of our students liked a lot the proposed activities in this project. They gave several reasons. They
think:
 They were many and varied.
 They were interesting and some, quite fun.
 They were real. They were connected to the real world.
 They were useful to help them to become conscious of how important this topic is these days.
 They learnt new concepts and new measures to follow in the future to stay safe on the net.
 They learnt new ways to work in the future.
 They gave them a new opportunity to be in touch with other people of other countries.
16
_____________________________________________________________________________________
90% of students follows the new rules they have learnt in this project. All of them are now more
conscious of the dangers on the net, but some confess it is still difficult for them not to upload personal
photos on social nets. They still go on doing it, but they explain they are more careful with the content in
them. 5% confesses they still do illegal downloads.
When asking them about the most important knowledge they had acquired, the answers were:
 The legal age to use social nets and some of the most important dangers when using them.
 Some important rules to stay safe.
 How dangerous wifis with no passwords can be and how easy for a hacker is to get access to your
personals accounts.
 The need to use secure web pages: check they have the https code.
Students’ new knowledge was used to create a guide with 16 rules to help everybody stay safe on the net.
It was uploaded to our Comenius blog and explained to the school community in some meetings by the
students.
The results in Turkey:
All the students liked the activities proposed during classes and the project. Also, the majority of the
students think that the rules are important on the Internet and they follow them.
They learned a lot about internet safety and cyberbullying and especially steps how to protect yourself on
the Internet. Even though, cyberbullying is not an alarming problem in the school, they learned how to
behave on the Internet and to be aware of the problems on the Internet. Learning about internet safety
helped them also to be safe on mobile phones. They also discussed a lot about rules and appropriate
behaviour on the Internet and created rules of school’s internet safety.
COMPARISON OF THE STATE IN THREE COUNTRIES/SUMMARY
The conclusion of our analyses are:
 Students in all three countries use regularly the Internet.
 The percentage of daily uses of the Internet is the highest among Slovenian students.
 Most of the students in all three countries use the Internet for entertainment.
 The degree of cyberbullying in three countries presents a quarter of all the results.
 Students in Turkey did not have so many encounters with cyberbullying than in Slovenia and Spain.
 The activities in the project improved the quality of internet safety at all schools in this project.
 In all three countries, the majority of students stated that they learned a lot about safety internet and
how to cope with the dangers on the Internet with the proposed activities in our project.
 Students also created rules how to behave on the Internet and computers in general and especially
in their schools.
We have published the results in a new document as an international comparison of the state of Internet
safety for children and youth.

INTERVIEWS
Students interviewed other students of the partner's schools to get to know about more their involvement
in the project, their personal experience during project meetings, especially in international projects, and
knowledge gained from experience of the project activities.
Here is one of the student’s interview:
Why do you participate in this Comenius project?
Because we are conscious about how good this project is for us. It is a very good experience for the whole
school community.
Thanks to it, we can improve our English and be richer as European citizens because we must be in touch
with other European schools and learn a lot from them. We have the opportunity to live lots of interesting
experiences, sharing ideas, feelings, cultural aspects... And above all, learn together about certain aspects
we deal with our topic: Think before you click.
What is the most important thing you have learned in this project?
How to stay safe on the internet: We have learnt what things we can do or what things we must avoid.
What will you remember most about this project?
• The new knowledge we have now about the responsible use of the internet.
• The nice experiences we have lived with our new friends from the other countries
participating in the project.
• How nice hosting has been in our lives.
• The opportunity some of us had to travel to other countries
Do you like the activities in the Comenius project?
Yes, because we learn lots of new things on the Internet. They are very useful.
Do you think that internet safety and how to behave on the Internet is important?
Yes, because Internet can be dangerous and we can learn how to be in touch with others in a very safe way.
We use internet every day and it has to be safe
Have you learned anything new about the Internet in this project?
Yes, so many things… about hackers, good and bad behaviours, new codes, safe wifis,…
Do you have already some written rules in your computer classroom?
No. We don’t usually go to a computer lab because we have laptops in the class. But we will write a list of
rules and hang them in many places at school, not just in the computer lab.
Do you think that you always use the Internet in a safe way?
We try now. There are some classmates that go on doing bad things on the net, but at least we have the right
information now. And most of us try to be safe.
Will you change anything now when you use the Internet?
Yes, of course. Something we will change from now on:
• We will be careful about posting personal information on the net.
• We won't share passwords with anybody, just with our parents.
• We will be very careful with free wifis. We will only use those with a password.
• We will be very careful with the photos we will post in the future
What is the most important rule for you on the Internet?
We must not put personal information on the Internet.
Is it important that the school has some rules how to behave on the Internet?
Yes, it is very necessary to keep safe. And thanks to school, we learn a lot. Not always families have this
information
Do you think that you are well prepared to deal with problems on the Internet (cyberbullying …)?
Most of us think we are well prepared to deal with them because we have been working this topic in a very
deep way and we know what to do. The most important thing is trust an adult (mum, dad, teacher,...)
What is the most important rule about internet safety that all students have to follow?
18
_____________________________________________________________________________________
To be very careful when surfing the internet, being conscious of all the problems that can appear.
Do you think that rules used in the school can help someone to deal with problems on the Internet?
Some of the rules are new because we have been working on them and they are safe. But we have to change
some small details on our laptops to make them safer.
Do you think that the students follow all the rules on the Internet?
Not everybody follows the safe rules we have learnt during these 2 years, but the biggest part of the class
are now conscious of them and try to follow them.
There are still some classmates who go on uploading personal photos which are not suitable.
Have you already participated in other international projects?
Yes, but not like members in a Comenius project.
We have participated in some international classes: one in Munich and another one in Finland.
Do you like to participate in international projects? Why?
Yes, OF COURSE, because:
• We learn a lot.
• We have a lot of opportunities to meet other people and learn with them a lot of new
things.
• We meet new friends.
• We can improve our English in real situations
Would you rather to have another topic in the Comenius project? What is your suggestion?
Think before you click is a great project to make us know about the dangers on the internet. In the future,
we would like to work other topics such as: the false information media gives us every day.
Do you like the workshops during the project meeting?
Yes, because we can work in groups.
Do you like travelling to other countries?
Yes, because:
• The experience to be with people from other countries is very good.
• We learn lots of things
• It is fun
Have you met some new friends?
Yes, from Slovenia and Turkey in this project.
Do you think it’s important to get to know students and schools from other parts of Europe?
Yes, because we learn a lot of things, we can share lots of experiences, we can learn from other cultures
and improve our oral skills in English. And we can have new friends for ever.
Would you change anything about this project? What?
There is always something to change. We wish everybody could travel in this project.
What would you recommend to visit in your island?
In Palma, the capital city, we recommend you to visit: the Cathedral, a lot of museums, the promenade,
The Almudaina Palace, The Bellver Castle, because it is the only round castle in Spain, some nice Modernist
buildings, the town hall, ...
In Mallorca, we recommend you to visit: Serra de Tramuntana, a lovely chain of mountains, lots of nice
villages, such as Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller, Alcúdia, our lovely sandy beaches, especially the ones in the
south,...
Things to do: taste our gastronomy (pa amb oli, coca de trampo, frit Mallorquí, paella,...); go cycling; go
shopping; go swimming,...

E-BEHAVIOUR CODE BROCHURE
One of our final products of the project is also the E-behaviour code, which contains codes of behaviour
on the Internet written by our students. It is also published as a separate online document, as a poster with
rules for classrooms and rules that are integrated in school’s formal discipline policy.
Internet access is a human right and a real need these days. We must know the human and children's
rights to protect our rights and to behave responsibly on the Internet.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Convention on the Rights of the Child can explain
human rights in the context of rights on the Internet. Both documents can support and expand the capacity
of the Internet as a medium for civil, social and educational development that ensure our rights to
education, privacy, security, equality, freedom of speech and seeking information.
We all have responsibility for realizing human rights within our possibilities. In the context of setting
standards of behaviour on the Internet and computer in our schools, we have summarized articles of both
documents which relate to the rights on the Internet. From now on, it becomes a real need to be learnt at
schools, as a new content in our educational curriculum (introduction of the e-Behaviour code brochure,

E-greeting cards
The students have created Christmas and New Year’s electronic greeting cards that were published on the
blog of the project.
Other electronic greeting cards are published at:
http://thinkbeforeuclickcomenius.blogspot.com/2013/12/our-christmas-and-new-year-wishes.html
23
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Traditional greeting cards
The students also created traditional Christmas and New Year’s greeting cards which were exchanged
during a project meeting in Mallorca, in December 2013. During this project meeting, we created lovely
Christmas cards in a workshop. They worked in groups integrated by children from Spain, Slovenia and
Turkey.
Photos of greeting cards’ workshop are published on the blog of our project:
http://thinkbeforeuclickcomenius.blogspot.com/2013/12/traditional-christmas-greeting-cards.html
Logo of the project
The logo and also the slogan of the project were prepared by students in a competition in September
2013, at the beginning of our project, and were created in October 2013. A joint project logo was
designed from logos of our partner countries.
The logo was used on websites and documents of the project.
A badge of the logo "Think before you click" was created during a project meeting’s workshop.
In Mallorca, we used it to advertise the European Project in our school and to welcome our guests from
Turkey and Slovenia and as the cover of our school agenda during the school year 2013-14.
Video diaries of project meetings and the collection of photos taken during the
project meetings
During some project meetings we have filmed the activities of the workshops, cultural programmes and
visits to local heritage or country’s cultural sites.
Video diary of the project meeting in Turkey in April 2013 is available on the blog and at:

We also took photos of the main events taken place during the project meetings. Some photos of our
project meetings are also published in this publication.
Multimedia presentations of schools, towns and countries
Students created presentations of schools, towns and countries that were presented at the first project
meeting.
The multimedia presentations are available on the blog of the project.
Posters, commercials about internet safety and dangers on the Internet
Students created posters and commercials that promote the safe use on the Internet or to raise awareness
about the dangers on the Internet, especially cyber bullying. The posters were posted in Comenius corners
and on the blog.
Other posters are available at:
http://thinkbeforeuclickcomenius.blogspot.com/2014/05/posters-about-internet-safety-and.html
Celebrating Safer Internet Day in February 2013 and 2014
We celebrated the Safer Internet Day in February 2013 by making posters on the topic of the safe use of
the Internet, which were exhibited in the Comenius corner of schools. The posters were available to
students, parents, teachers and the local public and they were also published on the blog.
25
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Some of the posters are available at:
http://thinkbeforeuclickcomenius.blogspot.com/2013/02/safer-internet-day-5th-february-2013.html
In 2014, we celebrated the Safer Internet Day by filling out quizzes (purpose: learning about the safe use
of the Internet and cyberbullying). The quizzes and educational games were available for students,
teachers and parents.
In Spain, we also visited this great blog devoted to Education and new technologies. They had uploaded a
great article where some good recommendations about the good use of the internet were given. They also
offered some games to help us stay safe on the net.

Comenius corners at schools
In each partner schools, we prepared a Comenius corner where we posted some information about the
project, presentations of the partners and regularly recent news and information about the project
activities. The posts on Comenius corners were available to students, parents, teachers and the local
public.

Integration into ongoing activities
The project was integrated into school activities and in different subjects. The topic of the project was also
linked to special activity days, parent meetings, school clubs, various voluntary activities and activities in
the community of students.
In English lessons, students:
- learned the vocabulary of Internet, computers and computer equipment.
- filled out worksheets (the purpose: to learn vocabulary about the safe use of the Internet and cyberbullying,
to prepare rules of online behaviour for schools).
- played online educational games (theme: awareness about web violence, the safe use of the Internet) or
they analysed videos of excessive computer uses.
- read some articles related to the topic on the web.
- participated in lots of workshops with the three countries involved in the project.
- created and wrote a guide about how to keep safe on the net.
- prepared material for our blog.
- explained some aspects of the Comenius project: title, friends in Europe, some geographical aspects of
the countries participating in the project.
In geography or other sociological subjects and other subjects, students:
- learned about the characteristics and culture of the partners countries and prepared PowerPoint or video
presentations of their school, town and country which were presented to other partners.
- In Slovenia, a grandfather of a student (Mr. Cedilnik) presented a travelogue presentation of Palma de
Mallorca (traveling by bike) to the 7th
graders during geography lessons.
Travelogue presentation
of a partner country
-In Spain we presented our new friends in Europe: Slovenia and Turkey (with the help of maps, Google
Maps, Google Earth,…) in all groups. The class teacher and the English teacher talked about them and
they studied different aspects related to them.
- In Spain, the 5th
and the 6th
graders also prepared a Power Point of Palma and also of our school which
was presented in our 1st
mobility in Slovenia to approach our city and our school to Europe.
- In Spain, we also watched this video entitled ESPAÑOLES EN EL MUNDO: SLOVENIA. It is a very
popular programme on Spanish TV in which Spanish people living abroad tell us about their new life in
other countries. This one was devoted to those Spaniards living in Slovenia.

In the whole community of students and class lessons, students
- participated in a competition to create the project logo. The design of the logo was based on the theme
and objectives of the project. In the school competition, three logos were selected, part of the subject of the
school logo was chosen for the final logo project, which consists of logos selected in all three countries.
- filled out online questionnaires about internet safety and cyberbullying. Students’ ideas and propositions
during these activities and discussion during class lessons were used to create rules of school’s behaviour
and netiquette which were included in the project’s e-behaviour code brochure.
- prepared workshops in which the three countries were involved.
- commented on some news on the papers: for example, about people who have been cyberbullied.
- commented on videos we have seen in class.
- explained personal experiences on bullying or cyberbulling or addiction to the net.
The final logo of the project
Different clubs and various school’s voluntary activities were included in the project. They were actively
participating during project meetings.
- Children and youth choirs participated during the project meetings and prepared performance in English,
Catalan, Slovenian, Turkish and Spanish.
- Folklore and other dance clubs prepared different dance performances for cultural programmes during the
meetings.
- The debate club prepared a debate workshop for novice learners of all participating countries in English
during a project meeting. The debate statement of the workshop was: "The school should make greater use
of ICT technology".
- Students volunteers helped the elders to use the computer and gave them instructions including learning
of e-literacy and basic computer skills, including internet and safety hazards or gave tours of the schools to
the guests during project meetings.
- School’s cookery clubs prepared different traditional meals for the guests of the project meetings.

Some parent meetings were linked to the theme of our project.
We also invited them to participate in personal meetings at the time of the project meetings, so they had
the opportunity to communicate with teachers and students from other countries.
They have had some fresh news by reading the school website, the project website, the CP Son Canals blog
and our Comenius blog.
In Spain at the beginning of the school year 2012-13, we organised the initial meetings with parents at
school to explain the main rules and the main programme of the course. We took advantage of them to
present our Comenius project. We also sent them a letter to develop in detail the main ideas of our
participation in this European project.
In Slovenia, parent meetings in some classes included a theme about safety in ICT. The experts of the
organisation of SAFE.SI presented current topics in the field of internet security and lead a guided
conversation with parents about abuse of the internet, protecting your computer, home network and the data
on it and presented a realistic attitude towards the virtual world.
Some special activity days are always part of the school curriculum. Some of them included the theme and
goals of our project.
In Slovenia, the 8th graders had a culture day of activities on the topic of children's and human rights in the
context of children's rights and duties on the Internet.
They analysed The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Convention on the Rights of the Child and
linked their articles to the theme of the Internet which became a base for writing rules of online behaviour
in schools.
During a special presentation of ICT in the school’s library, participants learned about the evaluation and
verification of the quality of websites used by students in terms of authorship, responsibility, precision,
accuracy, objectivity, currency, coverage and scope.
Other activities
Light paintings
During a project meeting, students created photos with the help of technological devices, especially by
cameras. They created light paintings.
Symbols, logos and banners/slogans using the computer
During a project meeting, students created logos, symbols and banners/slogans related to the theme of
internet safety and cyberbullying by using the computer and the Internet.

Run For charity – A Day Without Internet
The students, parents and teachers of Primary School of Rodica in Domžale participate in the activity
called A Day without Internet and tried not to use the Internet on Tuesday, the 8th October 2013 which
was any activity proposed during the Children’s week in Slovenia (from 7th to 13th October).
What are some opportunities to enjoy the day without the Internet? You can walk, read a book, socialize
with you peers, and participate in sports activities, baking cookies or something else.
In the afternoon, we offered the students and parents some sport activities like volleyball and basketball
and especially a run for charity where parents and students had gathered and ran a kilometre or two. We
had collected a registration fee to support students of our school.
A drama session
A group of four actors (three women and one man) came to school in Spain to dramatize several scenes
on bullying or cyberbullying. It was a role game where children also acted. They pretended to do
bullying or to suffer from it. Some children also had the possibility to help the protagonists solve the
different situations they were living. They can be real situations and children must be prepared to cope
with them.

during a project meeting. The theme was the basic concept of the Internet (friendly "and" unfriendly
"applications, unwanted applications and mail) and social networks and social engineering (passwords,
data and scams on the Internet).
- COOPERATION WITH THE INSTUTION YPSILON – PROJECT SIMBIOZA
During a workshop, students as mentors helped older people (including grandparents of our students) to
learn the basics of computing and the Internet, security on the Internet and the dangers of the Internet.
- COOPERATION WITH SLOVENIAN AWARENESS CENTRE SAFE.SI:
The Slovenian Awareness Centre SAFE.SI provided us materials, worksheets and presentations for our
project activities. They lead parent meetings and had workshops for students.
- COOPERATION WITH POLICE SERVICES:
A police officer visited the school in Spain and Turkey to talk about the dangers on the net. They also
had a parent meeting in the school.

  • 4. 1 _____________________________________________________________________________________ 1. PREFACE __________________________________________________________________ The European school needs to use technology to teach children and future European citizens how to access and respond to different contents on the Internet and computer in a responsible and safe way. The Internet and the computer have become new mediums nowadays which belong in our everyday tasks and almost everyday activities at school, such as the use of didactic games on computers for students or daily e-mail scanning for teachers. Therefore, teaching about the safe use of the Internet and knowledge of the dangers are crucial in our role as teachers in schools. For this purpose, we had set the aim of our partnership among Slovenia, Spain and Turkey: to raise awareness and teach all students to use computers in a safe and responsible way with different activities, as we named our project Think before you click. We also engaged other teachers and parents to take part in our project. A comparison of the state of Internet safety and drawbacks in all partner countries and integrating the theme in all school’s work plan were the starting point of our partnership tasks. It also helped us to set activities that would enable the students to have a more active part in the process as they will help each other and the adults too. This common ground demanded the use of different methods to achieve our goals: debating, creating posters, interviewing, organizing different workshops (for example, students help to teach the elderly or younger students to use computers and the Internet), etc. while sharing new teaching methods, exchanging good practices or solutions to problems and materials with other teachers from the project, disseminating the results to other colleagues, parents and wider community. In all schools participating in the project, we had realized that we did not yet have fully adequate written policies about online behaviour at school, the safe use of the Internet and steps or others measures taken to deal with dangers on the Internet. For that reason, we created an e-Behaviour code for schools which set standards to follow a certain netiquette and rules while using any data processing machines and online networks in our schools. Simultaneously, we made sure that our project would connect people of different ages, cultures, languages and countries, deepened the ties between all of them and thus bridge the generation gap successfully. Moreover, the project provided a unique opportunity for students to broaden and improve their knowledge about Europe, different countries and languages. They were also able to interact with peers and adults from different parts of Europe and thus got a very close view of what European citizenship and cooperation is all about. We also think that the project helped students to embrace the idea of Europe as a unity and to learn how to respect and appreciate social and cultural diversity in Europe too. It also helped them to develop different organizational and interpersonal qualities and skills which will be of key importance in their future lives and careers. This bulletin is the final product of our project and cooperation. It contains the results of the project’s activities, documents, analyses, photos and pictures. Consequently, we know that the results will help us in our future work.
  • 5. 2 _____________________________________________________________________________________ Finally, we would like to thank everyone that has participated in our project: our head teachers, teachers and colleagues, students, parents, representatives of other institutions and everyone that helps us to realize the goals, activities of our theme and project. Coordinator of the project: Marko Drobne
  • 6. 3 _____________________________________________________________________________________ 2. PARTNERS IN THE PROJECT __________________________________________________________________ Primary school of Rodica, Domžale, Slovenia______________________ The school is located in the suburbs of the town of Domžale, in the centre of Slovenia. This school year it is attended by about 640 pupils, aged 6 to 15, from the local communities of Jarše, Rodica, Vir and Domžale. In the last years the number of migrant students from former Yugoslav republics and Albania has been increasing. In addition, pupils with special educational needs are integrated into regular (mainstream) classes. One of the school's aims is to provide a safe learning environment in which staff and students can work together, flourish and achieve high standards. Therefore, our students are encouraged to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities, projects, voluntary work and special programmes for the gifted and talented pupils. Moreover, our school has been an Eco, Unesco and Healthy school for many years, which means we take care of the environment and promote a healthy lifestyle. Our school's vision is also to be a school open to the world. In recent years, we have already participated in many international projects: ACES, Youth in Action, Comenius Multilateral and Comenius Regio (from 2009 to 2011). We believe that by participating in the Comenius project many of our goals and vision can be met. Primary school Rodica hosted two project Comenius meetings in March 2013 and March 2014.
  • 7. 4 _____________________________________________________________________________________ PRIMARY SCHOOL: CP SON CANALS, Palma de Mallorca, Spain Son Canals is a public school attended by 265 students, aged 3 to 12 (pre-school and Primary Education). It is located in Palma de Mallorca (Balearic Islands), in an area with a lot of immigration, especially from China, Morocco, South America and Sub-Saharan Africa. In fact, a big part of our students are immigrants (33%) and among the ones considered to be Spanish (because they were already born here), 67% has immigrant families. We use three languages to communicate at school: Catalan and Spanish (both official languages in our community) and English, but most of our students speaks other mother tongues at home. English is becoming more and more important every day in our school curriculum. For this reason, participating in European projects gives us the opportunity to go on working in this direction, providing our school with a European dimension. Students with special educational needs are integrated into regular classes. Due to difficult social situations, we have a bigger number of them each year. We are also an eco-school, participating in projects related to the environment care and have won some prizes. We have participated in some International classes, as guests in some European schools: 2011-12: A meeting in Munich (Germany) for a week (2 teachers and 6 students in the 6th grade class participated in it) 2012-13: A meeting in Kuopio (Finland) for a week (2 teachers and 6 students in the 5th grade class participated in it). Son Canals hosted two meetings in this Comenius project in June 2013 and December 2013.

There are 32 staff serving 440 students aged 6-15. Most of our students are from the disadvantaged areas of Bucak. These areas are Üzümlübel, Alkaya, Çamlık, Seydiköy, İncirdere,Dağarcık. In addition, there is also a class for students with special needs and we have two teachers in charge of their integration into regular classes. In this project, we had hosted all the partners at the third project meeting on the third week of April in 2013.On 23rd of April, we celebrated "Children's Day" which is an important national feast for us. In this way our partners and their pupils will learn how we celebrate our feasts and traditions. Besides, we had arranged a picnic in which all the students had taken part in actively, they had helped each other and they had shared their own traditions. 75.Yıl Primary School hosted two project Comenius meetings, in April 2013 and May 2014.
  • 9. 6 _____________________________________________________________________________________ 3. THE PROJECT THEME AND OBJECTIVES __________________________________________________________________ The title of our project was Think Before You Click. The aim of the partnership ad project was to raise awareness of children and the whole school community (teachers and families) about the safe and responsible use of the Internet. With our project we drew attention to the dangers of the internet and offered solutions on how to protect yourself against those online threats and ensure a safe online environment. We had also informed all the participants and wider community about the safe measures to be taken from now on, published them on the blog or stationery written posters which were displayed around the schools and in our new e-behaviour code brochure. The concrete objectives of the project were: - to promote, ensure and raise awareness about safe Internet use with different activities and reduce the risks on the Internet; - to compare different kinds of violence, especially cyber ones among students with different activities and programmes addressing all participants and to prevent all kinds of violence; - to make an e-booklet titled " e-Behaviour Code" containing codes of behaviour on the Internet (rights, duties and guidelines for a safe use) written by our students with the help of teachers and other experts; - to present the project results to a broader (European) community (we believe that every person in the world can use our project results in combating cyber violence and feel safer on the Internet – such as an e-booklet, results of the questionnaires, tips how to prevent cyber bullying etc.); - to increase and intensify the feeling of being members of a wider community such as the European Union; - to ensure peer learning (learning from good practice experiences); - to connect people of different ages, cultures, languages and countries, and to deepen the ties between all of them; - to promote respect and tolerance towards other cultures and to one another; - to bridge the generation gap; - to promote voluntary work, intergenerational help among students, teachers, parents, elderly and the local communities; - to involve parents and other adults in the school life and project activities, - to develop a spirit of cooperation and friendship; - to acquire skills in foreign languages and new technologies which are a necessity in current times; - to get to know other cultures and accepting thereby the European dimension; - to enrich the educational offer of the school; - to enhance interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills; - to promote teaching with the use of ITC technologies; - to enhance communicative language skills; - to reinforce cooperation among schools involved in the project; - to enrich the traditionally used methods of teaching; - to exchange the experiences and pedagogical materials with other teachers; - to participate in the project as an important milestone in the promotion of schools;
  • 10. 7 _____________________________________________________________________________________ - to promote European cooperation in education among students, their parents and local authorities by providing others with information about the project (e.g. website, organisation of different school events and workshops). 4. THE PROJECT ACTIVITIES AND OUTCOMES (the results of the project) __________________________________________________________________ COMPARISON OF THE STATE OF THE SAFE USE OF THE INTERNET AND CYBERBULLYING IN PARTNER COUNTRIES' SCHOOLS ANALYSES OF THE INTERNET SAFETY AND CYBERBULLYING QUESTIONNAIRE FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS The purpose of the online questionnaire at the beginning of the project was to determine the initial and the real situation of internet safety and knowledge of drawbacks of the internet in all schools of partner countries. The questionnaire included questions and giving opinions for students and parents about the general use of computers and Internet, the safe use of the Internet and the dangers of Internet, including cyberbullying. The main results of all partners are published in this publication and in a separate document as an international comparison. The questionnaires are available online: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?usp=drive_web&formkey=dHNwejNFaEMtX1hCeUlqZ m4tRWVrRHc6MA#gid=0 (questionnaire for students) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?usp=drive_web&formkey=dHhseXVQRjNCa2tRblp2UG J6dEsyQ3c6MA#gid=0 (questionnaire for parents). The results in Slovenia: In Slovenia, the sample was consisted of students from 6th to 9th grade and their parents, because this age group uses more often computers and the Internet for various purposes, so the sample was more representative. Student results: 95% of Slovenian students of the Primary school Rodica have internet connection at home (and most of them computers in their rooms) and 66 % use it every day, while 5 % do not have internet connection at home.
  • 11. 8 _____________________________________________________________________________________ 32 % use the Internet less than on hour a day and 24 % one to two hours per day. Most of students (65%) use the Internet for social network sites and they are on these sites every day; others use it for entertainment or playing computer games. Most of students can help others to learn how to use the computer, internet or how to stay safe on the internet. However, most of them think they could not recognize dangers on the Internet; nonetheless, they do take precautions (for example: they do no give personal information, they are careful about „fake“ profiles,…etc.) 59 % of students think you can get addicted to the Internet and most of them know someone who uses it too much. Generally, they agree that there are better ways to spend their free time besides the internet: meeting friends, playing sports, etc. 68 % of students have talked with someone (parents) about the safe use of internet, 59 % think they know a lot about it. 19% 65% 74% 54% 20% 25% 9% 4% Studies /Reading Social Networking (Facebook, Twitter,…) Entertainment (music, movies, Youtube) Computer games Looking for some information Emails Shopping 19% 18% 15% 18% What to learn about the dangers of the Internet? safe use of the Internet cyberbullying codes of behaviour on the Internet all of them
  • 12. 9 _____________________________________________________________________________________ Most of them stay safe with the help of other students and adults who teach them how to use the Internet and mobile phones in a safe way (54% ) or by visiting Internet pages promoting the safe use of Internet (45%). Students shares their opinions about the use of the Internet and what they like or not about it: Most of them think they have enough information about cyberbullying, but they do think there is a lot of cyberbullying on the Internet, but almost half of them would like to learn more about it. 24 % of students know someone who has been bullied on the Internet. 12 % have been bullied, usually by text messages. They feel stressed, worried and afraid. For most of them, cyberbullying has lasted from one to two weeks or even a few years. They have also suggested different solutions to the problem of cyberbullying, like helping the victims of cyberbullying, blocking the person who is bullying or telling parents about the problem. Parent results: Most of their children (89%) use the internet less than one hour per day, often instead of watching TV (30%), but almost never instead of exercising or sleeping. According to the parents’ opinion, their children’s favourite activities on the Internet are listening to music and social networking. 77 % of their children use social networking sites. Almost every parent have talked about e-safety with their child.
  • 13. 10 _____________________________________________________________________________________ More than half of parents have enough knowledge about computers, the Internet; however, most of them (72%) would like that the school provides education to parents, especially on topics:  Cyberbullying  How to set up privacy settings on social networking sites  Impacts of media on my child’s behaviour  How to help my child think critically about media  Effects of media on my child’s health and development 32 % of their children have already talked to a person on a social network sites who they do not know. Nonetheless, the majority of parents know the amount of personal information that their child displays on their social networking profile page and they have checked their child’s digital footprint on a computer. 69 % of parents think that the teachers need better training to deal with bullying and also cyberbullying. Parents are worried about any kind of violence, however, the most growing apprehension is about internet violence. Nonetheless, their biggest concern is still physical violence. Also, the parents propose some solutions to the problem of cyberbullying on the Internet. They propose to help the victims with open discussion about the problems, preventive actions or reporting the bully to the legal authorities. The punishments suggested by the parents are very similar to their propositions about helping a victim of cyberbullying; however, they also encourage volunteer work to ensure that the cyberbully will learn to help others. 0% 10% 20% 30% 40% 50% Chat rooms Music Instant Messenger Gaming File sharing Social Networking Web Surfing Child’s Favourite Activities on the Internet
  • 14. 11 _____________________________________________________________________________________ The results in Spain: In Spain, the 5th graders and 6th graders (10-12 years old) and their parents participated in this task, because they are the eldest students in their school and use more often computers and social nets. Teachers in their school considered the rest of students were too young to answer this questionnaire. It was a nice experience for everybody because it became their first questionnaire online ever. Anyway, it has to be taken into account that almost half of the Mallorca’s families of their school do not have internet connection at home. For this reason this kind of activities cannot be compulsory at school. Student results: On the whole we received 58 questionnaires, but just 56 were valid. Most of them were 11 years old, and they were more or less the same percentage of girls (27) and boys (29). CONCLUSIONS:  Almost 80% has internet access at home and they usually use it in common places, such as the dining room or the living room. Those who have not it usually use it through cell phones or cybercafés.  A great part of students (almost the 50%) uses internet every day and an important number of them (27%), more than once a week. 60% uses it about 2 hours a day.  The order of priorities when using internet is: 38% 19% 15% 28% physical violence psychological violence cyberbullying internet addiction
  • 15. 12 _____________________________________________________________________________________  57% of our students uses social networks more than once a week. We think it is a very high number if we take into account they are illegal at this age. But the positive part is that almost everybody knows all contacts there. The ones they do not know personally are usually famous people like footballers.  All of them have heard about the dangers on the internet, because since the project started, we have been talking about it. For this reason, some police officers were invited to come to the school to talk about it. 97% of students think that this talk was really useful.  According to the results, they trust their parents. In case of a problem on the web, they would talk to them first and also to a teacher or to a police officer.  They think the most important advantages of internet are: being in touch with others (chats, emails, Skype, networks,…). A lot of students are foreigners so they use it to be in touch with their relatives; having fun (computer games, games, music, YouTube, films,…); having a big information source where to find whatever they want.  From their point of view, the biggest disadvantages are: virus; problems with the internet access; hackers; unknown people being in contact in social networks,  96% thinks there are lots of interesting things to do apart from surfing the internet: meeting friends; playing with them; doing sports; going on excursions; …  15% of our students has been threatened specially through SMS, but it was something which lasted a week. Most of them thinks cyberbullying is a big problem these days. But at the same time they think they have enough information to cope with this problem, although they would like to go deeper in it. For most of them, cyberbullying is related to students threatened other students. They are worried about it. 20% of students know someone who has been threatened, 80% do not. * Just 16% thinks they could be an internet addict in the future. In fact, 83% of students knows somebody who uses internet too much. • 16. 13 _____________________________________________________________________________________ In our school, a lot of parents are not used to new technologies. To be honest, we have to say that it was the first time they did a questionnaire online. It has been a nice experience for them, but not many could do it. Most of them were done by mothers. Participants: 29 (23 mothers and 6 fathers). 13 were 5th graders’ parents and 16 6th graders’ parents. CONCLUSIONS:  Along the questionnaire, they have shown their worries about the dangers on the internet. In fact, they have shown us their satisfaction about the school participating in this project. They are very happy about it. According to them, they are really worried about dangerous people on the web and about how easy it is to have an access to those pages for adults which are not appropriate to them, especially the ones about sex.  Most of them, 64%, confesses they are not ready to avoid these dangers. They do not have a specific knowledge and would like the school to help them in this sense, especially at the time of developing a critical use of it and installing safe systems at home. 96% thinks it is a great idea that the school educates about internet safety.  They said their children are connected to internet, but not too much. All of them coincided in less than 4 hours last weekend.  Just 7% knows about the fact that their children have talked to unknown people sometimes. We suppose it is because the children explained it to them.  68% knows their children use social networks and 12% knows they have had some problems with them. 82% of parents is conscious about the great amount of information their children leave in these places but they still allow them to use them.  76% says they have talked about the dangers of internet with their children and 67% usually checks what the children have been doing on the internet, revising the historical movements. Just 8% has found inappropriate information sometimes.  According to their answers, a lot of problems could be avoided by: talking about them and providing with more information; spending time talking to their children and supporting them; giving them more education about these technological tools; …  If there are other students in the school threatening others, most parents think: teachers should talk to their parents very seriously and make them understand how harmful their actions are for the victims. Some of them think they should be sacked. The results in Turkey 234 students from 6th to 8th grades of the primary school in Turkey filled out the online questionnaires. Most of them were boys (62%). Student results: The majority of students do not have internet connection at home (60%); however the majority of students use the Internet once a week, one third of all students use it every day. Most of students (63%) use Internet for homework. Other students use it for social networking (especially Facebook), gaming and music. Nonetheless, they rather use mobile phones (51%) for communicating than the Internet or Facebook. The majority of students did not talk about the safe use of internet. However, if they would have problems on the Internet, especially cyberbullying, they would talk with their parents. Students have different choices about the use of the Internet:
  • 17. 14 _____________________________________________________________________________________ 42 % of students know that there is a lot of cyberbullying on the Internet; however, the majority (58%) thinks cyberbullying is not the most important problem on the Internet. The majority of the students think that the most harmful violence is still physical violence, while at least 18 % think that cyberbullying can be a harmful problem. The majority of students have not been cyberbullied (95%), only 5% were. Parent results: 88 % of the parents would like the school to provide education for parents about cyberbullying and internet safety. According to parents, Internet addiction is the most alarming danger among all violence. The majority of parents (56%) had a conversation about e-safety with their children. In addition, 56 % of parents have checked their child’s internet history and %15 have found harmful material in the web history. All the parents think that teachers should be better trained to deal with cyberbullying. Parents have also suggested some propositions of punishment for cyberbullying: boot camps, counselling or exclusion from schools.
  • 18. 15 _____________________________________________________________________________________ Questionnaire and feedback in the final phase of the project: Students completed the questionnaire and gave feedback on their progress in achieving the objectives of the project. Pupils gave opinions about the proposed activities that would help them to raise awareness about problems and cyberbullying on the Internet and provide them skills to use the internet in a safe way, to behave online in a proper way and to use adequate steps to protect themselves against the dangers of the Internet and other types of computer misuse. The results in Slovenia: 78% of Slovenian students liked the proposed activities about internet safety and cyberbullying. Also, 98% of students think that rules on the Internet are compulsory. 41 % of students have used the rules that were presented and taught in the school also at home. Learning about internet safety helped the students to follow rules at home, as 57 % of students were more careful using the Internet at home. However, others did not use the rules from the proposed activities at schools, because 56% of them already knew and used the rules of internet safety at home. Students’ ideas and propositions were used to create rules of school’s netiquette which were presented in every classes and pinned as a poster in every classroom in the school. In generation gap workshops, older students helped the younger students to use the Internet in a safe away and they taught them about the dangers on the Internet and how to be careful when using a computer. The results in Spain: 100% of our students liked a lot the proposed activities in this project. They gave several reasons. They think:  They were many and varied.
  • 19. 16 _____________________________________________________________________________________ 90% of students follows the new rules they have learnt in this project. All of them are now more conscious of the dangers on the net, but some confess it is still difficult for them not to upload personal photos on social nets. They still go on doing it, but they explain they are more careful with the content in them. 5% confesses they still do illegal downloads. When asking them about the most important knowledge they had acquired, the answers were:  The legal age to use social nets and some of the most important dangers when using them.  Some important rules to stay safe.  How dangerous wifis with no passwords can be and how easy for a hacker is to get access to your personals accounts.  The need to use secure web pages: check they have the https code. Students’ new knowledge was used to create a guide with 16 rules to help everybody stay safe on the net. It was uploaded to our Comenius blog and explained to the school community in some meetings by the students. The results in Turkey: All the students liked the activities proposed during classes and the project. Also, the majority of the students think that the rules are important on the Internet and they follow them. They learned a lot about internet safety and cyberbullying and especially steps how to protect yourself on the Internet. Even though, cyberbullying is not an alarming problem in the school, they learned how to behave on the Internet and to be aware of the problems on the Internet. Learning about internet safety helped them also to be safe on mobile phones. They also discussed a lot about rules and appropriate behaviour on the Internet and created rules of school’s internet safety. COMPARISON OF THE STATE IN THREE COUNTRIES/SUMMARY The conclusion of our analyses are:  Students in all three countries use regularly the Internet.  In all three countries, the majority of students stated that they learned a lot about safety internet and how to cope with the dangers on the Internet with the proposed activities in our project.  Students also created rules how to behave on the Internet and computers in general and especially in their schools. We have published the results in a new document as an international comparison of the state of Internet safety for children and youth.
  • 20. 17 _____________________________________________________________________________________ INTERVIEWS Students interviewed other students of the partner's schools to get to know about more their involvement in the project, their personal experience during project meetings, especially in international projects, and knowledge gained from experience of the project activities. Here is one of the student’s interview: Why do you participate in this Comenius project? Because we are conscious about how good this project is for us. It is a very good experience for the whole school community. Thanks to it, we can improve our English and be richer as European citizens because we must be in touch with other European schools and learn a lot from them. We have the opportunity to live lots of interesting experiences, sharing ideas, feelings, cultural aspects... And above all, learn together about certain aspects we deal with our topic: Think before you click. What is the most important thing you have learned in this project? How to stay safe on the internet: We have learnt what things we can do or what things we must avoid. What will you remember most about this project? • The new knowledge we have now about the responsible use of the internet. • The nice experiences we have lived with our new friends from the other countries participating in the project. • How nice hosting has been in our lives. • The opportunity some of us had to travel to other countries Do you like the activities in the Comenius project? Yes, because we learn lots of new things on the Internet. They are very useful. Do you think that internet safety and how to behave on the Internet is important? Yes, because Internet can be dangerous and we can learn how to be in touch with others in a very safe way. We use internet every day and it has to be safe Have you learned anything new about the Internet in this project? Yes, so many things… about hackers, good and bad behaviours, new codes, safe wifis,… Do you have already some written rules in your computer classroom? No. We don’t usually go to a computer lab because we have laptops in the class. But we will write a list of rules and hang them in many places at school, not just in the computer lab. Do you think that you always use the Internet in a safe way? We try now. There are some classmates that go on doing bad things on the net, but at least we have the right information now. And most of us try to be safe. Will you change anything now when you use the Internet? Yes, of course. Something we will change from now on: • We will be careful about posting personal information on the net. • We won't share passwords with anybody, just with our parents. • We will be very careful with free wifis. We will only use those with a password. • We will be very careful with the photos we will post in the future What is the most important rule for you on the Internet? We must not put personal information on the Internet. Is it important that the school has some rules how to behave on the Internet? Yes, it is very necessary to keep safe. And thanks to school, we learn a lot. Not always families have this information Do you think that you are well prepared to deal with problems on the Internet (cyberbullying …)? Most of us think we are well prepared to deal with them because we have been working this topic in a very deep way and we know what to do. The most important thing is trust an adult (mum, dad, teacher,...) What is the most important rule about internet safety that all students have to follow?
  • 21. 18 _____________________________________________________________________________________ To be very careful when surfing the internet, being conscious of all the problems that can appear. Do you think that rules used in the school can help someone to deal with problems on the Internet? Some of the rules are new because we have been working on them and they are safe. But we have to change some small details on our laptops to make them safer. Do you think that the students follow all the rules on the Internet? Not everybody follows the safe rules we have learnt during these 2 years, but the biggest part of the class are now conscious of them and try to follow them. There are still some classmates who go on uploading personal photos which are not suitable. Have you already participated in other international projects? Yes, but not like members in a Comenius project. We have participated in some international classes: one in Munich and another one in Finland. Do you like to participate in international projects? Why? Yes, OF COURSE, because: • We learn a lot. • We have a lot of opportunities to meet other people and learn with them a lot of new things. • We meet new friends. • We can improve our English in real situations Would you rather to have another topic in the Comenius project? What is your suggestion? Think before you click is a great project to make us know about the dangers on the internet. In the future, we would like to work other topics such as: the false information media gives us every day. Do you like the workshops during the project meeting? Yes, because we can work in groups. Do you like travelling to other countries? Yes, because: • The experience to be with people from other countries is very good. • We learn lots of things • It is fun Have you met some new friends? Yes, from Slovenia and Turkey in this project. Do you think it’s important to get to know students and schools from other parts of Europe? Yes, because we learn a lot of things, we can share lots of experiences, we can learn from other cultures and improve our oral skills in English. And we can have new friends for ever. Would you change anything about this project? What? There is always something to change. We wish everybody could travel in this project. What would you recommend to visit in your island? In Palma, the capital city, we recommend you to visit: the Cathedral, a lot of museums, the promenade, The Almudaina Palace, The Bellver Castle, because it is the only round castle in Spain, some nice Modernist buildings, the town hall, ... In Mallorca, we recommend you to visit: Serra de Tramuntana, a lovely chain of mountains, lots of nice villages, such as Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller, Alcúdia, our lovely sandy beaches, especially the ones in the south,... Things to do: taste our gastronomy (pa amb oli, coca de trampo, frit Mallorquí, paella,...); go cycling; go shopping; go swimming,... • 22. 19 _____________________________________________________________________________________ E-BEHAVIOUR CODE BROCHURE One of our final products of the project is also the E-behaviour code, which contains codes of behaviour on the Internet written by our students. It is also published as a separate online document, as a poster with rules for classrooms and rules that are integrated in school’s formal discipline policy. Internet access is a human right and a real need these days. We must know the human and children's rights to protect our rights and to behave responsibly on the Internet. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Convention on the Rights of the Child can explain human rights in the context of rights on the Internet. Both documents can support and expand the capacity of the Internet as a medium for civil, social and educational development that ensure our rights to education, privacy, security, equality, freedom of speech and seeking information. We all have responsibility for realizing human rights within our possibilities. In the context of setting standards of behaviour on the Internet and computer in our schools, we have summarized articles of both documents which relate to the rights on the Internet. From now on, it becomes a real need to be learnt at schools, as a new content in our educational curriculum (introduction of the e-Behaviour code brochure, 2014). The topic of the project was also linked to special activity days, parent meetings, school clubs, various voluntary activities and activities in the community of students. In English lessons, students: - learned the vocabulary of Internet, computers and computer equipment. - filled out worksheets (the purpose: to learn vocabulary about the safe use of the Internet and cyberbullying, to prepare rules of online behaviour for schools). - played online educational games (theme: awareness about web violence, the safe use of the Internet) or they analysed videos of excessive computer uses. - read some articles related to the topic on the web. - participated in lots of workshops with the three countries involved in the project. - created and wrote a guide about how to keep safe on the net. - prepared material for our blog. - explained some aspects of the Comenius project: title, friends in Europe, some geographical aspects of the countries participating in the project. In geography or other sociological subjects and other subjects, students: - learned about the characteristics and culture of the partners countries and prepared PowerPoint or video presentations of their school, town and country which were presented to other partners. - In Slovenia, a grandfather of a student (Mr. Cedilnik) presented a travelogue presentation of Palma de Mallorca (traveling by bike) to the 7th graders during geography lessons. Travelogue presentation of a partner country -In Spain we presented our new friends in Europe: Slovenia and Turkey (with the help of maps, Google Maps, Google Earth,…) in all groups. The class teacher and the English teacher talked about them and they studied different aspects related to them. - In Spain, the 5th and the 6th graders also prepared a Power Point of Palma and also of our school which was presented in our 1st mobility in Slovenia to approach our city and our school to Europe. - In Spain, we also watched this video entitled ESPAÑOLES EN EL MUNDO: SLOVENIA. • 31. 28 _____________________________________________________________________________________ Some parent meetings were linked to the theme of our project. We also invited them to participate in personal meetings at the time of the project meetings, so they had the opportunity to communicate with teachers and students from other countries. They have had some fresh news by reading the school website, the project website, the CP Son Canals blog and our Comenius blog. In Spain at the beginning of the school year 2012-13, we organised the initial meetings with parents at school to explain the main rules and the main programme of the course. We took advantage of them to present our Comenius project. We also sent them a letter to develop in detail the main ideas of our participation in this European project. In Slovenia, parent meetings in some classes included a theme about safety in ICT. The experts of the organisation of SAFE.SI presented current topics in the field of internet security and lead a guided conversation with parents about abuse of the internet, protecting your computer, home network and the data on it and presented a realistic attitude towards the virtual world. Some special activity days are always part of the school curriculum. Some of them included the theme and goals of our project. In Slovenia, the 8th graders had a culture day of activities on the topic of children's and human rights in the context of children's rights and duties on the Internet. They analysed The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Convention on the Rights of the Child and linked their articles to the theme of the Internet which became a base for writing rules of online behaviour in schools. During a special presentation of ICT in the school’s library, participants learned about the evaluation and verification of the quality of websites used by students in terms of authorship, responsibility, precision, accuracy, objectivity, currency, coverage and scope. Other activities Light paintings During a project meeting, students created photos with the help of technological devices, especially by cameras. They created light paintings. Symbols, logos and banners/slogans using the computer During a project meeting, students created logos, symbols and banners/slogans related to the theme of internet safety and cyberbullying by using the computer and the Internet.
  • 32. 29 _____________________________________________________________________________________ Run For charity – A Day Without Internet The students, parents and teachers of Primary School of Rodica in Domžale participate in the activity called A Day without Internet and tried not to use the Internet on Tuesday, the 8th October 2013 which was any activity proposed during the Children’s week in Slovenia (from 7th to 13th October). What are some opportunities to enjoy the day without the Internet? You can walk, read a book, socialize with you peers, and participate in sports activities, baking cookies or something else. In the afternoon, we offered the students and parents some sport activities like volleyball and basketball and especially a run for charity where parents and students had gathered and ran a kilometre or two. We had collected a registration fee to support students of our school. A drama session A group of four actors (three women and one man) came to school in Spain to dramatize several scenes on bullying or cyberbullying. It was a role game where children also acted. They pretended to do bullying or to suffer from it. Some children also had the possibility to help the protagonists solve the different situations they were living. They can be real situations and children must be prepared to cope with them.
