Dear Ladies & Gentlemen,
I like to welcome you to our first Lean Supplier Day in Blaichach as well.
My name is Walter Wenk, I am responsible for Mobility Supplier Development in Europe.I will introduce you to the LEAN, as a key or as I wrote here, basis for staying competitive.
Why did I choose that title for my presentation?
We are all working in the automotive business, which is, like no other driven by price and market volatility.
You can follow this system by reducing your margin sooner or later, or , which is the better way, you reduce the cost.
With my presentation and our 3 market places we show you HOW you can do it.
Our hosts in Blaichach are showing you THAT it works.
But before we go to the agenda some figures:
Do you have an idea what that means ??
Me either
Your family again sent food, what have you told them from your last visit?
Please don´t start agin with the same topic, I will apologize long time already
But I know the meaning of this:
Let´s get started
I have split my presentation into 4 focus points:
First we will get some information's about the meaning of Lean
Than I show you some our requirements towards you
After than we show you, how Lean can support our requirements
And last but not least I will give you an outlook why you should start with Lean before implementing I4.0 solutions.
If you search for Lean in Google, you will find more than 8 millions of hits.Looking into our industrial environment I have reduced it to the following 10 Buzzwords:
Let me start with the as of now most important one: Lean Manufacturing and Lean Six Sigma
Bosch has also started with Lean Product Development, some of you might have heard the word Planning Guideline already
With our new products getting more connectivity, we have implemented Lean software development
Looking into the upcoming years: Lean services will play a much bigger role. You have seen it in the slides from Mr. Willmott already.
With the VUCA world also agility got very famous.
LEAN itself means “slim”, waste free, efficient, and much more.
The tools how to implement LEAN in your organization are also well known.
For us the most important ones are:
Value Stream Management to get the transparency in our organization
System-CIP to ensure a systemic continuous improvement process
And Pull to implement an efficient production control.
Sometimes organizations fail to implement LEAN – you know why?
Taylorism: (Frederick Winslow Taylor) also know as:Scientific management is a theory of management that analyzes and synthesizes workflows.
Its main objective is improving especially labor productivity. It was one of the earliest attempts to apply science to the engineering of processes and to management.
Lean is not a fast way to improve your productivity – lean takes time, but will lead to sustainable improvements year by year. Some of you have set-up a 10-year roll-out plan to implement Lean in an organization.
Lean should come out of your organization – lean is a philosophy how you as Leaders want to steer your organization.Implementing Lean is changing your Leadership style – you have to empower your people – ALL of them.
Lean can not be delegated.
Cutting budgets and hoping that LEAN will solve all will not work.Lean is not a cost cutting measure.
Until now I have showed you only no-goes.
But how to do it right?
Use Toyota or Bosch as a Best Practice example for good and sustainable Lean Management Systems.
Get your Lean specialists trained in these principles – but please don´t copy.
Your Lean must fit to your organization.
For those of you, who have started already:
Do you have the feeling something is missing in your Lean Organization?
You have started a lot of lean-tools – but the big picture is not clear?
Let´s have a closer look into it:
- you are focusing on the customers needs
You have started the change-process and
- you are starving for excellence.
All 8 LEAN Principles are in place – but something does not fit – something is missing.
Who do you gonna call – not ghost busters, but WE as PSD can help and support you.
For Pull and Continuous Improvements you will get additional information's in our market places.
Does Lean has a value of it´s own ?
NO!
Don´t do Lean, because it´s nice to have
Our wellknown mobility concepts will change.
Emission reduction and city bans lead to more electromobilty.
We will see new mobility concepts, like automated driving, sharing services and fleets,
New productws for last mile arise: eScooter, Drones, …
Last week we have been visiting Shenzhen in China and could see some of this already in live.
Let´s have a closer look into China, which is already the by far biggest car manufacturer of the world.
If we concentrate on the PC, we see a reduction of 4,1% against PY.
Share of EV is already at 6%.
High uncertainty and volatility are getting the new normal.
Sales 2018 is lower than 2016 volume, which was boosted by government program.
Do we have a better situation in Germany?
No, we don´t – you can see the same volatity and decrease in volume.
On the last year supplier day Mr. Ettle was showing this slide already.
For me this is a good overview of our expectations towards you:
Declining market, high invest into new mobility solutions is giving a hugh pressure on cost.
From the OEM´s to us, and from our buyers to you.
Lean tools like VSM / VSD, SW and CIP helps you to keep that competitive cost position.
Bosch stands for Quality
Lean tools like Q-VSM, daily Shopfloormeeting or 5S can support on operational excellence.
Again we are talking about changing environment what we have seen in the previous slides.
Implementing a Pull / consumption controlled production system let you only produce what the costumers need.
More details you will get in our Pull-Marketplace
A second topic to increase flexibility is your Investment strategy.
Smaller, flexible lines can help you to reduce invest. Lean Tools LLD, TPM and QCO are supporting the best utilization rate of your Invest.
New technologies need other competencies.
Life long learning is not only theory – it is reality. Our System-CIP concept can support you keeping the focus on your future.
Last but not least the new hype: Digitalization or I4.0
Why is it so important to start right now: PWC has estimated an additional 18% increase in efficiency over 5years thru digitalization.
In our Connected Industry Marketplace we will show you how easy you can connect you machines to increase transparency of your processes, speed and last but not least: Efficiency.
Let`s have a look into that picture again:
I was talking about
VSM / VSD – for me one of most powerful LEAN tools
Standardized Work
Q-VSM, 5S and Shopfloormanagement
Pull-System
QCO, TPM, LLD
System CIP
Isn´t that motivation enough going for a Lean Production System?
But let me give you another motivation
I guess you all have seen this picture already:
It shows our new Supplier Evaluation System DSC.
It very simple focusses on your performance only.
Only the Best Performer, where you all belong to, will get future business.
But will it be enough being only under the best performer, or do you want to get to the TOP.
One of my messages you know already: LEAN can support going to the TOP
BUT we can offer you something in addition: US
Talk to your buyer – let us be the missing puzzle piece to your success.
Some like it the rational way:
LEAN is supporting 80% of your improvement potentials towards Bosch.
Don´t waste time – let´s get started.
In my previous slides I was talking about the importance of Digitalization.
Our recommandation is to have a Lean Production System implemented before you start with I4.0.
Why
When collecting data, you must be shure that these data is correct. How can you steer a process with wrong information.
In the picture you see a classical plant with a running Pull-Levelling System with a centralized MES-System.
Customer and Sub-Suppliers are connected already.
Connectivity can be made out of an easy solution which is not touching your machine environment at all,
Or can get connected to PLC, extra sensors, etc.
More deatils you will get from our Connected Industry Expert
get excited
Thank you very much for listening. For those who have not started yet: Start now your LEAN journey
For those who have started already: continue, don´t reduce the effort.
Let´s have a great and bride future together – we as PSD have the right experts to support you!
The aim of lean thinking is to create a lean enterprise, one that sustains growth by aligning customer satisfaction with employee satisfaction, and that offers innovative products or services profitably while minimizing unnecessary over-costs to customers, suppliers and the environment. The basic insight of lean thinking is that if you train every person to identify wasted time and effort in their own job and to better work together to improve processes by eliminating such waste, the resulting enterprise will deliver more value at less expense while developing every employee's confidence, competence and ability to work with others.
The idea of lean thinking gained popularity in the business world and has evolved in two different directions:
1.Lean thinking converts who keep seeking to understand how to seek dynamic gains rather than static efficiencies. For this group of thinkers, lean thinking continuously evolves as they seek to better understand the possibilities of the way opened up by Toyota and have grasped the fact that the aim of continuous improvement is continuous improvement. Lean thinking as such is a movement of practitioners and writers who experiment and learn in different industries and conditions, to lean think any new activity.
2.Lean manufacturing adepts who have interpreted the term “lean” as a form of operational excellence and have turned to company programs aimed at taking costs out of processes. Lean activities are used to improve processes without ever challenging the underlying thinking, with powerful low-hanging fruit results but little hope of transforming the enterprise as a whole. This “corporate lean” approach is fundamentally opposed to the ideals of lean thinking, but has been taken up by a great number of large businesses seeking to cut their costs without challenging their fundamental management assumptions.
