Proxy War: - A war instigated by a major power that does not itself participate.

 The DSE was successful with the support of the USA.
Yugoslavia withdrew from  Greece due to a series of political losses and soon later became  an independent nation.

  • 9. North Korea wanted to be unified by using force.
  • 10. Neither side benefited by fighting in Korea.
  • 11. The country is still divided between the North and South.

  • 14. Reason for the Vietnam war was to prevent the takeover of South Vietnam to the communists.
  • 15. War peaked in between 1967 – 1970 where ground forces were withdrawn .
  • 16. Peace Accords were signed by all countries involved in the war but fighting continued till 1975.

  • 19. Fidel Castro and Che Gravari were successful at defeating the US and pushing them back to the states, thus boosting their popularity for themselves and the communist parties.

  • 23. While in power Allende allied himself with the communists and strengthened the relationship between the Soviet Union.
  • 24. The USA didn’t want Chilli to be communist so they spent millions for the CIA to infiltrate the country and stir up a revolution.
  • 25. When Allende died in 1973, leader of the military coup Augusto Pinochet took presidency over the country.

  • 28. Large amounts of weapons were supplied by the communists to aid the MPLA.
  • 29. The UNITA funded Angola until the early 1990’s where the Bicesse Accord was formed. The war did re-resume in the mid. 90’s.
  • 30. Overall the US won in a sense that they spread their ideas.

  • 33. Over 700 Soviet covert troops were disguised as Afghan military. From there they occupied many important government and media locations across the country. This was done in the hopes that it would form rebellions and revolutions. This however failed and the Soviets withdrew.
  • 34. The Soviets lost and the US were victorious in Afghanistan. This increased the tension severely for the control of the oil pools in Afghanistan.http://www.alternativeinsight.com/Afghan_War.html
