This document provides tips and best practices for using images in surveys within the UserZoom platform. It discusses uploading images to the multimedia center and directly into questions. Images can be inserted within question text, as thumbnails, in tabs, and in answers. Examples are given for different question types like ranking, selection, and commenting. Best practices include testing surveys from a participant view, using PNGs, and labeling images clearly. The webinar recording and example studies are available as additional resources.

6. Images are commonly used to show participants certain website areas, compare two
designs (A/B testing) and gather feedback on static prototype pages. Images can be
uploaded into questions in different ways:
1. Within the question text
2. As Thumbnails
3. In Tabs
4. In Answers
Using Images in a Survey
Overview
7. The available image formats that can be uploaded into UserZoom study are:
1. PNG - file ending in .png - e.g., screen shots.
2. JPG (also known as JPEG) file ending in .jpg - images that have been compressed to store lots of
information in a small size file.
3. GIF file ending in .gif - some can be animated image as well.
Image Format Options
Note: Do not upload a TIF image to UserZoom because a TIF is typically a very large file size
TIF image (also known as TIFF) file ending in .tif
8. Using Images in a Survey - 2 Ways
● Within the question text
● In the answer
● As Thumbnails
● In Tabs
The Editor Ribbon
The MultiMedia Center
9. Multimedia Center
● Use the Multimedia Center section to upload all of the images of your project. You can
reuse the already uploaded images, upload new ones and even take screenshots of
webpages.
● The Multimedia Center is located in the Settings.
● Once images are uploaded to the Multimedia Center, they can be added to any
question within your study.
Note: The width of the images should not be larger than 900px (for a 1024px width
study) or 700px (for a 800px width study). You cannot change the image size within
UserZoom with this upload option.
10. Edit Ribbon
● You can also add images to questions directly using the edit ribbon on questions.
● When you go to upload the images, you can choose from your Multimedia Center or
from your desktop.
● You can also just drag and drop or paste images right into the text field on a question.
Note: This way of adding images allows you to resize the image in UserZoom. Just
double click on the image once uploaded and you can edit the size.

23. Let’s say you’re building a Mobile only survey, you wanted to test the
effectiveness of an image.
You inserted the image into a ‘Text Only Question’ and ‘Open Ended Comment
Box’ and you didn’t like the way the image appeared to participants on their
mobile devices.
What is the alternative?
Static Images - Mobile study
24. Static Images - Mobile study
The alternative is to use the Timeout Screenshot Question without
setting a time limit.
Benefit: This provides flexibility in resizing the image and ensure
better presentation on a mobile device.
Study Name: IMAGE TESTING - MOBILE ONLY
Study ID: C5212S297
27. Best Practices
● Save images as PNGs, upload them into the study’s Multi Media and give each image a label that helps you easily differentiate the
images.
● Preview the study as a Participant while building the study to spot check as you go.
● Test the study as a live participant, using the invitation link. Pro Tip: Create a segment for “internal only” to use for colleagues to test.
● Test! And then test again before going live with a study.
