• Higher price point
Percentage of consumers who would buy a fitness
band a certain price points
FINDINGS
• Corporate Wellness Programs
• Can increase employee health and happiness
• Reports show lower turnover rate after adopting corporate
wellness and wearables
• However, these programs should be optional
• Some employees react differently to wearables and some can
find tracking fitness information to increase anxiety[1], [2]
Key Points: Studies have shown wearables can increase
employee happiness and lower turnover rates
• Improves Employee
Efficiency [3]
• Employees wearing
wearables while on job are
more productive
• Implementing wearables
can also increases
employee satisfaction
FINDINGS CONT.
Key Points: Wearables can make employees more
efficient
FINDINGS CONT.
• Employee Benefits Ultimately Lead to Enterprise Benefits
• Employee wellness leads to lower insurance rates for
enterprises
• Happier employees leads to lower turnover and higher
productivity [1], [3]
• Increased employee efficiency leads to greater overall

• Multifactor Authentication systems in one of four ways
1.What you have
2.Presence factor or proximity factor
3.Biometrics
4.Proof of alternative knowledge [12]
TEST PLAN
• Example Tasks
• Typing a set of lines
• Watch an exciting
Youtube video
• Walk 20 feet
• Pickup and move a 20 lb
box across the room
• Why these tasks?
• Tasks were designed to
engage sensors that
were available on all
bands
PRELIMINARY RESULTS MATT VS JEFF
Key Points: Peaks and valleys do not overlap/stride length
PRELIMINARY RESULTS MATT VS MATT
Key Points: Peaks and valleys are very close. Distance
between strides are the same
SUMMARY
• Wearables can provide many benefits for the enterprise
• Lower turnover rate
• Save money on insurance
• Potential use as authentication mechanism
• Enterprise has intangible benefits too
• Increased employee efficiency
• Increased employee happiness
• Increased employee health
NEXT STEPS
1. Compile literature review article
2. Acquire bands for study/testing
3. Discover or create a way to export data from band
4. Conduct experiments based on test plan
5. Collect and document testing results

Editor's Notes

  1. Drew: Good afternoon, we are the wearables group and…..
  2. Drew: I’m Drew Radcliff, a junior in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology Jeff: I’m Jeff Chudik and I’m a first year masters student studying biometrics under Steve Zach Ganz: I’m Zach Ganz and my major is Industrial Technology and Distribution, with a minor in Biometrics
  3. Jeff: Read the hypothesis, first. Explain that the three sub-points are different things that we needed to understand to better support the hypothesis statement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2Js9k6FEQg  (Web view)
  4. Matt: Initially say, "Here are the challenges." Talk about how wearables are relatively new and that there are still a lot of unknown factors that contribute to the challenge of introducing wearables to the market. These factors could limit or enhance success.
  5. Thomas: Recent studies have shown that wearables have both increased employee happiness and health (reference a source to support this statement). Do the same for turnover rate and for recommending that these programs should be optional. http://media.proquest.com/media/pq/classic/doc/3786567111/fmt/pi/rep/NONE?hl=&cit%3Aauth=Everett%2C+Cath&cit%3Atitle=Can+wearable+technology+boost+corporate+wellbeing%3F&cit%3Apub=Occupational+Health&cit%3Avol=67&cit%3Aiss=8&cit%3Apg=12&cit%3Adate=Aug+2015&ic=true&cit%3Aprod=ABI%2FINFORM+Complete&_a=ChgyMDE2MDMzMTE2NTYxMDQ4Nzo0NDQ2NzkSBTk4NzIzGgpPTkVfU0VBUkNIIg0xMjguNDYuODYuMTI4KgU0OTE0OTIKMTcwNjM2NDM2NDoNRG9jdW1lbnRJbWFnZUIBMFIGT25saW5lWgJGVGIDUEZUagoyMDE1LzA4LzAxcgoyMDE1LzA4LzMxegCCASlQLTEwMDAwMDEtNDA0OTYtQ1VTVE9NRVItMTAwMDAwMDgtMTA1OTcwMpIBBk9ubGluZcoBSU1vemlsbGEvNS4wIChXaW5kb3dzIE5UIDEwLjA7IFdPVzY0OyBydjo0NC4wKSBHZWNrby8yMDEwMDEwMSBGaXJlZm94LzQ0LjDSARJTY2hvbGFybHkgSm91cm5hbHOaAgdQcmVQYWlkqgIoT1M6RU1TLVBkZkRvY1ZpZXdCYXNlLWdldE1lZGlhVXJsRm9ySXRlbcoCD0FydGljbGV8RmVhdHVyZdICAVniAgDyAgA%3D&_s=JUfLjyV%2BxTiHbF1qn9BDhjE5%2B7M%3D http://www.corporatewellnessmagazine.com/case-study/case-studies-lam-research-royal-caribbean-cruses-ltd-and-western-reserve-hospital/ Increased employee efficiency: http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/245458    http://www.rackspace.co.uk/sites/default/files/Human%20Cloud%20at%20Work.pdf http://www.bostoncommons.net/can-wearable-tech-improve-employee-productivity/ http://www.businesstoday.in/opinion/columns/smart-wearables-help-boost-employee-productivity/story/221972.html
  6. Drew: Elaborate on these points and cite multiple reports for the first bullet to really validate it. You should only need to cite one reference for the second bullet point
  7. Ganz: Talk about how enterprises benefit directly from their employees being benefited. Emphasize how greater employee efficiency means that enterprises are getting greater returns from their investments from their employees. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/plan/my-disney-experience/bands-cards/ http://allears.net/tp/magic-bands.htm http://www.cio.com/article/2378126/infrastructure/how-the-container-store-uses-wearable-tech-to-think-outside-the-box.html http://www.theatro.com/sites/default/files/Product%20Files/datasheet_wearablecomputerforretail-2.pdf http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/stockholm-office-workers-epicenter-implanted-microchips-pay-their-lunch-1486045 http://www.computerworld.com/article/2881178/office-complex-implants-rfid-chips-in-employees-hands.html
  8. Thomas: We found that wearables have already been accepted in many different enterprise environments for a wide variety of applications. Disney for example uses RFID wearables to keep track of purchases, payments, and for access control at their theme parks. Epicenter, a Sweedish company, has started to implant RFID chips in their employees as an authentication method. These chips use RFID technology and are bound to the user before chipping occurs. Theatro makes a Wi-Fi enabled “walkie talkie” type device that The Container Store has adopted these Theatro-made devices in order to increase efficiency and security in their stores.
  9. Drew Wearables can function as a what-you-have factor, and likely to be with the user by being a part of their typical routine. Wearables are strongly attached to the users which allows for a more accurate representation of presence. Emerging technologies such as PPG, ECG, Gait can be used on wearables allowing for passive authentication methods. The chart below shows how a PPG sensor can be used to create and ECG and measure R-R interval (or time between R waves in an ECG). Additional proof can be used such as gestures and behavioral biometrics.  Gait: Gait has been proven as a biometric using a variety of wearable sensors [10] Phone, belt clip, and smartwatch [10] [11] Heart Rate: Electrocardiogram, Photoplethysmogram, [8][ 9] and RR interval [9] used as biometric http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=6707790 http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%2220150074797%22.PGNR.&OS=DN/20150074797&RS=DN/20150074797 http://www.igi-global.com/chapter/content/75097 http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=7358794 http://industryeducation-public.sharepoint.com/SiteAssets/authenticate-once-and-be-done-user-centric-authentication-through-rich-device-capabilities/Authenticate%20Once%20and%20Be%20Done-%20User-Centric%20Authentication%20through%20Rich%20Device%20Capabilities.pdf
  10. Matthew: Don't actually read the test plan outloud. Instead talk about how we have formulated a test plan and that the results should enhance
  11. Jeff: This line graph shows the results from one of our first tests comparing Matt and I from a gait perspective. The graph shows that the two of us have massive variation between the two of our walking styles. His peaks are my valleys and vice versa. In addition to that the time interval it takes matt to walk 20 feet is much longer than the time interval it took me. This graph is intended to show that the data indicates there is a difference between Matt and I
  12. Jeff: This visualization shows two different examples of Matt walking 20 feet. Take a look at the valleys and peaks, they line up almost perfectly. The second test does vary a little bit more than the first in terms of the height of each peak and valley but they pattern is the same as well as the stride length, which is the distance between the start of each swing in the positive and negative directions. This graph is intended to show the similarities between Matt’s first attempt and second.
  13. Ganz: Walk through each of these points. Then stress why these findings show that wearables will have a significant impact in the enterprise if they are properly introduced into the enterprise ecosystem.
  14. Thomas: Quickly walk through each of these steps. Then conclude by talking about why internships would help. They would help by: Allowing us to complete our research earlier so we can progress in further research sooner rather than later. By completing this research, it allows us to have a foundational knowledge to be able to refference whether we do more research on Intel wearables, study the potential economic benefits of wearables, etc.
