Social Media RoundupIntroduction Setting up an Army social media site for your organization is only the first step. Once you’ve built the site, cleared it with your command and developed a social media plan, you have to register that site with the Army. The Army’s Social Media Directory includes links to thousands of official Army social media sites on Above is a screenshot of the new Army Social Media Directory Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, (http://www.army.mil/media/socialmedia/.) The new directory makes it much easier for Army social media managers to submit social media sites. Each Social Media Directory entry has an icon for each social media site they maintain making it easier to search for all of the social media presences of a specific Army organization.
Social Media RoundupRegulation Registering organization social media sites through the social media directory is not just encouraged, it is required. According to Directive-Type Memorandum (DTM) 09-026 – Responsible and effective use of internet-based capabilities, official online presences must “be registered on the external official presences list, maintained by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs (ASD(PA)), on www.Defense.gov. Once your social media site is reviewed, approved and registered on the Army’s Social Media Directory, your organization will be in compliance with DTM 09-026.

Social Media RoundupDirectory layout Search box: The search box allows users to find the organization they’re looking for quickly without scrolling through thousands of submissions. The dropdown box below the search box allows users to focus on the various categories in the directory. Those categories include Active Units, Installations, Family Matters, National Guard, Army Reserve, Joint and Other.Organization listing: Organizations in the directory are Social media icons: The social media icons nextlisted in alphabetical order in each specific category. to each Army organization provide a direct link to the organization’s specific social media site.
Social Media RoundupSubmission process Once you’ve reviewed the Standardizing official U.S. Army external official presences (social media) SOP (http://goo.gl/dSqG9) and your social media site meets all of the requirements, use the upper right side of the Social Media Directory to submit your link. Once you submit your link, the Online and Social Media Division will review the submission to make sure it follows the SOP and has all the elements required of Army social media sites.After organizations submit social media Once Facebook sites are approved, they will belinks through the directory, the socialmedia manager included as the contact added to the directory and the URL will be sent towill be added to the Online and SocialMedia’s distribution list.
