29. Case Study #1: Managing Flammable Volumes at a
Pharmaceutical Company
• A growing pharmaceutical company in Cambridge, MA was faced with increasing workers and
haz mat levels, while having to reduce flammable volumes in the laboratories
• EHS was tasked with reducing the flammable volumes stored throughout the labs
• Through an audit, it was found that there were close to 400 gallons of flammable waste stored in
SAAs throughout the labs
• Triumvirate was asked to design a solution to this problem

• A large New England university received a notice of non-compliance from the
state environmental regulatory agency for open containers at the point of
generation
• The university was collecting waste from lab scale HPLC units in various
types of waste containers
• The waste lines were fed into open containers

collection system for all HPLC machines
