The Young Statisticians Group of the French Society of Statistics (SFdS) and the AIMS Center (African Institute
for Mathematical Sciences) Senegal of M’bour warmly invited African PhD students and PhDs to the inaugural
Summer School of Statistics and Data Science in M’bour, Senegal during the first week of July.
The program brought together young researchers from Francophone Africa around a scientific event on statistics
and data science—areas of very promising, yet challenging research, including the challenges of analyzing,
managing and processing large volumes of data.
Data science and statistics are now unavoidable, so exchanging with young researchers in the region around
innovative research is vital. Three courses in statistics and data science were illustrated by expert researchers
highlighting concrete applications in line with the socio-economic challenges of the continent, such as health,
agriculture and the environment. Participating young researchers were also invited to share their research to
foster an environment of friendly exchange between young statisticians, as well as a place of collaboration
between African and French researchers.
As a presenting participant, Senegal Flying Labs shared with the audience the importance of data and its related
ramifications to AI and Statistics.
Senegal Flying Labs Shares Its Experience During the First Summer School in
Statistics & Data Science for Young Researchers in Francophone Africa
Senegal Flying Labs organized training with the Limamoulaye High School on 13th of September. We had 14
participants (with 2 teachers and 6 girls).
The participating students were from the Science and Environment club and some of them do programming and
algorithms. Training consisted of the introduction of drones and discussion on how Senegal Flying Labs can help
and support them. We decided to support these students in their data analysis projects. Participants were satisfied
and we plan on organizing another program with this high school.

Xamal Drone School- Senegal
Flying Labs organizes an education
program every 2 weeks for students
and especially for girls to guide them
towards the STEM profession and for
students to accompany them in their
projects. And this time, Xamal Drone
School was held on September 25 for
Flying Labs Day. Professionals and
young entrepreneurs, teachers were
invited to this event. There were 36
participants in addition to members of
Flying Labs.
Senegal Flying Labs team had a
meeting with the Delegation Générale
d'Entrepreneriat Rapide on the 17th
of September. We were invited to
meet them via Linkedin. This
organization finances young
entrepreneurs to carry out their
projects in the new technologies
sector. Senegal Flying Labs will work
to support these young people in the
realization of their projects and for the
moment, we are preparing a proposal
for this project.

Le Groupe des Jeunes Statisticiens de la Société Française de Statistique (SFdS) et le Centre AIMS (Institut Africain
des Sciences Mathématiques) Sénégal de M'bour ont chaleureusement invité les doctorants et doctorants africains à
la première Université d'été de la statistique et des sciences des données à M'bour, Sénégal durant la première
semaine de juillet.
Le programme a réuni de jeunes chercheurs de l'Afrique francophone autour d'un événement scientifique sur les
statistiques et la science des données - des domaines de recherche très prometteurs mais stimulants, y compris les
défis de l'analyse, de la gestion et du traitement de grands volumes de données.
La science des données et les statistiques sont aujourd'hui incontournables, c'est pourquoi il est vital d'échanger
avec les jeunes chercheurs de la région autour de la recherche innovante. Trois cours de statistique et de science
des données ont été illustrés par des chercheurs experts qui ont mis l'accent sur des applications concrètes en
rapport avec les défis socio-économiques du continent, tels que la santé, l'agriculture et l'environnement. Les jeunes
chercheurs participants ont également été invités à partager leurs recherches afin de favoriser un environnement
d'échange amical entre jeunes statisticiens, ainsi qu'un lieu de collaboration entre chercheurs africains et français.
En tant que participant présentateur, Senegal Flying Labs a fait part à l'auditoire de l'importance des données et de
leurs ramifications pour l'IA et les statistiques.

L'Ecole de Drone Xamal - Sénégal
Flying Labs organise toutes les deux
semaines un programme d'éducation
pour les élèves et surtout pour les
filles afin de les guider vers la
profession STEM et pour les
accompagner dans leurs projets. Et
cette fois, l'école de drones Xamal a
eu lieu le 25 septembre pour la
journée des laboratoires volants.
Professionnels et jeunes
entrepreneurs, les enseignants ont
été invités à cet événement. Il y avait

de Flying Labs.
L'équipe de Senegal Flying Labs a eu
une réunion avec la Délégation
