Social sustainability includes aspects such as
satisfaction of basic needs (livability), equal
opportunities, human rights, labor rights, social
responsibility, community development.

About 800 million people go hungry.
About 21,000 people die every day of hunger/hunger-related causes
• Child abuse -40 million children below the age of 15 suffer from abuse.
• Child labor -246 million children, one in every six children aged 5 to 17,
are involved in child labor.
• Human trafficking
Approximately 27 million people are currently enslaved in the
human trafficking trade around the world.
Every year 0.6 to 0.8 million persons are trafficked across
international borders.
