WEST TEXAS A&M
TIPOFF
#8 West Texas A&M will look to win their eight game of the season on
Saturday, Nov. 24, when they host Central Oklahoma as part of the Pak-A-Sak
Thanksgiving Classic at the First United Bank Center. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
A LOOK BACK AT COLORADO STATE-PUEBLO
With the game tied at 19-all with nine minutes remaining in the first half, WT went
on a 29-8 run to bust the game wide open en route to winning 105-71. It marked
the second game this season the Buffs had eclipsed the 100-point plateau and
first since defeating Adams State 112-87 two weeks ago.
It was the bench that did most of the damage for the 8th ranked Buffs as they
scored 68 points including a career-high 15 for Derrick Geddis. The freshman
from Houston, Texas put on a show as he had three dunks, two of those off
drives that brought the nearly 1,000 fans to their feet, while also connecting his
first three pointer of his young career. Drew Evans was equally impressive with 11
points while Joel Murray reached double figures for the fourth straight game.
For the game, WT shot 40-of-89 (68.0%) from the floor, 17-of-34 (50.0%) from
beyond the arc and 8-of-12 (66.7%) from the free throw line. They also had 28
rebound to go along with 20 assists, seven steals and five blocks.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
West Texas A&M continues to shoot the ball well from beyond the arc as they are
now 43-of-105 (40.9%) at home this season. After a rough start from three point
range where they made 26 long balls in their first four games, WT has made no
less than 12 in the past four contests.
Death, Taxes and WT winning basketball games at home under Tom Brown. The
fifth-year head coach has a tremendous track record at the FUB going 60-8 not
having lost more than two games in Canyon since the 2015-16. His team has now
won 12 straight after winning 29 straight from 2015-17.
Brandon Hall is starting to look more comfortable in a WT uniform which only
means bad news for opposing defenses. The Emporia State transfer had
arguable his best game of the season with eight points, five assists and a steal
against CSU-Pueblo. He has now made three of his last four from beyond the arc
after opening the season 2-of-20.
Ryan Quaid pulled down two rebounds in 18 minutes of work against the
ThunderWolves giving him 784 for his career. He is seven rebounds short of
breaking Reggie Ramsey’s record for most career rebounds.
The Price is White! Sterling White continues to shoot the ball well from deep as
the sophomore was 2-of-4 from three en route to eight points in Friday victory.
He also made both of his free throws as the Happy, Texas native has now made
at least one from beyond the arc in three of his four appearances this season.
A LOOK AT THE RANKINGS
West Texas A&M remained in the Top-10 in NABC and D2SIDA National Top-25
that were released on Tuesday afternoon. The 6-1 Buffs dropped four spots to
eighth in the NABC rankings after their early season loss to Western State while
they remained seventh in the D2SIDA Poll right behind Valdosta State.

LAST TIME OUT
WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN
Fifth-year head coach Tom Brown won his 100th game at the helm of WT
basketball in Saturday’s 112-87 win over Adams State in Alamosa, Colo. It took
him 136 to reach the plateau making him the fastest coach to eclipse the 100
win mark. The 2017-18 Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year has the fifth-best
winning percentage in program history at 74.1%.
BUFFS ADD FIRST TWO PIECES TO 2019-20 RECRUTING CLASS
West Texas A&M inked two players during the early signing with head coach Tom
Brown announcing the additions of Jake Gerber and Zach Toussaint to this year’s
recruiting class.
Gerber, a 6-foot-3 guard from Nazareth will be a four-year letterwinner at Nazareth
High School where he has earned all-state honors three times. During his junior,
season he led the Swifts to a runner-up finish at the UIL State Tournament while
also being named the Amarillo Globe News 1A Player of the Year. Toussaint, a
6-foot guard from Johnsburg, Ill., is an elite scorer as his 1,461 career points in
two seasons are 100 points away from breaking the Johnsburg High School
scoring record. During his junior season, he averaged 22.8 points per game while
shooting 36.0% from three and 82.0% from the charity stripe.

Tom Brown was hired on April 16, 2014, as the 17th head
coach in West Texas A&M men’s basketball history. He is 95-36
in his four years at WT following the 26-9 season in 2016-17.
Not only have the Buffs excelled on the court in Brown’s
three years at WT, but also in the classroom as the team has
set new team standards for the program recording the highest
grade-point average in men’s basketball program history each
of the years he has been at WT.
WT had a banner year in 2017-18 winning the Lone Star
Conference Regular Season, Tournament and South Central
Regional Championship en route to the NCAA Elite Eight where
they lost to eventual National Champion, Ferris State. The Buffs
finshed 32-4 overall in a season that saw David Chavlovich
break the LSC record for most points scored in a career.
In his third season at WT, Brown guided the Buffs to their
first Sweet Sixteen since 1997-98 and the 26 wins by the Buffs
were the most since the 1997-98 season, which saw WT reach
the Elite Eight. WT won 25 NCAA Division II games in 2016-17,
marking the most Division II wins in a season and the 26 overall
wins ties for fourth-most in program history. Brown has guided
the Buffs to three-straight winning seasons and back-to-back
20-plus win seasons.
Brown inherited a WT program coming off a 10-17 campaign
in 2013-14 taking three seniors and a walk on, while recording
one of the best turnarounds in NCAA Division II in 2014-15,
going 17-12 and 7-7 in Lone Star Conference play after the Buffs
won just two league games the season before. Brown guided
the team to a fifth-place league finish in his inaugural campaign.
Senior Miles Gatewood earned honorable mention all-confer-
ence honors, senior Tez Dumars surpassed Maurice Cheeks in
career scoring finishing fourth all-time in points scored, while
senior Antjuan Ball was honored on the LSC All-Defensive
Team. Freshman and Brown’s recruit, David Chavlovich, began
his storied career leading the team in scoring, earning second
team all-conference honors and LSC Freshman of the Year
accolades, averaging 16.5 points to go along with 93 assists
and 30 steals.
In his second season, Brown and the Buffs continued their
upward ascent both regionally and nationally in 2015-16. Brown
guided the Buffs to a 21-10 season, marking the team’s first 20-
plus win season since 2010-11. WT finished second in the Lone
Star Conference, marking the highest finish for the program
since the LSC moved away from divisions. Chavlovich earned
NABC All-America honors, named LSC Player of the Year hon-
ors and sophomore Jordan Evans received honorable mention
all-league honors in his first playing season.
This past season, Brown guided the team to the 26-9 record
with six wins over ranked teams as the Buffs were ranked as
high as 11th nationally during the season. WT won two NCAA
South Central Region Tournament games for the first time since
1997-98, reaching the postseason for the first time since 2011-12
and making the program’s 14th overall appearance. Chavlovich
earned first team all-conference honors for the third-straight
year, while Evans earned second team honors, senior Eric
Golightly, Jr., and sophomore Ryan Quaid were named to the
LSC All-Academic Team. Under Brown’s guidance, Chavlovich
became the program’s all-time leading scorer for the Buffs
with 1,762 career points as he surpassed former Buff Martin
Lattibeaudiere (1993-97) with 1,566 points.
Prior to West Texas A&M, Brown was the Associate Head
Coach and recruiting coordinator at NCAA Division II power
Winona State University in Winona, Min. While at Winona State,
Brown helped lead the Warriors to the NCAA Division II National
Championship in 2006 and 2008 and finished as a national
finalist in 2007. During that time, Winona State posted an
unprecedented 105-6 record.

consecutive wins, a run that began on Jan. 13, 2006, and didn’t
end until the national title game on Mar. 24, 2007. The 2007-08
Warrior squad won a NCAA record 38 games with Brown on
the sidelines.

Tournament titles (2001, 06, 07, 08, 11). The 1999 conference
title was the first for Winona State in 24 years.
An excellent recruiter and teacher, Brown had a hand in
developing some of the best players in the nation with three
National Player of the Year recipients, along with six first
team All-America honorees and 10 players total have earned
All-America status. He has helped coach five NSIC Most
Valuable Players, seven NSIC Defensive Players of the Year, two
Elite Eight Most Valuable Players and three National Players of
the Year.
In addition to on the court success, the Warriors were very
strong in the classroom as the men’s basketball team had
a grade-point average of 3.0 or better each semester since
Fall 2011, with a graduation rate 35% higher than the national
average.
Brown attended and played basketball at Winona State
from 1988-1992. He finished his Warrior career ranked fifth in
program history in scoring, second in assists and first in steals.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1993 in physical education
